…… Five hours later Mandi finally came and didn’t bother to apologize to him.

He saw hickeys on her neck, it was very obvious and she didn’t intend to hide them.

Alaric felt like throwing up after seeing those marks. He said nothing because he would only receive insult if he were to question her.

… At the Hans mansion…..

“ Alaric why is the clothes not washed?”

“ The washing machine is not working.”

“So what if the washing machine is not working, can’t you wash them with your bare hands. Can’t you make use of your useless hands, you have twenty minutes to wash these clothes. 

This was a conversation between Alaric and Sharon.

Sharon who is Alaric's mother  in-law went upstairs but stopped halfway and said,

“tomorrow is my mother’s birthday, don’t disgrace the family and if you can, don’t step foot at the party, after all, the invited guests wouldn’t want to associate with a commoner like you.” She said mockingly.

At the birthday party,  many people presented their gift. Even though it was a third tier wealthy family, their gift were worth hundreds of thousands, the old lady smile at the expensive gifts, she nodded in satisfaction. Mary  the first miss of the Hans daughter said mockingly to Alaric,

“Alaric  won’t you give the old lady a birthday present”. All the people turn to him, some were looking at him with pity, others were looking at him in disdain. They were whispering to each other. Who is this man and what is he to the Hans family . The guest started thinking who Alaric is.

Alaric who as if doesn’t know what’s happening gave grandmother a golden necklace, which he bought with his little savings. The people mocked him because the necklace was worth thousand dollars.

“Is this man too poor? Is that the only thing he can afford?. Aww how what a pity, such a cheap gift, why didn’t he donate the gift to the orphanage, how can he give a thing like this to the old lady?” They said all sort of hurtful words that could hurt ones pride.

When Alaric came to the Hans family, their name was unknown and they weren’t part of the wealthy families. It was him who gave them a name and a status. They treated him like trash after they became rich.

A group of people attracted the attention of the guest, they brought  big sculpture and expensive gifts, the gift was worth millions dollars.

The old lady beamed with  excitement, she asked them who brought it and they said it was the young master of Mills family. She was smart enough and knew it was not a free gift so she asked them the purpose of these gift.

They told them the young master wants to marry Mandi, the most beautiful woman in the city.

The old lady looked at Alaric with disdain and said, just take a look at your fellow mate ,look how rich he is ,all you could do is buy me a thousand dollars fake necklace.

Sometimes I wonder why my husband insisted my beautiful granddaughter should marry such an incompetent man like you”.

Minutes  later, another group also presented expensive gifts worth millions  of dollars. The old lady was very excited, she said to her this was birthday gift she has ever got. 

The time the gifts was from the Jason’s family.

They also came with the same purpose. 

 

The old lady said worriedly”, Oh no, two young masters want to marry my grand daughter but she is already married. I need to find a way to send that useless son away.”

She called one rich mistress and whispered into her ears.

The mistress went straight and threw the drink on Alaric, she raised a head arrogantly and said,

“If you have the power fight back and if you have the money sue me, I am ready. Aww I almost forget , what can a useless man like you do.”

The guest all burst in to laughter after seeing how pitiful  Alaric looks. He said nothing and left.

“Since my granddaughter's marriage has been kept a secret from the outsiders, I will never loose this golden opportunity.”

She told the  two groups to give her sometime .

Early morning , the old lady held a meeting, “ you all know what happened at the party, the Mills family and the Jason family want to marry Mandi. She faced Alaric and said you have to divorce Mandi as soon as possible.” 

“But what would I do if I divorce her, I am a loner on a foreign land, he asked with a painful expression.

“That is your problem you should find a way out, we don’t care whether you die or survive,” Sharon said harshly.

Alaric has always been a man of few words , he sat there expressionless with no emotion in his eyes. He wasn’t that surprised ,he knew sooner or later the family would abandoned him. He was a little sad because to the family he was only a disposable cup that can be thrown after been used.

“Mandy, what do you have to say ,do you agree with grandma.” He asked his wife.

“Yes I do , who would let go of such a golden opportunity, what will I gain if I am with you. You shouldn’t have asked such a silly question when you already know the answer.’’

He wasn’t bothered and asked her the second time. This time Mandy gave him a simple yes as an answer.

“Ok since you have already made up your mind am going to sign the divorce papers.” 

“Since you have signed the divorce papers, get out of this house and don’t take any thing with you, we bought everything for you, you can only live with your tattered rags” Sharon said fiercely.

"Aren't you going to give me back my shares?"

"You want your shares, have forgotten we took good care of you all this while, we bought you clothes and gave you a place to sleep? You should pay for these and we will give you shares."

Alaric stop asking for his share, he knew he will gain nothing. 

Alaric said nothing and was about to leave, one servant stopped him at the entrance and told him he has been instructed by the old to search him if he took has stolen from them.

" Do I look like a thief?"

"How will we know whether you a third or not,  people who are poor can do anything for money sake."

The servant has forgotten he is also poor.  If he wasn't poor why is he working as a servant or my readers don't agree with me. What do you think?
