CHAPTER 1: He's A Loser

It was Sunshine Community Hospital.

Receiving the news that his wife got injured, James Miller rushed in worriedly.

In the ward, Ava Miller, who had a bandage around her forehead, was sitting on the bed, pale-faced.

"Ava, how are you doing? Are you alright?"

Looking at James, who was panting and worried about her, Ava pushed him away in annoyance. "I'm fine."

"And, take off your apron! It's embarrassing."

"Okay." James untied the apron on him with embarrassment. He smiled awkwardly and said, "I... I was so anxious to hear about your injury that I couldn't hear about anything else."

Ava was tall and curvy. Besides, she had an exquisite face, oval face. Her grandfather was the chairman of Bailey's group in Sunshine.

However, unexpectedly, she had fallen in love with James and married him quite soon, though she was the campus belle at the university back then.

Yet, life after their marriage was not easy.

James often ran into snags in his job, and his career was not going well. Now he was unemployed. As for Ava, she was not assigned any critical position in the Bailey's Group since she had gone against her grandfather's wishes and married the poor guy James.

She also ruined her relationships with her parents because of James.

Ava's mom had told James that she would never admit him as her son-in-law unless she was dead.

"Ava, what would you like to eat now? I'll..."

Before he could finish his sentence, James heard rapid footsteps from behind, which made him panic and his heart beat thumped faster.

"James Miller!"

He heard an angry yell.

Then, he felt a burning pain on his face. It was caused by a hard and loud slap.

Amelia Bailey, who was filled with much anger, said with tears in her eyes, "it's all because of you! You are just a loser! My daughter was bullied and she almost got herself in big trouble!"

Was she bullied, James raised his head and curiously looked at his wife on the hospital bed.

"Ava, what happened exactly?"

"Nothing. James, why don't you stay outside for a while?" Ava said with helplessness and disappointment, her head lowered.

"James, I guess Ava has to stay in the hospital for a few more days. You can to the receptionist to settle the bills, for now, Joseph Bailey, his father-in-law, said to him with a gentle tone.

"Humph!" Just as this time, Amelia sneered viciously and said mockingly, "Can he afford it? Does he have any money? He is just a kept man living off our daughter!"

"I...I will go pay for it now." James lowered his head in shame, not giving any explanation. He went to the cashier desk in the inpatient department.

After he passed his bank card, the nurse at the cashier's desk glanced at him coldly.

"There's no money in your card," she rolled her eyes and said ironically.

"Hold on a minute please?" James smiled awkwardly. Then he turned around and quickly call his good friend Henry Smith.

He turned on the speaker as the hospital hall was noisy.

"Hey Henry, my wife is admitted to the hospital. I'm a little short on cash right recently, can you..."

"No problem! I'll transfer you some money right away," Henry said kindly. However, a malicious sharp female voice came from the other end of the phone. It was Aria smith, Henry's wife.

"Henry, if you lend James one more cent, we are finished!" I'm telling you, he is just a loser living off his wife! There's no point being friends with him!"

All of a sudden, the entire hall fell silent. People around him all cast their strange and mocking gazes at James.

At that moment, he was like a child who had made some mistakes, wishing to run away.

"Excuse me," James humbly bent down and pleaded to the nurse, "May I ask if I can pay the fees later, in about two days?"

"No." As soon as he finished speaking, the nurse immediately refused. "If you can't afford it, just take her away. Or, go ask your wife for the money."

"I've seen lots of kept men like you. Go away. Don't waste your time here! I feel disgusted to see you."

Staring at James with a mocking gaze, the nurse waved her hand to chase James away.

This loser wanted to save his face, he deserved it!

"You!" James' face instantly darkened as he secretly tightened his fist.

Just as James turned around, he saw Allen Bailey, Ava's cousin, standing behind him with a disgusting sneer on his face.
