The Gifts of Duality

...

"The title dual pioneer allows you to gain an extra class. It will bourgeon your dual mind skill. The higher the level you reach, the more times you will be able to split your mind. The dual mind skill, will double every five levels. "

"Please state the parameters of your second class. This class must differ from your first class choice to avoid a class between abilities. You do not have a time limit due to your title as a pioneer."

"Hahaha!" Will laughed aloud.

His face contorted in hysteria and a tinge of insanity.

"If this is a dream, I never want to wake up!" Will thought to himself in excitement.

"Wait-"

Will knew that he needed to focus. He still didn't know what exactly was happening, but he knew that it was important and that he needed to focus.

"Water Meister –Humph!"

He scoffed at the thought of this class. It sounded weak, and nothing like a class that dealt with martial arts. Will was a bit irritated by this, but he was pleased with his title of Dual Pioneer. He chose his class and was awarded a title, now he had time to think. He sat cross-legged in the middle of the sidewalk.

Will thought "Hmm, something that has to do with swords –and Dao."

The Dao was still a confusing concept for Will. From what will understood about Daoism, it was about becoming one with nature, etcetera. He still had much to learn about Daoism. As a result of all of his research about eastern religions, mysticism, and Warcraft, Will created his own Dao, his own philosophical path to walk through life. He did mention the Dao when he was choosing his parameters. However, he could not fully elaborate on what he wanted, because of the time limit. Will couldn't ask for a class that had Dao in it. A Dao is something personal that each individual walks.

"Sigh –"

"I can't just ask for a Dao... So, I will ask for a class that will improve my mind and body! I just need to include the art of the sword." Will thought.

The title of Water Meister was important, because water is one of the five elements that are fundamental in Daoism. But, he now needed to think of a way to combine this power over water with the use of a sword. It took some time for Will to organize his thoughts once again. Then, he stood up and said,

"For my second class, I want a class that uses Mana and Qi. Qi must be the primary effector and Mana the second. The class must improve my physical and mental ability with the way of the sword; and it must increase my insights into whichever Dao I pursue.

The class should have some immunity to blade attacks and place a restriction on any being using a blade against me. This must increase as I grow in knowledge and wisdom in the way of the sword. The class should grant me knowledge on blade techniques. I want the class to have the strongest Mana and Qi development and refinement possible, specializing in the way of the sword. This must be compatible with my physique and improve my physical ability especially agility and endurance.

All that I have said must be passive and have the ability to grow with my level."

"Parameters accepted. Please wait. Due to the specific requirements stated, the system will take time to find a class that meets the parameters."

"It worked?" Will thought.

"I thought that it might not, because I was excessive. I don't even know if the system has anything to do with Daoism or something similar. I hope I didn't waste my time!"

"Agh!" He exclaimed.

"What do I do if it just gives me something random –Then what?"

Will could only wait and worry about what was to happen next. He immediately began to regret what he said and thought about what he should have said instead. He became so anxious that he started to bite his nails.

Somewhere in a small, simple, dark room, a middle aged man meditating on a prayer mat. He wore plain black robes, but nothing in particular stood out about him. He was not much to take notice of. It was almost as if he were a part of the room, and that it was empty. Suddenly, the door slid open and a woman ran in shouting.

"Lord Modus! Please forgive my intrusion, but there is an urgent matter regarding the system!" The woman said as she bowed.

The man opened his eyes to reveal their dark brown color and cast his gaze towards the woman. There was a hint of amusement on his face.

"Adelda, I told you before, you don't have to bow every time you see me. I don't like that sort of thing." Said Modus and signaled her to rise.

She rose, but then fell to her knees. Annoyed at this, Modus said again,

"I told you, I don't like that sort of thing!"

Adela looked into his eyes with reverence and worship beaming from her expression. Modus' expression melted from annoyance to helplessness.

"Sigh, anyway, I know that you wouldn't disturb me for something trivial. What is so urgent?"

"Yes Sir, Firstly, a lower planet has been added to the system."

"Oh my, that is indeed quite rare." Modus said as he raised his eyebrows in surprise.

"I am unable to access the system to ascertain the reason why. I came to consult with you Lord Modus."

"Hmm. Let me see."

Modus closed his left eye and began to move his left hand from left to right. He could see things that Adelda couldn't. His expression changed many times. Finally, he opened his eye and threw a rock to Adela. The rock appeared out of nowhere, but Adela caught the rock and ignored its sudden appearance as though she knew it would happen.

"Inside that, you will find an explanation as to why earth was deemed worthy to become a part of the system. Now –I hope the other reason is important enough to disturb my meditation, otherwise, I will be angry." Modus toyed with Adelda in a playful tone, but she knew that he was very serious.

Adelda swallowed and said, "Sir, normally I would have approached another system administrator with this issue –However, before you left for your meditation, you told me that I must only disturb you if an interesting user appears. I believe I have found one."

Modus grinned like a child, yet somewhat sarcastically. "Oh? What did they do? This they gain a rare ability, or level up quickly? Perhaps they unified an upper world? If it's any of these, I will be somewhat disappointed."

"Sir, I assure you, they did something far more interesting and rare. Please look at the user called Peerless Dao Master on Earth. He is a boy of 16, in the city of Cardiff."

Modus grew suspicious of the anticipation on Adelda's face. He closed his left eye and waved his left hand abut again.

"Hmm, His beginner stats are normal. His class is –oh –Water Meister? It is rare are indeed. That is a Duos Class with much potential that is usually wasted. Gaining a Duos Class in the beginning is interesting, but I don't see why you are acting so smug about this."

"Sir, look at his second list of parameters."

"Second parameters? That means that he intentionally chose a Duos Class. He must be smart –interesting. Keep an eye on him Adelda. If –"

"Sir I apologize for interrupting, but you are missing the point! Please look at the parameters he has requested for his second class."

Modus was irritated that he was cut off in the middle of his sentence. No one would dare interrupt him. However, he decided to see what this woman was being so persistent about.

"Sigh –Fine, let me see –WHAT?"

In surprise and amazement, Modus stood up gawking at what he was reading. As soon as he finished reading, he started to pace back and forth in the small room, mumbling to himself. He stopped, and then grinned devilishly at his thoughts.

"Adelda, I assume no one else knows about this?"

Adelda nodded fiercely.

"Good! I will take full control of the conquest system in this world; I will also take charge of this boy and his class. You will be promoted three ranks and from now on, you will work directly under me, and no one else. "

"Th ... th... three ranks?"Adelda stuttered out her words in bafflement.

She was so thrilled, her body shook. She was just a minor system controller. She had just been promoted three ranks, because of the discovery she made. It could take centuries to be promoted just to a sub rank! She immediately expressed her gratitude and handed the control of Earth's system to Modus before being told to leave the small room.

In his dark room, Modus grinned as he sat down. His eyes lit up with excitement.

"A Dao of the sword. Huh, he didn't ask for power, but understanding. If I do this right, this boy may change everything. Ha! Let's see –he needs some sword Qi –Stances –Flexibility. It seems that Adelda forgot to check this boy's history. It's a good thing I didn't, hehe. What a frightening –"

Modus' voice trailed off while he closed one eye and started waving about using both of his hands this time. His hands moved so fast that they were blurs.

After a half an hour of waiting, Will finally heard the sound he was waiting for.

"Ding!Congratulations, you have been awarded the class –"
