Chapter Six

Herbert Halloway was interested in having more questions especially knowing more about their status when one of his bouncers walked rapidly up to him and whispered into his ear. He gazed at the back with a surprise. It seemed he was alerted of an impending danger.

“We will talk later, ladies,” Herbert Halloway said and walked out of their presence.

The disguised Supernumerary police thought they had been gotten. Despite their feigning disinterest in having a conversation with him, they weren’t comfortable with the fact that he was leaving. It was all a strategy they employed so they wouldn’t look desperate and make it seem like a set-up.

Sergeant Clinton and Detective Sam were left awed in the corner where they sat. When he stood up from the presence of the ladies after having a short conversation with his bouncer left them confused and they were twirling their eyes around trying to know what had gone wrong.

They gazed at his rear with their cap as Herbert Halloway walked out of the garden where they sat to the exit with the heavy entourage he came with. Everyone was hailing him as he walked out and he dropped a bundle of naira notes for them and they began to fight over it.

“What’s wrong?” Detective Sam asked.

“I don’t know.”

“Let’s go!” Detective Sam said and went on his toe.

He ensured they spent a few minutes in the hotel before they came out to ascertain that Herbert Halloway and his men had left completely. They went to the main hotel where they were lounging with the ladies. The police commissioner had suggested a government quarter on the Island for the ladies but Detective Sam turned it down knowing that eyes would soon be kept on the ladies and they might in the end be caught.

They didn’t know how long the mission was gonna take and they had been spending a lot of money on the hotels. In fact, their mission would soon begin wholly when Herbert Halloway had finally been caught in their nest.

When they touched down at the hotel, a few minutes later after they had communicated to the ladies, they joined them at the hotel. Detective Sam was on his toe in the room having diverse thoughts trotting through his psyche when he heard the knock on the door. He knew forthwith that it was the ladies and he jumped to the exit to unlock the door for them; he couldn’t wait to hear what was discussed with the Mafia boss.

When they entered, sergeant Clinton went on his toe to make space for them on the bed.

“How was it? What went wrong that made him left?” Sam asked.

“I don’t know,” one of the ladies said.

“So what’s the conclusion of your discussion?” Clinton asked.

“I think we’ve almost conclude our discussion before his bouncer came and disrupt it. Every other things we were discussing are just extra. I think he is interested in us all. He was interested in knowing the exact business we engage in before his bouncer came.”

Detective Sam was surprised. He never thought it would be that fast. He was glad that they didn’t discuss anything about it because he was still trying to find a suitable business to use for all of them. He wanted to share the business among them to the extent of having a full information about Herbert Halloway’s activities hence, the business would cut across everything he engaged in.

Detective Sam had a lengthy sigh as the ladies gawked at him yearning for a response. He was the leader of the mission hence, his message was the most important. He broke the silence.

“We will beheading back to Mushin now to restrategise. This time, more precise and concise so the record will be set straight when he was gonna have a meeting with you ladies,” Detective Sam said and picked the car key.

As he walked out, he branched the reception and have a subtle conversation with the ladies he met there. Three of the Supernumenary police entered the car with him and the remaining two entered the second car with Sergeant Clinton. The Ford and Range Rover the ladies drove to the Oriental Hotel was left in the car park of the hotel where they lounge. They drove speedily out of the premises.

Herbert Halloway arrived at his hefty Castle in Mushin after spending almost an hour on the road. It was majorly because of the traffic he encountered en route. He was given a signal that some police had bursted his Castle and wanted to raid it when he was at the hotel. It was the police men from another division when one of his men caught with hard drug confessed that he was sent on the journey by Herbert Halloway. It came as a shock because there was a vow that had been made among all his Cabinets that no matter the situation he must not be disclosed as the sender of anyone.

Anyway, his men didn’t allow the entrant of the policemen despite the threat. The police came with the National Drug Law Enforcement agency (NDLEA) and Herbert Halloway went to meet them at the entrance and he went away with them. A large number of his entourage defied the police order and went with him in their own car. Herbert Halloway made few calls and spending a few minutes in their custody being interrogated, his political affiliation came to the rescue again and the police including NDLEA couldn’t press any charge further against him as the culprit was forced to eat his word and withdraw his former confession.

His men who disclose his name due to anxiety was released with him and as norm, he was killed in he judgement room. Herbert Halloway’s heart burnt due to the incident which gave him a tough night and making him to pass the night in the police custody.

He summoned a conference with everyone who worked for him and made enquiry about who sent the guy that was caught exactly among his cabinet.
