Inheritance. Episode 3.

Mason couldn’t believe it. Everything was beginning to look like what happens in those novels he usually reads.

Although he had so many questions he wanted to ask he kept quiet to watch the video record of his grandfather trying to get down everything he needed to know before bringing up his questions.

Mason stood there with his eyes fixed on the old man who was still talking on the screen.

He pinched himself once more to see if he was still dreaming but even after feeling pain from this action, he didn’t find himself waking up on any bed.

Robinson Gray, his grandfather kept on speaking. “Yes. You are now the master of the Jinni by your side and also the master of the entire fortunes under Gray’s family control. Although all these are probably enough to make you feel much more pride than before I have to tell you there are certain rules to things.”

“Those rules have to do a lot with the Jinni. Don’t worry the Jinni will explain the rules to you and for your good, it will be best to listen to her advice because not living by the principle of the Gray family that has controlled the entire world for a long time will lead to severe consequences and also I want you to know one thing...” Robinson Gray took a full minute pause before he spoke out again. “We have enemies. A lot of enemies and the quicker you claim your wife from the White family, the better it will be for you.”

Hearing what his Grandfather just said Mason frowned. Now he's lost. However, there was nothing he could do for now but to keep listening.

“Look I know you might not understand all that I’m saying right now but I can’t tell you everything about being a Gray through this video so the Jinni will assist you. She will tell you what you need to know when you need to know it but I will live you with this. I’m sorry neither I nor your parents are there to guide you through this but just know that I and your parents love you.”

“Fate had to be so cruel by separating you from us. I tried searching for you even after your parent's death and I never gave up till the very end because only I could tell that you were still alive, however, finding you was really hard and death caught me before I could so my only regret was not finding you before I died but I’m happy to know that you’re watching this video now…And also you’re now in safe hands. The Jinni will guide you from now on.”

The old man had a sad look in his eyes as he sighed and then finally said. “I have nothing to say to you anymore so I love you boy and take care of yourself.”

The video finally stopped which meant it was now finished.

Mason stood there in silence for a full minute before letting out a sigh.

He was still finding everything hard to digest. He dug his fingers deep into his skin again, thereby puncturing it and making it bleed.

“Would you stop that already?” The Jinni’s voice entered his ears, breaking him from his daze. “How many times do you need to injure yourself to tell that you’re not dreaming?”

Mason was shocked. This attitude of pinching himself was something he usually did whenever a good thing happened to him. He did it to be sure that he was not dreaming. It was a habit only he knew about so he couldn’t help but feel shocked that the Jinni here knows his reason for doing it.

However, the beautiful Jinni didn’t know whether she should laugh or cry. Even when Mason didn’t know it, she has been with him all his life. She has watched him from the shadows and seen him grow up as he experienced all his life troubles so in a way, she knows him more than he knows himself. It’s only today she decided to reveal herself to him as today is the day he turned 21. This was because of the promise she made to someone important. She promised to only show her presence to her next masters when they are 21 years of age.

However, Mason didn’t know all these and that was the least of his problems right now. If all these happening were real then he has so many questions to ask the Jinni. His grandfather said a lot of stuff that he didn’t quite get so he needed answers.

“What did my grandfather mean when he said the world is my enemy…and he said something about my wife? Just how am I married?”

The world is his enemy and his having a wife was what his grandfather said in the video record. Mason tried to think hard but no matter how hard he thought he didn’t seem to remember getting married to anybody so who was this wife of his that his grandfather talked about?

“Then there’s the part about the rules? What rules is the old man talking about?” Mason asked with eyes of curiosity

The Jinni saw the curiosity in Mason’s eyes and started explaining.

“Well as your grandfather said there are rules. Mostly regarding me. The first thing you have to have in mind is that you can’t make more than one wish a day and I have to find you worthy for you to keep using my powers or else you will never be granted the evolution of my powers. Anything you wish will be granted as far as you don’t wish anybody death.”

“Wishing for me to help you kill a person won’t work but I can aid you to do so if you make your wish correctly. That’s the rule to my powers.”

Mason didn’t know how to react but the way the Jinni just described how her powers worked isn’t the way it is in the general knowledge about Jinnis.

From what the Jinni just said he can only make one wish a day. This means even with more days to come he will always have one wish access every day.

If he wanted to make more than one wish a day he will have to wait till the next day. That was the restriction.

However, after learning about how his Jinni works Mason still had to hear about the part where the world is his enemy and about him having a wife.

The Jinni continued with her explanation. “As for the world being your enemies about that…it’s more like four other big families are your enemies.”

“Four big families?”

“Yes, four big families.” The Jinni continued with a smile. “Well I have not been in this world for a long time but I bounded myself to it through a treasure which is the ring you’re currently wearing, however, five persons found me as part of their treasure while mining and for fairness, they all decided to give it to one person among themselves. The power of the ring binding me to you was just too great for it to be in any wrong hands so after they all saw what it can do they all voted for a person that would have it among them and that was how the first owner of the ring you’re currently wearing was born.”

Hearing this it was then Mason instinctively rubbed the ring with his fingers as he continued listening to the Jinni.

“After selecting the first owner of the ring from among themselves they all made a deal that this person would use my powers for the sake of looking after himself and them. So my first master among these five men only used his powers to better himself and his family along with his other four friends and their families too. They all even made an agreement that my first master at that time should make sure that his children to come who inherits his role as my new masters will have to marry a child from the bloodline of one of the remaining four friends.”

“And it has to be from the bloodline of the person that had the second treasure they found that day.”

“Wait there’s still another treasure like this?” Mason asked curiously.

“Yes there is but you don’t need to know about it for now. What I’m saying is that those two friends among the five were elected to have these two treasures that day and they agreed to make their children who inherit their treasures marry each other until three centuries passes. After three centuries of prosperity due to their decision, the five families that came from the bloodline of the five men who found the treasures will come together and do this same vote again to choose which families will get to keep the two treasures among them. This was set up just in case the masters of these treasures end up not doing well with it”

“It was like this for a very long time until greed came along and split the five families and the ring on your fingers has been on the Gray family’s hands since then. The other families want that ring on your fingers and that is why your grandfather said you should now see the entire world as your enemy and I also advise you to do so. Even if the Gray family is currently the strongest family among the five families, those other families are also strong most especially the family with the second treasure.”

“Because of the feud between the five families the family with the second treasure wouldn’t hesitate to steal yours and make themselves the most powerful family in the world so be wary of them too even if that’s the family your wife is from.”

“My wife?” Mason asked with confused eyes.

“Yes, your wife.” It was then that Jinni smiled in a somewhat mischievous manner. “Mason, my boy you should know you’ve been married for a very long time now.”
