The Sound of Wolf

Gus's remarks sounded very serious. However, it wasn't apparent to Arthur. How not? His best friend seems to know what will happen later, behaving as if he doesn't know anything. Is it true that the wizard in the southern forest is more dangerous than Kaia?

"Tsk! She's just a wizard. It can't be more dangerous than a big snake," Arthur scorned with a hint of a chuckle.

"You don't remember? Who has turned you into an evil creature like this?" Gus replied with a stern look as he continued in his footsteps.

"Of course I remember. But ...."

"Never mind, Arthur. If what we are doing is very important to you, then never underestimate every process. Please, just keep those selfishness of yours tight, understand?" snapped Gus.

As we know, Gus was forced to help Arthur because he wanted to meet the kind that Arthur had met. Such ancient rabbits were quite tired of living a solitary life. Not because he was dissatisfied with the presence of his two best friends, Arthur and Volka, but because he was eager to meet the like before he became extinct. And he's also convinced that similar species are still out there even though they don't know where.

"But, what you're saying is nonsense," said Gus to Arthur.

"Nonsense? Which one?" Arthur replied to Gus's question casually while pinning off some of the insects he encountered in the trees.

Gus stopped in his footsteps. This, of course, confused Arthur with his best friend's attitude. Quickly, suddenly Gus walked up to Arthur and then jumped up and sat on the muscular shoulders of that Jotun monster. Gus brought his face to Arthur's ear. Then, with a sharp gaze, he seemed to be about to say something severe.

"Don't try to lie to me. If you do that, you know the consequences yourself," Gus hissed. Arthur was silent for a few seconds. At first, he didn't understand what the ancient rabbit meant. But then, hearing Gus's remarks that did not sound like a joke, he slowly began to understand.

"N-No. Of course not. What are you talking about, Gus?! There's no way I'm doing that to you! I guess there's something important until you threaten me like this," Arthur protested, dismissing Gus's remarks. He then walked straight regardless of Gus again.

"I'm not threatening you. I just wanted to warn you not to let me down," Gus replied.

"By the way, are we there yet? It feels like we've been walking for hours, but it hasn't gotten a bright spot. Is it true that this is the road to the southern forest, Gus?"

Arthur's question seemed to divert the conversation between the two. Even so, Arthur said right. Slowly the sky was getting dark, and there was no sign yet of them where the southern forest was.

"You doubt me? What I'm talking about, this is indeed the right way to the southern forest. Later, we will find a black gate marking the forest. That's what I'm talking about in a fairy tale you believe in. So, if it's all just fictitious and we don't find out the truth, it's your fault," Gus replied flatly.

"I don't doubt you. It's just, I feel...."

Wooo .. the wolf's roar sounded very clearly from a distance. Instantly Arthur's remarks stopped, making him stare at each other with Gus.

"You heard that? Isn't that a wolf roar?" whispered Arthur to Gus.

"yes, I heard it. We'd better go home soon, it could be a hint from Volka," Gus replied as he turned back.

"But, it could be that it's not a wolf coming from our forest. It could be, we heard it wrong," Arthur retorted.

"No, I'm sure the roar came from the Dark Forest."

"In that case, what about our plan? We've walked this far, and we're just coming back home?" asked Arthur again, ascertaining. He was hesitant to go home because his ambition to meet wizards was so strong.

"Don't say so much! Let's go home quickly! I'm afraid that something happened in the Dark forest!"

I couldn't help but nod in agreement to Gus's order. After all, his entire family was there. He had entrusted everything to Volka. However, if there is a wolf roar like just now, there is something wrong in the area where he lives.

The two dashed towards the Dark forest. While on the way, Kaia was still lying weakly, enduring pain because of Gus's actions. The giant snake was still in the same place when Arthur and Gus left it. Soon, the two also arrived in the Dark forest. Although the night has not yet come, the atmosphere of the forest seems to be different from others. The wind blew firmly, knocking down the fallen leaves.

"Volka!!" shouted Arthur. The Jotun's shout echoed throughout the forest as if it penetrated through the trunks of the surrounding pine trees.

"Volka! Where are you?!" exclaimed Gus. The two began to look worried at this time. Volka did not appear even though he had been yelled at several times.

They finally ran to Howa cave to ensure Arthur's family was okay. Full of worry, they ran over with a gasp. Arriving at the mouth of the cave, suddenly something shocked the two from behind.

"You guys are home?" exclaimed Volka.

"Gosh, Volka! Where have you been, you?! Gus and I called you earlier, but why you didn't show up?!" Arthur replied, surprised.

"I-I'm not going anywhere. I was looking at the situation on the border of the forest. Then, have you met the wizard? But, why is Arthur still unchanged?" asked Volka.

"We'd better not discuss that here. I'm afraid Rudolf came and heard our conversation," Gus added.

The three also turned their way towards where they used to gather. Arriving at the place, Arthur slammed his body to the ground and renewed his broad shoulders against the shady tree trunk.

"What's the matter? What happened?" asked Volka innocently. His face implied confusion.

"It should be; I'm the one who asked you. What happened in this forest? We heard a wolf roar from a distance. I'm sure it must have come from here," Gus explained. As Gus explained, Arthur was still silent without looking in any direction.

"Wolf? I didn't tell them to roar. Nothing happened here," Volka replied again.

"Are you sure? You're not kidding, are you? We've been all the way and back here worried about hearing a cue from you. We were even nearly devoured to death by a starving snake," Gus retorted.

"Wait, really? How weak are you to be almost devoured by a snake? Hahahah," Volka said.

"We're not kidding. Please answer, Volka. So, you didn't do it?" asked Gus again.

"I've said no, yes no. Besides, did you guys see the wolfs here? No, right. Then, why do you guys just keep talking to me with that question."

Without commenting, Arthur moved away from where he was sitting, leaving his two best friends arguing. Of course, it made Volka confused at Arthur's behavior. Gus didn't turn his head to Arthur in the slightest. He just lowered his head with a regretful look on his face.

"Hey, Arthur! Where are you going?" exclaimed Volka.

"I'm tired. I want to rest in the cave," Arthur replied from a distance without turning to Volka, the interlocutor.

Seeing such a situation, Volka was even more confused about Arthur's attitude. Not only with the Jotun, but he also didn't understand why Gus just kept silent when Arthur left.

"Gus, what's the matter? You guys have heard my answer. But, my question you haven't answered at all. What really happened? Why does Arthur look moody? Then, why now are you also behaving strangely? Ah, you guys are such confusing creatures!" grumbled Volka.

"It seems that he is angry with me...," Gus said coldly.

"Angry? Arthur you mean?" asked Volka again.

"Yes. When he first heard the wolf's roar earlier, he had already told me that it might not have come from here. But, I forced my way home because I was too worried about the Dark forest. And after you explain everything, the conjecture is correct. I don't know if this is true or not, obviously, he must have felt sad because he couldn't meet the witch in the southern forest," Gus said. He spoke with great confidence and full of regret.

"But, it's not necessarily true. Where is it possible that Arthur can be angry with you? Aren't you the one who gets angry with him the most?" retorted Volka, who tried to think positively.

Even though Volka had comforted him, Gus was pretty sure that Arthur was mad at him. For how not, becoming a human being and taking revenge on Gilda and Emmet is his most prominent dream. But unfortunately, they had already gone a long way, and the plan suddenly failed because of Gus's wrong conjecture.

Arriving at the cave, Arthur came over with a gloomy face. He didn't even go to his father to tell him that he had returned home. Moonlight again accompanied his reverie tonight. It seems that breaking the curse that has been torturing him so much is just a dream. He has done various ways to break the curse so that it disappears faster. However, all seemed to be in vain.

"Why should I be disappointed like this to Gus? Isn't it all break-even? It's just that he didn't know that in fact, I lied about the ancient rabbit species I met. But, still this is unfair! I'm halfway to the southern forest!" muttered Arthur.

"Arthur...."

Exclaimed a person whose voice was familiar to the monster's ears. Arthur turned his body and was surprised to see that someone was the father.

"You're home? Since when did you come? I didn't see your arrival," Rudolf said.

"I just came."

"Hmm, I heard you talk about the southern forest. What's there?" asked Rudolf curiously. That, of course, made Arthur shudder. How could the father hear his muttering that he could not possibly tell?

"Southern Forest? Ah, maybe you heard it wrong. I didn't say anything about it," Arthur said.

"Oh, yes. Maybe I heard it wrong. But, don't try to get there other than the Dark forest and the Howa mountain area."

"But, why?" Arthur became even more curious about the father's warning.

"It will endanger our family."
