4: Covered in Mud

"Grandma, why do you say so? I'm seriously tired of that good-for-nothing man! He keeps on embarrassing me every day. Even the thought of having been engaged to him sickens me! Talk more of a fake Engagement!" Selena persisted, and then added with a frown, "Why can't we just send him away? I don't even know who he is or why I have to be engaged with him!"

"I said don't even bring that up. You don't understand anything! At a time like this, you just simply act along with us. When the right time comes, I'll tell you" Selena's grandmother said calmly.

"But still, we've kept him for almost three years now, why can't we just get rid of that annoying brat? You've been saying that we need to be patient, and wait for the right time and all, but time is flying. Why haven't you taken any action yet?" Selena retorted impatiently.

"We can't be rash," Grandma said as she looked at Mrs Dawns and then at Selena, "I believe you should at least be aware of why I'm doing this so don't even think of questioning me." And after calmly drinking from the tea, she continued with a cold smirk on the corner of her lips, "You two just keep making a fuss over nothing and blabbing. Just keep it up together and don't even try anything stupid or say anything stupid before him. Sooner or later. ... he will be eliminated for good, in a way that not even the wind could tell what happened to him."

The dinner around the dining table of the three women was interrupted by the sudden opening of the entrance door to the sitting room.

At this point, all eyes were at the door as they watched a strange figure enter.

Thanks to the light in the room it wasn't hard to recognize this person as Matt, who was covered up in mud from his shirt down to his pants. The dirt was so clear and the smell was just too heavy that the women quickly placed their hands over their noses!

"What in the world is this?!" Selena snapped first, "Why are you covered in the disgusting stuff and you still have the guts to walk in here?!"

Matt took a few steps ahead slowly with the dirt mark tracing his way through.

"Stop right there, you disgusting thing!" Mrs Dawns quickly snapped as she got up to her feet and stormed towards him.

"You...Look at how dirty and smelly you are!" She placed a hand over her nose as she spoke, "How can you be so stupid?! And where is my..."

Just then, her eyes tracked down to the box in his hands which was covered up with mud as well. "This is it." She snatched it out from his hands, ignoring the stink, and opened it up. Her collection of jewelry in the box was partly covered in mud!

Her eyes widened ferociously in shock as she glared at him, "How... how dare you do this?! You did it on purpose right?! You son of a bitch" She angrily raised a hand to land a slap on Matt's face.

"Don't be too rash." The Grandma, who elegantly sat there, said as she looked up at them, "He was probably drunk or playing around and then made a mess again. Don't overreact about that jewelry, You can always get another one." Hearing this, Mrs Dawn's hands were stuck up in the air.

"Another one?" Mrs Dawns turned to face Grandma, "This is a limited edition! It's worth more than his life! And you say I shouldn't do anything? Isn't he just a ..."

"I said enough already!" Grandma said slowly and firmly as she looked up at Mrs Dawns, "It's already night so don't make a fuss about it now. You can tell him to take it to the jewels store another day and wipe it clean. It's nothing, so stop bubbling."

Mrs Dawns looked at the old lady for a while as she held in her annoyance. She then turned to look at Matt who had his eyes down.

"Take this!" She snapped, tossing the jewelry back to him, "Do well to wipe it clean and make sure there's no damn smell by tomorrow, or else you'll get it real good from me!"

She was still annoyed and furious as she turned and stormed off, heading upstairs to her room.

Matt felt his heart sink. But he was a bit relieved since Grandma had helped him out at least. Now he had temporarily escaped from Mrs Dawns' wrath, yeah, temporarily!

Because he knew that she never lets go of anything easily. She would certainly get back at him with some sort of punishment. Especially something as important as this!

"And you boy, don't always do stupid things!" Grandma said simply, smirking slightly.

"Sure... Thanks, grandma." Matt Dawns appreciated with a slight nod as he looked up at Selena. He hadn't expected that she'd be back by now since she had gone on a date with that Luke guy.

But to his surprise, she was already back!

Selena, on the other hand, rolled her eyes at him and focused on the meal before her.

"Then...I'll be off." He said as he headed upstairs to his room.

"So annoying and embarrassing!" Selena mumbled as he left, loud enough for Matt to hear clearly.

***

Matt's bedroom wasn't that special or extravagant. Based on what he knew, It was originally a guest room that was remade, and certain stuff was removed to bring it down to its current level.

Something as low as a place fit for a common man.

Matt knew it was ridiculous but he ignored it anyways.

He took his time to wash himself up and then got dressed before going to sleep. Since no maid was going to do it for him, he ended up cleaning up the mud in his room and through the sitting room, himself.

It was always like this and he was used to it. Any mess he made would be handled by him.

Even the maids talk and laugh at him behind his back and ridicule him on this very fact. Some even ended up insulting him indirectly and looking down on him.

All these he knew and kept calm about because he couldn't possibly retaliate.

When he was finally done with cleaning up and stuff, he landed on the bed there and placed his hands behind his head.

He had his eyes up on the ceiling with his thoughts running wild.

At this moment, he didn't have anything more in his mind which he was thinking about other than the amusing incident which had happened that evening before he got home.

Yeah, the same reason he was covered up in the mud.
