Ben stood again before Nina and grasped his maul firmly. He needed to think of a way to counter Nina now that his opponents had noticed the gap between his skills and weapon. For the first time, he regretted not having proper training in some specific techniques, especially in hand-to-hand combat.

If he ever had proper training in hand-to-hand combat, then he could somehow use his skill to its full potential. However, even when he considered that possibility, he still needed a weapon to defend against Nina’s stealthy strike if she began using her skill. Now that he understood his situation and that sprinting back to the past to reform himself into a better fighter wasn't possible, he concentrated on the present to face Nina with whatever he had right now.
