Chapter 6.1 - The enforcer Unit – part 1.1

The same woman on the left side of the room spoke. “You seem to know a great deal about Lisa and the Werewolf Organization…”

And you are wondering how I know all this? The family that lost their baby daughter hired me, and I went after the perpetrators, thinking that they could be Werewolves that were trying to cause problems between Werewolves and normal Humans, and during that mission, I found the same evidence they did. I delivered everything to the Werewolf Organization, and guess what? They did nothing because it was more advantageous to their propaganda if Lisa and Davis kept on being seen as villains. Unfortunately for the Organization, I am not dumb, and I sent copies to several newspapers and internet news websites. They wanted to accuse me of working against the Werewolf Organization, but they gave up that idea because it would damage their reputation. As you can see, things are never as they seem, and you, being an Enforcer, should refrain from making assumptions, especially when there is so much proof that refutes your stupid accusations.”

The woman frowned and spoke with a surprised look, “Now I remember you… You work as a Bounty Hunter, tracking not only Werewolves but also Humans that have committed crimes against Werewolves! You are also Aniya Rossi and Nick Kerrish’s daughter! Why did you choose to become an Enforcer, if, as you said, we only kill Werewolves? We also arrest them, you know?”

My reasons are none of your business, lady, but I guess I can at least say that I like to understand both sides of this conflict. You should try something similar someday. I was once a member of the Rossi Pack, but I disagreed with them several times. I also met and spoke with Davis and Lisa, and we share different opinions on many aspects. Now, I want to know more about the Enforcer Unit. Unlike you, I think before making judgments, and I know things might change one day, and you all might become part of the military when a full-out war starts between normal Humans and Werewolves. The Werewolf Organization has been trying to prevent that over these past years, but instead of improving, things are becoming worse, mostly because of their stupidity, with them always worried about what normal Humans think or say about us.”

As Allen Brooks clapped his hands to call for attention, he announced, “Regarding this subject, and because it is appropriate after Miss Aurora’s point of view, we received this morning a video from Lisa McCarty. It is different from the usual videos that she normally sends to television channels, so watch it in silence and attentively.”

He then grabbed the remote of the huge screen behind him, and Lisa’s freckled face and red hair appeared, seated next to Davis, her always serious husband. She spoke, and everyone in the room heard her words, which were a clear announcement of danger to come. “Hello, Enforcers. Some of you may not know this, but I am still, up to this day, the highest authority in your Unit, and the reason the Enforcer Unit exists. I lost my rank when I clashed with the Rossi Pack and left, and my different ideas and points of view annoyed the Werewolf Organization so much that they labelled me as ‘persona non grata’. This message is a warning for you all because even after what the Organization tried to do to make you all hate me, the Enforcer Unit is still my most valuable accomplishment. Things have been changing all over the World over the past few years, and one day you may receive weird orders. Still, I wish to remind you of the vow you all took when you joined, and remind you of the guidelines: track down and arrest any criminal Werewolf, not kill on the spot; do not close one eye on anyone, including the Werewolf Organization members or any Werewolf that is a politician, police officer, or armed forces member, if they commit a criminal act.”

Aella clenched her fists over the table. Aurora heard her heart rhythm accelerating, and she whispered, “Calm down, Aella. Your light, remember?”

She forced herself to calm down, to prevent her light from appearing, and she looked at the screen again, concentrating on Lisa’s voice. “No Werewolf or Human is above the law, or they shouldn’t be; any Werewolf caught killing or eating a Human should be arrested by any means necessary and brought to a Luna or an Alpha that will deal with them. These are the base guidelines that were at the origin of the Enforcers Unit. They were twisted over the years because of the pressure that many governments in the World imposed on the Werewolf Organization, but the guidelines are still in the original records if any of you wish to confirm. Many, many thousands of years ago, Neanderthals and Homo-sapiens lived at the same time in this World. They mingled, had children, and originated a new species. Then, nature took another leap forward, and Werewolves appeared. Like then, Humans and Werewolves now live at the same time and have children together. A new species is appearing. Conscious and talking Werewolves that can change at will between each form. This can make Humanity evolve once again or extinguish everyone if a war erupts. Think very well before killing a Werewolf, because you could be killing an innocent person who can’t control their beast side yet. That, in my book, is also a crime and, according to the twisted changes in the Enforcers’ guidelines, could make another Enforcer kill you on the spot. As you can see, twisting the guidelines that took me so many weeks to devise is a very dangerous thing to do.”

Then Lisa made a slight smile and said, “Aella ‘whirlwind’ Harlow, take care of Aurora. I know about your famous stubbornness and bad temper, but you are only alive because I made it possible. You owe me that. When Allen Brooks brought you to the Enforcers, I was the one to give you a chance, instead of ordering your immediate execution, like Aniya Rossi wanted to do. She hates Hunters with all her strength, and you, a Werewolf daughter of Hunters who was being trained in secret to become one, was sentenced to death. Davis and I were against it. You were the last drop that made us both leave the Rossi Pack. Aurora, my sweet, take care of Aella. You two will for sure be recognised in the future as a powerful force if you support each other against anyone that tries to hurt any Werewolf. Think for yourselves and follow the Enforcer Unit's original guidelines. Not the twisted versions, because those are a shame. By the way, the next time any of you meet Aniya, punch her for me, will you? And remember her that she still owes me a dinner, that spoiled and forgetful brat!”

The screen went black, and Aella was huffing. Aurora raised one eyebrow and said, “So that is why you hate my mother so much…”

Aella punched the table hard and shouted, “She and all the other Lunas out there were the reason my parents died! She is a stupid, crazy bitch that shouldn’t have been born, and…”

Slap!

Aella touched her cheek that Aurora slapped and saw her grabbing her collar and shaking her. “You will never, but never again, badmouth my mother! Never! Your parents were Hunters who for sure killed dozens of Werewolves! You lost your family? Big deal! What about all the families that your psychopathic parents destroyed? Hunters had that coming! For millennia, they killed Werewolves, even entire communities living in peace! Little children, babies, old people, pregnant women with their babies still in their wombs! You were the reason that Lisa and my mother almost killed each other in their last fight when my mother wanted to kill you and Lisa defended you! You are only alive because the last Werewolf that was trained by Hunters to kill other Werewolves was Lisa’s and my mother’s friend, and she died while trying to kill my mother during a Hunter’s mission when my mother was infiltrated in the Hunters! Lisa found out about you, and she didn’t want to see another Werewolf that was brainwashed by Hunters, dying! But the next time that I hear you badmouthing my mother, I will rub the floor with your stupid butt!”

Aella grabbed Aurora’s wrists and squeezed them, trying to force her to let go. “You are no match for me, blondie! I have trained since I learned how to walk to fight Werewolves!”

Try me, dumbass! I have learned how to fight since I started to walk as well, but my mother taught me how to fight as a Human. At sixteen, my father started to train me how to fight as a Werewolf. You are ashamed of your Werewolf side, meaning that you have no idea how to fight like one! You would try to punch me, and my Werewolf mouth would be wide open, ready to tear your fist apart! Do not push your luck with me, Aella! It won’t end well for you! And shut off this light, moron! Are you fucking nuts? How many times do I need to tell you this?”

Aella jolted because it was only then that she noticed she was shining like a small sun, with her light completely out of control. Slowly, she forced herself to calm down, and her light diminished.

Aurora let her go and looked around at the surprised group of Enforcers, and said, “Do I need to warn you all that this is not to be spread outside these walls? What Aella can do is not to be discussed, not even between any of you or your families. If word gets out, things won’t go well for the Enforcers, because even the Werewolf Organization would make a big fuss to know why no one told them. Not to mention, several governments! Things are already weird enough, with no need for the public to find out that she can do this.”

Allen Brooks stuttered, “A-Aella… S-since when can you do that?”

The frowning brunette spoke while staring at the serious blonde in front of her, “Since I met her last night. This never happened before.”

That means… She is your partner, and the bond triggered your light to appear?”

Aella took a deep breath, already completely lost in the blue of Aurora’s eyes, and answered, “Yes… it seems so… But… I don’t understand... Why the big deal… Last time we met, she said a few things, but I don’t get why all the fuss about this...”

Allen Brooks gulped and said, “You don’t know? That means you are an Alpha or a Luna, and you can both start a new Pack, recognised by the Werewolf Organization! It also grants you and her a seat there and two votes in any decision! I am feeling dizzy... This is huge, so, so huge… And to think that you were almost executed…”

He went to the chair at his desk on the right side of the big screen and wondered, “Maybe it is better if you never leave each other’s side… A normal Human can see your light if you lose control again, and he might tell a group of dumb normal Humans, and they will try to kill you to prevent another Pack of Werewolves from appearing. Not to mention a group of stupid Werewolves that see both of you as their leaders and want to join you and bring with them all their craziness. Shit! Aurora is right! You can’t let this leak! Even the Organization will be all over us because of this! But… At the same time, it will be a problem if one or both of you die during a mission!”

Aurora shrugged while fixing Aella’s collar, receiving a slap on her hand to let her go, and she answered, “I will not let all those possibilities rule my life. If I wanted to be controlled all the time, I would still be living with my mother. I know very well that I am her weakness, and a criminal group might try to kidnap me to force her to do what they say. Well, if I wouldn’t kill every single one of those bastards that tried to put one hand on me, that is. Even with that possibility, I still chose to work as a Bounty Hunter, and so far, no one has gone after me. For all purposes, I am Aella Kerrish, so I would appreciate it if no one here ever mentioned who my mother is. Or do I have to use my Luna influence on all of you to force you to obey me?”

They all slowly shook their heads, and Allen Brooks sighed, “I told you, Aurora, we have a hierarchy here. But... Minutes ago, you told me you didn’t know if you were an Alpha or a Luna. Now you know?”

I am not sure, but Aella seems to boil in little water, and she acts before thinking, like some Alphas I know. Apparently, I am the one that is more level-headed in this relationship, making me a Luna.”

Aella crossed her arms over her chest and grumped, “Who told you that we have any sort of relationship? Not me, for sure!”

Aurora was about to say something, but her phone, which was inside her purse, made a beeping sound, announcing a message. She took her phone out, looked at the screen, and asked, “Mister Brooks, has the briefing ended? Because Aella and I have to go somewhere.”
