A Surprise Help

"Keep running away Max, until you have no place to run to!" A boy yelled by the corner of the school library, followed by a burst of laughter.

Max didn't stop despite the warning from the boy, rather, he kept running towards a more desolate place. He knew running there would make things more tricky but at this time, it was the only option.

Max, after running around for a while, got to a certain point and stopped. "I'm fucking doomed, this time!" he almost yelled out as he stared at the large tall wall before him in self-pity.

"No place to run to?" The boy taunted with a smirk on his lips. He began to approach Max in light steps, making every step he takes look like forever when actually he couldn't wait to tear the boy apart.

"What were you thinking before now? That I'll go down on my knees and begin to beg you? You are nothing but a fucker! A solidified jerk!" Max screamed at the top of his lungs.

Seeing the rage forming on the boy's face, Max could not help but smile in satisfaction. "If I am to die today, I'll happily do that knowing full well that I have given you a piece of my own," he said aloud to the hearing of the ranging boy, followed by a giggle.

Max could not take it anymore at this point. Ever since he became ten years of age, his life had abruptly taken a turnaround. Like other kids in the entire world, he was supposed to awaken an ability but his stars were cursed.

Even after ten years, he had nothing to show of himself as a kid. His parents had no other choice but to dump him at the school with the hope that he'll find favour in the sight of the heavens or remain in the school till of course, his death.

Day to day he was ridiculed by the teachers and staff members of the school, seen and treated like scum by the students. Not a day passes without him being bullied by one kid or the other, in fact, it was now a daily routine for him to be beaten and battered by other kids.

Today was one of them but surprisingly he felt a strong urge to fight back, an urge to curse the living daylight out of this kid and successfully he did it.

"How dare you stinky brat insult me!" The boy roared angrily as he began to take heavy steps toward Max.

He brought his hands together and a ball of purple energy began to form between them. When he was only a few meters away from Max, the boy hurled the purple energy forward and a purple light shot out of his palms.

Max had nowhere to go, he was trapped. He could only stand and watch the ball of light come right at him at an unseeable speed. As the light hit him on the chest, he was raised in the air and was immediately sent flying to another side of the wall.

"What is happening?" A student asked his friends after hearing the loud bang at the back of the school library.

"You should go find out yourself and not us, we were here all together when the sound was heard," one of his friends replied.

"I'll go check it," the boy said and began to walk in the direction of the sound.

Upon getting to the place, the dust had settled but the victim was still lying on the ground, covered in dust and sand and not moving at all.

"Is he sleeping or what?" The boy asked and shook his shoulders. After staring at the non-moving person for some time, he clicked his tongue three times while shaking his head in pity and then walked away to go meet his friends.

"Did you see anyone?" One of the boy's friends asked as he saw him coming.

"The school's punching bag of course," the boy replied and they all laughed and left the place.

'Is this how am going to die?' Max asked inwardly as limped to the one-room apartment that was given to him by his parents as the only asset he has in life. He got to the door and opened it, he turned around and looked at all the faces of the students that followed him up to his room.

They didn't follow him because they felt pity for him but because they loved seeing him in that state. Just staring at his red swollen eyes, the students could not help but jeer at him. He looked like someone who had been beaten up by a giant.

With one last stare at them all, Max went into his room and slammed the door shut.

He fell to the floor and coughed out a mouthful of blood before calming down. His mind wandered to how the boy dealt with him at the back of the school library, not once, not twice was the ball of light shot at him. It was countless, the boy wanted so much to kill him if not for the intervention of the phone call he received.

He removed his bloody thorn shirt and stared down at his chest, he could see a deep cut there. It wasn't one nor two, it was three deep cuts, starting from his neck side to the breast side, the second one was right on his stomach while the third one crossed the first cut making it look like an X sign. These cuts he got when he kept falling on the broken glasses of the window.

"I can't hold it any longer," he muttered in pain as he held his chest. He began to remove the sands that had filled inside the cuts, making them bleed all over again. Blood was rushing out, staining the entire place. Life was gradually sipping out from him, but he never thought of his parents. He didn't want them to be in his memory as he breathes his last.

He finally closed his eyes and laid flat on the ground, just when he thought he was finally going to have rest, a binding light engulfed him, sealing all the wounds like it was never there. He felt an immense surge of energy enter into him and his eyes sprang open.

He felt someone's presence in the room and when he tilted his head, he was shocked to see who it is.

"Are you ready to receive my blessing?"

"Take it, even if you don't like it, you have no other choice."

<<D....>>

Just before he could get the information, he lost consciousness.
