The Betrayal

David's face was face to face with the toes of the shiny shoes that Jack was wearing.

"Come on. What are you waiting for? You didn't change your mind, did you? Don't waste my time."

'For your wife, David.' So, finally, David kissed the toe of Jack's pointy shoe. Then immediately stood up straight after that.

"I've done it," said David.

Jack nodded his head. "Haha, yes I know. You are so easy to belittle. This!" This time, David slapped the money on his right cheek.

“Tips for a loser like you. Now take all the scattered money and all your equipment and then immediately get out of here. I can't stand the smell of your stinky body. Hurry up!" Without many words, David took all the money. This is quite a lot of money. He can buy a lot of necessities to eat at home and a birthday cake to celebrate his wife's birthday. Surely his wife would be pleased. David was very excited. He couldn't wait to see his wife smile.

David carried a lot of plastic in his hands. Tonight, there will be a big and delicious meal. Don't forget the birthday cake that he bought especially for his wife Lily.

David quickened his pace. However, he stopped immediately when he saw a familiar figure.

"Lily?" That's Lily. What made his heart constrict was Lily's togetherness with Jack. His grip on the plastic bag he was holding tightened. "What are the two of them doing here?" His heart ached even more because Lily seemed to hold hands with Jack and they looked thrilled.

David followed them quietly. The two of them entered a restaurant. David also went inside. He received cynical stares from several people in the restaurant. This must all be because of his dirty and dull appearance, and the unpleasant odor that might waft from his body.

"Sir, is there anything we can help you with?" said one of the servers in an unpleasant tone. Look at his appearance from top to bottom.

"Sir, you didn't enter wrong, did you?" she asked again.

“I was following my wife,” David replied.

"She came in here earlier," he added.

"Your wife, sir?" she asked in an uncertain tone. How could a man who looks like himself possibly have a wife who could fit into a five-star restaurant like this?

"Yes. Earlier, she came in with a man," replied David. He turned his head to the right and to the left to find his wife. He could hear the whispers of the guests in this five-star restaurant. Some laughed at him.

"Perhaps you saw it wrong, sir?" asked the server.

"Not. Please let me look for her.” David was about to run to find his wife. But his hand was immediately caught.

"Just a moment, sir. Let's just talk outside. Looks like you really saw it wrong.” David's presence is considered very disturbing to the comfort around the restaurant.

"That! That's my wife!" David shouted so loud that all eyes turned to him. Including his wife and Jack. Lily looks surprised to see her husband, while Jack looks happy. He deliberately put his arm around Lily's hips. Jack's treatment very surprised Lily.

David ran to Lily. "David. It's not what you think it is."

"Come on, Lily. There's no need to feel guilty like that. It's your birthday, and you should be happy. I'm sure this poor man can't make you happy."

"Just look at how he looks now. He can only embarrass you. See people around. They're talking about your husband. Aren't you ashamed to have one like him?"

David was silent. He didn't know what to say at this point. What Jack said was true. He couldn't avoid it and it felt like it was useless. The whispers only grew louder. He was really humiliated. Insult after insult kept coming from Jack's lips. He didn't have a face anymore until his face was down.

"David, go home," Lily said at last. They looked at each other.

"You hear? Lily asked you to go home. Go. Don't spoil Lily's happy day."

"Sir, come on, I'll take you outside," said the server. The atmosphere is just getting excited by the second. This must end immediately. David had given up. His wife was right. He would only embarrass her. Maybe if he went and let Lily be happy for today with the luxury that Jack gave her, it would be the most beautiful gift.

David nodded his head. "Okay." David, with the crackle bag he was still holding tightly, was ready to leave. But suddenly a group of people entered. David turned his gaze to them. They were all dressed in black with neatly trimmed hair. Looks so masculine with a stocky body. After paying close attention, David was quite surprised because he knew who they were.

'Why are they here? How do they know I'm here? Have they been spying on me all this time?’

The atmosphere that was originally bustling became quiet for a moment when a group of men in black suits approached David.

"Who are they?" Jack asked Lily. Lily shook her head in disbelief.

"I don't know," she answered quietly in a whisper.

David watched one of them, then shook his head to give them a signal. But it seems that what he did earlier was ignored. They all simultaneously bowed their bodies then firmly in unison.

"BOSS!"

Making everyone who was their gape with a very obvious look of surprise.

'Oh, dammit!'

“What the heck? Boss?!” Jack is the most surprised by that.
