Chapter 02

“I thought you had a major issue with the codes and all the last time you told us?”

“Well I did have a major issue back then, but like I just said, it was back then. I managed to pull myself together and get on with it. Trust me bro, those were trying times. But I figured out a little trick that managed to allow me to speed up the correction process, cutting down the time and even allowing me to spot some other errors I didn’t know even existed.

And now after over six months despite some little mishaps trying to hold me down along the way, I finally managed to finish coding the legacy app, ‘Final year chronicles’. In the end, before we leave, we’d be setting the foundations in the app, our gift to the school and those coming after us…”

Kyng watched Dayo closely as he spoke, he could actually clearly see him shivering from excitement. Who wouldn’t be so excited though, after coding your first application software for over six months and finally getting to complete it with no problems, and from the way he spoke it seemed like the software was running just fine as well, something that is by no means an easy feat, you’d feel content even if you aren’t as excited.

“Final year chronicles? You decided on a name like that for your ‘Legacy app’?” Donald said, apparently still not giving up on teasing Dayo.

“What’s wrong with name. Final year chronicles sounds pretty interesting with a little bit of mystic when you hear or see it. Besides, with the idea and purpose this app was created for, it’s technically going to be a chronicle detailing experiences of those in their final year, So what do you think?” Dayo immediately retorted, not willing to have the name he purposefully chose be slighted like so.

“I still think its lame…” Donald casually said, looking to the side as he spoke, showing his disregard.

Dayo felt the corner of his lips twitch at that statement but he couldn’t think of anything to say again. This rascal was now starting to get him riled up.

Kyng burst into laughter at the point, “So what are you going to do now, you mentioned discussing the issues about the app with Mr. Abraham right?”

Dayo turned to look at Kyng, feeling slightly comforted. At least there was someone he had beside him that wasn’t bent on downing his morale. “Yeah, I did do that. And back then, he was fully supportive of it. He even said it wasn’t something that should have been thought of a long while ago already. Once it was done, he would help with getting the approval from the school and getting all the necessary procedures done. In a short while, the app would be up and ready in the school’s system and website. With a little popularizing among the students in the school, everything would be up and running from there in a short while.”

“Well that’s cool…” Kyng nodded in anticipation.

“Hold on” at that point, a voice spoke out, Kyng and Dayo turned to look and saw Donald looking at them with a somewhat serious expression, feeling curious they perked their ears, “What’s up?”

“This tight circle of brotherhood has been established and lasted for over six years…” Donald continued upon seeing he had gotten their attention, “We promised to share weal and woe together under the pale moonlight at midnight…” Dayo and Kyng listening to Donald speak began to have weird expressions hearing what he was saying, ‘Share weal and woe together under the pale moonlight at midnight?, what the heck was he talking about. Kyng could faintly feel that this rascal was about to spout some nonsense again.

“With the oath taken, when the time comes that one of us ends up in trouble, the other two would be there to help. But now that there’s the opposite to be encountered, we all must stand together to receive this glory.

“…What the heck are you trying to say you?” Dayo squinted his eyebrows at this point, he could now faintly tell what was going on but he still wanted to hear it from him. Hearing all the words Donald had said, he could only cringe inside. Truly being shameless required talent…

“What I’m saying is… you gotta mention our names beside yours when launching this app.”

“So basically, you want your name on a project you wrote no line of codes to contribute to?” Dayo squinted his eyes slightly more

“Hey, hey, that’s not the only thing that counts. What of all the psychological and emotional support. Remember we stayed with you all day in your room the time you had those issues with the codes, not letting you out of our site so you wouldn’t do something stupid. Because of you that day, I missed a date with a hot girl in college.” Donald said feeling indignant.

“What hot date with a girl in college are you talking about, wasn’t that just accompanying your sister and her best friend to go watch a movie, you had no chance with that girl way beyond your league, not to mention a date with her. Besides, you came over that day for barely an hour before heading to the computer to ‘finish an important match online’. You only stopped because you got hungry and smelt food cooking downstairs. Think I don’t remember?”

“Well my presence there that day was what counted the most…” Donald shamelessly countered, “And what do you mean I had no chance, I already have this very handsome face of mine and I’m still growing so I’m covered in the looks department, and putting that aside, you’re looking at a near future genius actor and artist, don’t look down on me due to my current state you.”

“I still don’t think…” the two began to bicker back and forth forgetting any other thing, the topic of their argument had even slowly steered away from the initial and topic and had become something else entirely. Kyng also causally turned his attention at that point, already used to the situation as he looked around the familiar yet unfamiliar classroom. This was their first time in this classroom since this was the first term of their final year, senior secondary school three, in this class, the last term was spent in their previous class, senior secondary school two. Despite that, the setting of the class wasn’t much different from each other, the only big difference that was clearly obvious was the big and long LED board about seven feet long and a foot high, that displayed two glaring words, ‘Final year’, as if making sure to constantly remind them that this was their final year in high school and the year they had to start making decisions.

Kyng took a second longer look at it, it was a form to the final year high school students but also a form of encouragement as well. Looking at it, different thoughts, random yet connected began to flicker through his mind as the time passed.

But not that time passed before he pulled himself out of his thoughts, at that point, another person had walked into the class. This was a fairly young looking man, he hovered around six feet and was rather lanky in stature, while he looked young in appearance, anyone looking carefully beyond the glasses on his face would be able to see the eyes behind them. Brown eyes that held a certain glow to them, a glow that was usually seen in the eyes of those with a good experience in life of life.

“Good morning sir” All the students greeted in chorus, their voices mixing together to rise up an octave, resounding in the classroom. At that point even Dayo and Donald had stopped their argument, brought to the realization that they were still in school and not in an arena ring.

“Good morning guys…” the man said as he reached the front of the class, turning around to take in the view of the whole classroom with the various faces entirely different from last year now occupying it. He paused a bit before he continued with a light smile on his face, “At this point in time, you guys all probably already know me and know who I am, what my name is. But following the formalities, I should probably introduce myself properly, so… my name is Omaye Micheal, you can call me Mr. Micheal, or maybe call me Sir Micheal or Teacher Micheal or even Lord Micheal, I won’t mind that at all…” at this point, the man chuckled to himself a bit, feeling pleased with his little joke that managed to receive a decent amount of laughs from the class of students staring at him, before he continued, “You all should know me as your class adviser, I’m the person you can come to meet if you have any issues or questions concerning your academics or whatnot. But before I say anything else, here’s one question…

Are you ready?”
