Chapter - 3: The Adventurer guild

After taking my time staring at the door of the Adventurer guild, I opened it, and to tell the truth, I was overwhelmed by seeing a lot of new and fantasy-like things.

"Ha..... Wow, this is something new..." I thought after looking at all of those people in front of me.

They wore a variety of distinctive outfits and accessories - some of them had swords, others had bows and arrows, and some even had staffs on their backs. It looked like they were all dressed differently depending on what they were carrying. It felt like some kind of cosplay performance was going on.

Some of those people look scary, but some people look normal while some looked expensive..... I thought about that to myself, looking at a person who is bragging so loudly about his expensive equipment that even I can hear it, well whatever.

On my right side, people were trading their loot for money from the guild personnel and on my left side, there was a crowd gathering around a noticeboard on which I saw different kinds of stuff listed on paper and pasted on the board.

When I head straight, I see guild reception written on the signboard on the top of the table where some guild personnel was sitting, and then I see people asking them different things. Then I thought they might give me a job.

When I go to the guild reception, I meet a young lady, maybe about 23 to 25 years of age, with blond hair and cat ears and tail, plus she also has a cute face.

"Excuse me, sir, how may I help you?" The lady asked while I was admiring her beauty.

"Uh... yeah sorry I was just... Uh thinking about what your name is?" I replied as I blabbered about anything that came into my mind.

"Sorry, what?" She replied.

"No, I mean I want a job and I heard that I can get it from here?" I replied to divert her from the topic.

The lady looked at me with cold eyes and then, after some time

"Yeah, you can get one, but you have to register with our guild first."

"Oh... Is that so, then can you explain the process to me?" I replied as I tried to avoid her cold stare which stated *I am out of your league, go try on someone your age*.

" *sigh*… Well, if you want to register you should at least be 15 years old, and we need your ID as proof." She said while letting out a deep sigh.

"Yes, this is my ID and, as you can see, I am 15 years of age."

" OK, then, name: Dev Sharma, age: 15, married: single"

"So, is there anything else I need to know?"

"Yes, there is. I will now provide you with a temporary guild ID, which means, you are not our member yet. For you to become a permanent member, you have to complete 50 quests of G - rank."

"G - rank?"

"Yes, there is a ranking system in our guild which shows how capable you are, according to which ranks are divided as follows:

G - F - E - D - C - B - A - S"

"So I have to climb 7 ranks to become the most capable adventurer, huh? But 50 quests per rank, huh?"

"Let me complete my sentence, you damn brat." She said with an annoying look on her face.

"Do you think it is that easy and you only got 50 quests per rank, huh? The world is not that easy, many things decide your rank, but you don't need to know that right now." She continued.

"There are two more ranks above S, which are SS and SSS. These ranks are generally given to the hero of a nation or to someone capable of bringing a change. You can also say that if you reach A-rank your capability can also be compared to the royalty of our kingdom. The more your rank increases, the higher your rewards will become." She further elaborated.

"Well, I understand all of that, but why am I a temporary member and not permanent?" I replied.

"That is because you have to prove yourself that a brat like you is capable of your future tasks with the Adventurer guild or you can show us a letter of recommendation from a noble or a duke, but I doubt you have one of those."

" Is that necessary? How about I become a member if I am trustworthy?"

"Hah….. The only person you can trust in your adventure career is yourself and nobody else. And brats like you are the first casualty in a battle because of these trust issues." She replied with a sarcastic tone.

"Ok... I will keep that in mind," I replied.

"The Adventurer guild has to keep this in mind because all kinds of people register every year and the responsibility of handling brats such as you falls on the shoulders of our guild"

"So, if I clear all 50 requests can I become a permanent member?"

"It's not that simple. After clearing all 50 requests, you will be eligible for 3 months of adventure training, which costs 500 Pero per month, and if you have a knight training certificate, then you can skip the training and take the test."

"Knight training certificate? , Test?.... What are those?"

"Knight training is something which is only available to the children of a knight or a noble or you have to give a huge amount of money for the training."

"Guess I have to pay 500 pero per month for the 3-month training. And what is the test?"

"It is known as the rank-up exam. You have to take this test to become a permanent member."

"So can I just give the test without taking the 3 months' training?"

"No! You can't because the test is dangerous and we at least need some kind of proof that you are capable enough to face that much danger."

"So the test is dangerous?"

"Of course it is, but the test happens in front of our guild officers' supervision, so at the very least you may be able to come back alive, but we don't want to put others in danger because of you." She replied with an annoying look on her face.

"So, basically, if I have to get a higher income and permanent membership, I have to complete 50 requests, then do 3 months of training and then pass a test based on that training"

"Yes, you are right, that is about everything."

"One last thing mam, can you tell me how the currency of this kingdom works, Umm.. the thing is, I come from a faraway place and I don't know anything about this place."

"Fine, whatever, the name of the currency used in the Cilicia kingdom is Pero. But Pero is not the actual money used here."

"What? So what is the actual money used here and why do you refer to it as Pero?"

"We use Pero as an intermediate to define the value of a particular amount and the actual money we use is divided into these categories: *Bronze*, *Silver*, *Gold*, *Platinum* and if the amount is so big that platinum coins are also not enough, then we use *diamond*."

"So you exchange money in the form of bronze, silver, etc and tell the value of total money through Pero."

"Yeah, you are right and their value in Pero is:

1 bronze = 1 pero

1 silver = 100 pero

1 gold = 10,000 pero

1 platinum = 1,000,000 pero

1 diamond = 100,000,000 pero"

"We use pero to avoid confusion because the pricing of items referring to, let's say bronze or silver, creates confusion, so we make a common term and compare it with others." She further illustrated.

"Oh... So that is the reason. But what is the current form of money? Is it that they are in the form of coins?"

"No! A category of money such as Bronze, Silver, etc can be further divided into three parts. Let's take Bronze as an example. First, there is 1 bronze coin. Its value is 1 pero. Then, after that, there is 10 bronze cash, and it is made with a  certain amount of bronze imbued in paper through magical energy, so its cost is equivalent to 10 pero and the last one is 50 bronze cash, its value is equivalent to 50 pero, and the process is the same but has more material then 10 Bronze cash."

"Oh okay, now I get it. "

"The same is true for other categories and their manufacturing process."

Now, there is a lot of information I have gathered and I think it will be very useful to plan my way forward, plus I look forward to what my future adventures look like.
