Chapter 03

Damon's [P.O.V]

Ding!

The alarm rings as I rush up from my bed rubbing my hand through my hair as Esther's photo glass frame falls from my hand onto the floor.

The glass broke into pieces and even tore her photo in the frame into two, making me really shocked.

Was that a sign?

Like a bad Omen?

I bent down picking it up as I stared at my beautiful daughter's torn photo for a while before I heard the door alarm ring again... I dropped her picture over a desk close to the door as I hurried downstairs.

I opened the door and it's Lilian.

She uses her hand to push me into the house as she walks in, seated over one of the parlour's chairs.

"Hello Damon... Here are the divorce papers, please go ahead and sign it." She says dropping the document over the table for me to sign.

It was even too early for me to be get a divorce agreement this fast but nevertheless, I wanted one thing alone and that was for her to get cash from her family since they wanted me gone as soon as possible then it shouldn't be a big deal to them to at-least save their grandchild's life.

"Lilian, I hope our agreement remains the same and that you will either get cash or borrow from your family to pay off for Esther's brain tumour surgery today?" I stated to her like it was a question.

"I accept Damon, our child's life too is important." She said back to me and I signed the divorce.

"Here's your copy." She says giving me a document as she carried the rest about leaving.

I could sense this betrayal from her every move but I did not want to believe that she could let her own daughter die now that I can't pay for it.

"Oh wait... And you will have to leave this house too. It belongs to my family and I don't think they will want any rat in it, so take care." She says with a smile.

"What?" I was shocked.

"Yeah I know... And that's not all, I won't be helping you get any money from my family too... Because she isn't just my daughter bruh, be the man you have always been, aren't you a man? Oh... too bad that you're a poor man, hahaha " She says, mocking me before she leaves the house.

I kept silent before I heard her car engine start and soon she had driven away from the compound.

I was so heart broken to even speak.

So a man isn't a man, Unless he is rich.

She's responsible for me being this broke and she had the guts to back out from helping to save our dying child's life.

I could not believe being broke or poor will ever make Linda despise me so much.

I fell on my knees over the parlour floor.

I was breaking... I never wanted to be this broken.

My phone rings from inside my pocket and I picked the strange call from a strange number.

"Hello, Is this Damon Nicholas Monroe." The exact voice of my fathers housekeeper said from the phone.

I wanted to cut the call because he had always bothered me about coming to inherit my fathers wealth, to be sincere... I know my father could do and do and was very powerful and dangerous in his wealthy state at the time he was still alive but I don't want any part of living like him.

He changed after my eldest brother's death.

So I gave a close eye to ever returning home to inherit my fathers wealth.

"Please Damon, don't cut the call this time... I heard about your daughters health and how critical it is, this is something that can be paid for in less than a second, the hospital and even the streets around it can be bought too if only you return home to inherit and head your fathers wealth and business." He said over the phone as I listened to him.

"My fathers wealth?" I responded.

"Yes." He states.

"After all he put me through?" I replied to him.

"Damon, you have to put the past behind you, your father is no more and he entitled all his wealth and assets to you... you need to understand." He explains to me like it was nothing at all.

"He trained me like a killing machine, and did all his best to turn me into a cold hearted wicked monster like he was and that's the name you want me to uphold?" I said back to him and he kept silent.

"Damon, he still really loved you and asked me to tell you to forgive him because all he ever did was so that you will be strong enough to face his enemies and keep the name of the family strong." He says back.

"Housekeeper, thanks but I have to decline your offer to help me out with my daughter at the hospital." I said back to him about cutting the call.

"Wait Damon, just in case you consider changing your mind, you can always call this number and I will answer you whenever you are ready." He said back to me and I annoyed myself to the core.

"I said I don't want anything to do with his wealth!" I said back in anger.

"Your father is the richest man in the world... Damon, you must not let him down." He replies.

"Richest man in the world? How?" I asked back.

"Well over the years that you left, your father discovered a land full of crude oil, he was the only one rich enough to utilise the oil resource in that region and monopolised the resources which catapulted his wealth in a million times and he was given the merit after evaluation from government agencies later on as the richest man in the world." He says and my jaw drops down in shock.

"Wow!" I said surprised.

"And that makes me a..." I said before the housekeeper finished the sentence.

"A divorced sextillionaire... Yes... I also know everything that happens in your life and has been watching you for years according to your fathers wishes." He replies to me and I let out a smile.

So my dad still had an atom of care for me.

"Enough! I won't be lured by wealth, I have survived without it for so long but we can bet on this that I will be able to get help from my wife for our daughter's health." I said to him,

"And if you are unable to get this money from her family, what will you then do?" He asked me.

"Then you would win the bet and I will work according to my fathers wishes." I said to him in return.

"A bet it is then." He replies to me who breathes out as I end the call feeling a bit relieved but worried.

They still had to find a way out of this mess.
