Chapter 7

A year later....

Nothing had been the same for Cheryl since the demise of her twin sister, she was a complete shadow of herself, it seemed her soul had gone to be with her sister, she barely eats, talks or even showers, her room is always in a mess, most times she dreams of her sister, she kept blaming herself for her death, maybe if she hadn't asked about her dad, just maybe her sister would be right here by her side. Mrs Roberts had tried all she could to reach her only surviving child but the more she tried, the more Cheryl withdrew herself from not just her, her husband too. Mr. Roberts own his part felt guilty too, maybe if he had called earlier and told his wife that the meeting they were supposed to attend was cancelled she would still be alive.

Certainly Kyle hasn't felt such satisfaction in a long time, it has been a year since the death of the serial killer and Los Angeles had returned to it's former glory, he couldn't be more proud of himself, he had taken other cases as well but the joy and fame he attained from her death was compared to none. He was promoted again after she was confirmed dead, but there was one person he wished to celebrate with.

Cheryl's POV

"Baby please come down for breakfast" my mom pleaded knocking on my door.

Taking a look at myself in the mirror, I felt the tears coming again, but no, I was done crying and mourning cherish, "she wants me to be happy, she wants me to have a life, she wants me to fall in love and enjoy what she couldn't" I muttered looking at the mirror. I had dreamt of her again and she told me all these, and of a truth, I did look skinnier and sick and ugly too like she said. I smiled remembering the cute smile she had on her face, maybe she's having fun wherever she is.

"Baby can you hear me" my mom said again knocking slowly on the door. I did feel bad about making her go through all these, I mean, it's really no one's fault, she lost a daughter too.

I walked to my door and twisted the doorknob, "morning mother" I greeted and she stood looking at me, not uttering a word.

"You look..."

"Yes, I showered" I replied cutting her off, " and I'm sorry" I said hugging mom and i heard her silent sobs, "come on mom" I said disengaging, "I said sorry already" I wiped her tears, "you're making feel like a bad daughter" and mom chuckled.

"Breakfast?" Mom asked.

"I could finish an elephant" I smiled.

"Morning dad" I smiled and pecked him, he was already through with breakfast and was about heading.

"I'm glad you're back" he pecked my forehead.

"I'm glad you weren't involved in the crash" I said.

"I'm glad too, have breakfast, I'd be back in the evening" he replied and pecked mom before leaving the house.

"You seem like you're heading out" mom said dishing my food.

"Yeah, I'll just take a walk around before coming to the boutique" I replied and mouthed a thank you before eating.

Kyle's POV

For the past one year, I have been searching for her, she must have heard the news, didn't she see us as friends to at least want to congratulate me. I kept going to the restaurant we first met but yet no sign of her, when I heard about the plane crash i was devastated thinking my dad was involved and i came to this very restaurant, sitting for hours, wishing she would step in so I could share my hurt with her but no, she didn't show up, I began to think she was a ghost, but I saw her twice.

I sighed standing from where I was seated and I looked around one last time and turned to leave the restaurant but bumped into someone at the door, "I'm sorry" I apologized holding her by the arms so she wouldn't fall.

"It's fine" the lady replied looking up and I couldn't believe my ears nor eyes.

"Cheryl" I muttered.

"Kyle?" She smiled melting my heart, "Kyle right?" She asked.

"Yes, thankfully you didn't forget my name this time" I said.

"Forget your name??" Cheryl asked.

"Yeah, you don't remember? It's been long though" I smiled.

"He must have met cherish" Cheryl thought, "you seem to be leaving already" she said.

"No... I mean..yeah.. kinda, but I don't mind, I missed your face and you do look lean and sick" I said and we sat down while she ordered.

"Congratulations though, you didn't tell me you're a cop" she said.

"Oh.. so you base here in LA" I chuckled.

"What" she laughed.

"So you heard, I was beginning to think I met a ghost" I smiled, "anyways now you know, happy 20 right?" I asked.

"Yeah.. happy 24" she said.

"Actually 23" I whispered, "let's say a fortune cookie predicted I'd be great at 23, I got greedy" I smirked and she actually laughed for the first time which sounded so melodiously.

"And it did come to pass huh?" She chimed.

"Yeah, so why haven't I seen you around" I asked as I watched her little lips move as she ate.

"Family issues" she said and I mouthed an OH.

SOMEWHERE IN LOS ANGELES:

"Feels so good to be back" she laughed.

"I thought I lost you" he smiled.

"I never die" she smirked and walked out with a cap covering her face.
