REPENTANT

I finally reached my street and once again picked up the pace as I came closer to my home.

I ran towards the door but felt a rush of wind hit my face as i realised that Adrian was in my home.

"He threw his body at me and held me tight, I smelt sweat and bodily fluids on him as he pulled me closer.

The smell was off-putting, but i knew it was because he had been up all night worrying about me.

"What the fuck were you doing Serenity! You just left and couldn't even tell me where you were going? I thought you had been murdered the way you ignored my 50 calls!" He said in determination.

His grip slowly loosened as he began to slant his whole body towards the ground.

Tears began to form in my eyes as I thought about having to dissapear for good.

I looked from left to right at my home, coloured with a pale grey paint that had began peeling over the years.

I had set up a beautiful birdbath out the front as well, having the birds around always made home feel more welcoming.

So many feelings and emotions were flooding my brain as I realised I may lose it all.

"Something bad happened Addy. It's really bad," I pushed past him to get inside and i ran towards my bedroom with the plan of packing whatever I could.

I looked around my room, there were so many things I'd miss.

I had built a bedside table myself and grown two small pot plants next to my bed.

I began to stare at them, reminiscing about the day I planted them.

I looked to the other side of the room where my vanity dressing table was, still scattered with makeup and hair products.

All of these things, I may never see again.

I didnt want to think on it too much, as I had many things to do with what felt like so little time.

I grabbed a suitcase off the topshelf in my small-scale walk in cupboard and began shoving necessary clothes and shoes inside.

"Wait, what the fuck. What are you doing? You're scaring the shit out of me! Why are you packing?" Adrian stared at me with such desperation.

"They're coming for me. Im not safe anymore, I'm sorry Addy. I can't involve you in this anymore than I already have. I've got to go," I grabbed phone cords, socks, undies and some makeup products before shoving them in the suitcase and zipping it up.

The zipper caught on one of my thin garments and Adrian watched as I ripped the zipper through it.

I picked it up by the handle and began heading for the door.

"I don't understand Serenity, why do you have to leave? Please, just stay with me, I can keep you safe," as he spoke he guardedly walked towards me with one hand pinching his neck and the other reaching out for my bag.

He looked at me and started tearing up and looking for his keys.

He placed his hand on the handle and shook the bag lightly.

I pulled away from him and looked at him in distress.

"No, you can't come with me. It's better this way, please. Just trust me," with one hand on the door handle, I turned towards Adrian and glanced at him with sorrowful eyes.

He walked towards me and put his hands on my face, I felt sparks and it was almost like a fire was burning inside of me.

Our bodies pressed together as we stared into each other's eyes, I felt the sexual desire between us heighten in a way I could never have imagined.

He stared down at my lips, then back at me again.

I leaned in and felt his soft, desirable lips lean in and press against mine.

As our lips locked, we shared a passionate kiss before I pulled away in disbelief.

He removed his hands from my face and took a step back.

"I'll take you to your parents house so you can say goodbye. Just let me do this," he moved his hand from the handle of the bag to my hand, while softly pushing me to the side so he could open the door.

I took my hand off the door handle and backed out of his way as he almost stumbled towards the car.

I sauntered out behind him before jumping in the front seat of his car, all while admiring the exterior.

We both turned to each other, putting our most vulnerable side on display.

"We'll get through this, okay?" Adrian said.

I looked at him in despair, yet still managed to show a smile.

He started the car and pulled out of my rocky, rugged driveway before pulling onto the road and driving off.

"We'll figure it out, I promise. I'll find a way to contact you. who knows, I might be back in no time." I pushed my hair out of my eyes and looked over at Adrian who was fixated on my words, but couldn't help fiddling with his lips; twisting and turning them between his fingers while driving with the other hand.

"Someone's going to come get me and I'll be okay, I'll tell you everything soon," I turned towards Adrian and saw him staring profusely at the centre of the road.

Without turning his head, he quickly looked down at my hand before grabbing it with his.

We then sat in silence, still holding hands before momentarily arriving at my parents house.

Adrian parked across the street as I started staring in through their dining room window.

I could faintly see my mother through her Venetian blinds that were left ajar.

"Just stay here, I won't be long," I said, before untangling our fingers and opening the door.

I closed it behind me before I walked towards their front door.

Once i reached the veranda i turned to the right to see tassel ferns in hanging pots above my head.

I looked back at their white, double-glazed door.

I stared intently at the doorbell before ringing it twice like i always had done.

I stood there in fear, wondering how i could ever explain everything to them.
