Chapter 6

Chapter 6

The Hales were thrown into shock, surprise at what just unfolded. Murmurs were the first to seeped into the atmosphere, engulfing everyone as Lennox picked the envelope and verified it was truly invitations to the party.

Not one but many invitations, and that means everyone in the family gets to go to the party. This is a dream come true for them.

Going to that party would upgrade their status in the city, they won’t be seen as a second-class any more, instead as one of the elite rich families in EastHill, they would have the opportunity to blend and make a future in that party; aside the other rich families that are coming to the party, there main target was the Great Five. Getting into business with them is all they ever craved and wanted, and this party might just be the ticket to that happening.

Everyone gaped surprisingly at Avon, everyone of them too seeming speechless and unable to say a word, and that also include Abigail and her husband who were just bargaining about giving Lorraine out for invitations.

Lorraine seemed surprised and wasn’t so surprise, she knew her husband wasn’t that poor and low as her family made him to be. She was the only one who visited his villa to know the man she married is way higher than her family rich status, she just doesn’t who exactly he is.

“Who is he?” One of them; Royce in particular voiced out tightly, his tone drenched in silence and surprise. He gazed wildly at Avon, different thoughts on who exactly he could be running through his mind.

“Did she just refer to him as, Boss.” Charlotte thought out loudly, her lips stretched wildly in a gasp.

“How did he get it?” Vance questioned himself, his expression filled with disbelief and amazement.

“How did you get it?” Abigail asked, who was the most surprised because her moment of honor was just cut short, the family won’t graced her and her husband’s feet now that they have gotten the invitations. “Are you perhaps in touch with the General’s cleaner?” She scoffed with an eye roll, glaring hard at Avon who wasn’t acknowledging her remarks one bit.

“The question should be who is he? Who are you?” Oscar, the most quiet of them all finally spoke up, gaping intensely at Avon as if he could ferret out the answers to his question just by looking at him.

“He’s a no one, a nobody in fact, he might have stolen the invitations. Let’s be realistic here, this guy right here has nothing, he’s a poor wretched man that shouldn’t call his life a life. He must have stolen the invitations so he can atleast look good in front of grandpa and try to gain his positive affection.” Abigail took it upon herself to make sure Avon’s identity stays stained forever.

“Look here Avon or whatever you refer yourself as, we both know why you’re here, the reason why you’re doing all this. Treating my brainless cousin’s face, getting the invitations and all that, we both know you’re into Lorraine because of our wealth. So I suggest you back off now, with your fake stolen invitations and get the hell out of my family’s villa.” Abigail lashed out rudely at Avon.

“Enough Abigail!” Lorraine shouted from where she was, her eyes blazing in anger as she glared murderously at her cousin.

“I have had quite enough of you speaking badly about my husband who has done nothing wrong to you.” She warned in a stern voice, “And to you all,” her index lifted pointing at the rest of the family excluding Avon.

“The least you can all do after getting what you want right now is thank him,” she pointed at Avon referring that he should be thanked, “And not allow this brat to keep insulting her.” She added with her eyes fixed menacingly on Abigail.

“And now that you’ve all gotten your invitations, I suppose I should be on my way with my husband then.” Lorraine spoke up, her confidence leveling up to a new level. She walked around the living room heading to where Avon was standing, she slipped her arm around his clinging to it. “Or does anyone still have a thing to say about that?” She questioned in a daring tone, traveling her gaze around the living room.

“Lorraine-“

“Not a word from you mother.” Lorraine shunned the words from coming out of Charlotte’s lip. “If anyone is to talk to me, it wouldn’t be you. I have forgotten how you’ve always treated me, and today just reminded me of that. How the brutal truth speaks that I can never be part of this family, I will always be unwanted and pushed around.” Lorraine lamented with anger mixed with sadness.

Avon understand how she felt, he pulled her closer placing his arm around her shoulder and letting her feel comforted.

“Goodbye to you all, I really hope that the greed we have doesn’t kill us. I’m out of here.” She urged for Avon to take us out and he obliged, flashing her a smile as he took her hand in his and the both of them headed out of the house.

When they got outside the villa Lorraine stopped them from moving closer to the multi-purpose vehicle parked and waiting for them. She stopped Avon for some questioning, she haven’t genuinely ask Avon about his background or who exactly he is.

“How did you get those invitations?” She started off asking, her gaze bored into Avon’s, in hope to notice any form of insincerity if it should be noticed.

“Simple, I made a call and it was delivered. The invitations I mean.” Avon answered, sounding nonchalant and not actually noticing the seriousness on Lorraine’s face.

“Who exactly are you?” Lorraine asked again, the seriousness in her tone hinting off about the situation.

“You will soon know, I wouldn’t wanna spoil the surprise now would I? Darling don’t get worked up,” he moved closer filling the gap separating Lorraine from him, “I promise you that everything would be clear soon, you’ll all know who I am soon. Everyone of you, now I want you to go home and start preparing yourself for that party. I’ll be back to come pick you tonight for a fun date between us.” Avon gave her a pretty smile, engulfing her in a light hug.

Lorraine chuckled sarcastically after they have separated from the hug, “I doubt they would give me one invitation out of all they have with them. I trust my family, I would be left out of this even though it was through my husband they got all those.” Her lips pouted in unhappiness, tears stung at the corner of her eyes threatening to spill down her face.

“Well I have had a personal invitation prepared just for you.” Avon dipped his hand inside his pocket bringing out the ribbon decorated envelope to Lorraine’s face. “Now I want you to make sure your appearance to the party tomorrow night leaves everyone breathtaking, and most especially, envy that only I owns you.” Avon had leaned against her left ear whispering to her in a deep sensual tone.

“Goodbye Lorraine.” He waved as he turned out and walked out of her sight.
