Chapter 3: New Company

Elvira's POV,

When my alarm clock rings, I got up from my bed and turn it off. Another day, another stress. I went to my closet and prepared my school uniforms.

Andrei messaged me last night that we'll be meeting at the coffee shop at 7 a.m. After preparing, I went in the bathroom and started cleaning myself. I turned on the shower and the yesterday event suddenly flashed in my mind.

"Just how the hell did he know my name?" I whispered, feeling the cold water on my skin. "Perhaps he has a list of all the people's names?"

Shaking my head, I turned off the shower and proceed to get my towel. I shouldn't overthink about that before going to school. I went in my room and wore my uniform. I comb my hair, prepared my things and ate my breakfast.

Once my morning routine is done, I went outsude and locked the door. I fixed my bagpack before proceeding to the gate.

"Going to school?" Grandma asked, taking a sip of tea. She's sitting on a wooden chair at their porch.

"Yes, grandma! Goodmorning anyways!" I shouted, waving my hand vehemently.

"Take care, Elvira!" she prompted, waving her hand too.

I nodded and continue walking. She's the mother of my late father. She has been looking at me since I was young. She always come to my house and give me anything I need. My grandma is really kind and realiable.

And regarding to my parents, they died a long time ago because of car accident. We were travelling from my school after my recognition and suddenly a huge truck hit our car. I managed to survive but my parents didn't.

I experienced great trauma and depression back then. I don't know what to do. I thought my life would end at my parents funeral. But my grandma stayed with me. She gave me hope and love that I really need the most at that time.

I arrived at the coffee shop at the exact time of 7 am. My class will start at 8:30 am, so I still have a lot of time. I looked around the coffee shop to search for Andrei and I saw him sitting on the long couch near the glass window.

I smiled and walked sneakily to him. I went beside him while he's busy watching anime on his phone. I bit my lower lip to prevent myself from laughing and suddenly hold his shoulders.

"Hey!" I shouted, shaking his shoulders.

"F*ck!" he cursed, fumbling with his phone.

"Hahahahahaha!" I laughed, sitting across from him. "Your reaction was priceless."

He rolled his eyes, putting his phone in his pocket. "You scared the hell out of me, Elvira."

"Sorry." I giggled, putting a peace sign.

He shook his head, chuckling. "So what do you want?"

"Just a hot coffee....any coffee will do," I answered, sitting comfortably on the chair. The cushion is really cozy.

"Don't you want a cake or any sweets?" he asked, looking at the menu.

"No, I already ate my breakfast. So only coffee will do," I replied, putting my bagpack on the couch beside me.

"Okay." He nodded and went to the counter to order.

After few minutes he arrived together with our orders. He sat across from me and we started drinking our coffees.

"I read new novel and it's about reapers and souls," Andrei shared, showing the novel from his phone.

I swallowed a lump upon hearing those words. "R-really? What tittle?"

"Reaper's Love. But the main genre is romance not thriller, so it's not that good for me." Andrei shrugged fixing his polo shirt.

"I see." I nodded. There I go again. The events happened yesterday flashed in my mind again.

"Are you okay, Elvira? Why are you closing your eyes?" he asked worriedly.

I opened my eyes and nod at him. I didn't even realize that I closed my eyes.

"I'm fine, sorry." I bowed.

"Okay." He nodded reluctantly, still not sure if he's going to believe me or not.

Hoisting my bag on my shoulder, I stood up from the couch and grab my coffee. "I think we should head to school. It's already 7:40 am." I looked at my wrist watch.

"Oh sure," he agreed, hoisting his bag on his shoulder.

I didn't respond anymore until we reached the main door of the coffee shop. We rode a bus and none of us is still talking, but I could feel his stare from my side.

We went out of the bus and throw our empty cups into the trashcan. Mechanically, we entered the school gate without minding the strict guard. Here he go again. Always glaring at every student.

"Elvira about the novel I have read, do you think reapers are true?" Andrei asked, breaking the silence between us.

I looked up at him and stare at his brown eyes. Yes, Andrei. Reapers are true. They're existing in this big world. Fighting the wraiths and protecting the souls to enter the portals I saw yesterday. Just like what the novels said, they're all wearing black and has different and wonderful scythes. I wanted to say that to his face, but I need to keep it a secret.

Just like what Mr. Reaper said last night, I need to keep their identity secret, otherwise he'd erase memories, which I don't want to.

"I think they are just fiction," I answered, averting my gaze off of him.

"You have a point. However, there's a part of me that want to believe that they're existing." He crossed his arms as we took the hallway leading to our classroom.

"How could you say so?" I questioned, trying my best to sound nonchalant as I can.

"That's because people die. And those dead people will probably go with them," he explained, shrugging. "But I'm not sure too if that's really true hahahaha! But I want to believe that."

"The world is big, so we really don't know if that kind of creature is really existing. But for me, they're just fiction," I uttered, placing my hands behind my back. Come on, Andrei. Just believe me already.

"You've got a point. Do you want me to accompany 'til second floor?" he asked, pointing above the building.

"No need. Thank you." I nodded, flashing a smile at him. Fortunately, he didn't continue talking about reapers anymore....because it's too awkward to me who saw it.

"Okay take care the. See you later!" he exclaimed, waving his hand.

"Yeah! See you later." I waved my hand too, climbing up the stairs.

I went in my classrom and took my seat on my proper seat. Since our teacher haven't arrived yet, my classmates are still noisy talking to each other.

After few minutes, our first subject teacher entered our classroom in a rush. All of us stood from our sears and greeted him goodmorning. He greeted us back too before motioning us to take our seats and start his lessons.

My whole day classes finished with a lot of discussions and assignments from our teachers. What a tiring day. Andrei texted me that he's waiting at the milktea shop in front of our school. However, I texted him that I need to go home early to finish my school works. Since Andrei is an understanding friend, he let me off this time, but I'm sure he'll force me next time to hangout with him.

Since my dismissal time is rush hour, it's hard to catch a bus. Plenty of students, workers, and parents are now waiting for bus to arrive in waiting shed.

"Tch! Our school should change our dismissal."

"I agree! It's really hard to catch a bus at this hour."

I looked at the two girls who're about my age. They're talking exasperatedly with each other. Well, I agree with them. It's really hard to catch a bus at this hour.

I was about to get my phone in my bag but a bus suddenly arrived in front of us. I looked inside the bus and saw that there's a lot of people, so I didn't bother to get in. I'm sure I can't sit inside.

The two girls, workers and other students went in the bus until it's only me and an old man who remained in the waiting shed. As the bus left, I saw another bus approaching. I prepared myself to get inside.

When it stop, the door opened and saw few people inside. I was about to go in but the old man go in first. I thought he couldn't move properly because of his age but he's completely fine.

I went inside as the bus door closed. I sat on the empty chair near the glass window, seeing the beautiful night view outside.

The bus started moving as I rest my head on the backrest. The trip was going smoothly not until my face slammed on the back of the bus chair in front of me.

"Ow." I whispered, rubbing my face. "What was that." I looked in front, seeing a damaged car. Did our bus hit that?

Swallowing a lump, my heart started to beat so fast. I need to get out of this place. I was about to go but I saw the bloody face of the bus driver. He's head is struck on the front glass of the bus.

The passengers started to panic and go to the bus door. I tried to calm myself to get outside too, but a loud sound distract me. I looked at the glass window, seeing a dump truck approaching us. The driver is trying to spin the dribing wheel but the truck remain moving forward.

"Damn!" I cursed, standing up from the bus and and was about to go outside, but it's too late.

I could feel the impact of the truck on our bus. My head hit the glass, making it to break into pieces and struck my skin. I could say I'm lucky since I didn't get directly hit from the truck, but I received the too much impact.

The chairs fell down on my knees, making me lost my balance and fell. My head is starting to get dizzy as I'm smelling the smoke probaby coming out from the bus.

Is this the end for me? Am I going to meet my parents soon?

I could feel my eyelids becoming more and more heavy and my eyes are getting blurry too.

But before I can close my eyes, I saw a figure of a man, wearing a black suit. He's slowly approaching me. Who is it? Who is he?

And after that everything went black.

Third Person's POV,

"Tomorrow evening."

"Woah that fast?" Michelled asked, standing up from the floor.

"Yes, and not just her. All the people from the same place of her will die tomorrow," Drevox explained as he stood up too. "Are you okaym Jay?"

"Of course not!" Jay barked.

"Does that mean we have a lot of souls to accomapany to the portal?" Michelle clariefied, crossing her arms.

"You could say that, but the problem is, no portals are approaching now," Drevox replied, walking closer to Jay.

"Eh? So those souls need to wait until the portals make their apperance? That's dangerous if the portals doesn't arrive after their 30 days," Michelle freaked out, brushing her hair using her fingers.

"That's right. Those souls will turn to wraiths if the portal doesn't make it apperance in 30 days," Drevox agreed, offering his hand to Jay to help him up.

"Thank you, boss." Jay reached his hand and tried his best to stand.

Drevox wrapped bis company's arm around his nape, helping him to walk. "You really lost plenty of your energy, Jay. You should sleep to regain it back.

"Aye aye sir!" He salute.

"So we don't need to go there to help them since the portals won't make their apperance?" Michelle inquired, arranging the basement.

"No, we still need to go there to check those souls," Drevox answered. "That's or job."

"Okay boss." Michelle nodded.

"By the way boss, how did you know her expiring date?" Jay asked nosily as they all climbed up the stairs leading to the hallway to the secret gate.

"I've browsed through the death book this year last week," Drevox muttered blankly, making Jay nod.

They all walked through the dark hallway that torches are the only source of light. Their footsteps are echoing loudly and eerily on the floor. As they arrived in front of the secret door, Michelle push the button to open it. The crashing sound of the rocks started, indicating that it is slowly opening. She then pushed down the lever beside the button to light off the torches.

"Careful," Drevox minded, helping Jay to go in the mansion.

Michelle let them go in first before she followed them. She spin on her heel, pushing the button behind the shelf, closing the secret door. Another crashing sounds ratled in the storage room.

"Let's go. You two need to rest for the later mission," Drevox uttered when the secret door or passageway closed.

They all went back to their roomand Drevox helped Jay to get in his. The latter was so persistent not to rest but Drevox ordered him to which he couldn' argue anymore.

Michelle went in her room too but before that he bid goodbye first to her boss. Hanz and Paula aren't in the living room anymore. Just like Jay and Michelle, the two companies are also in their rooms to rest.

Drevox sat on the cozy couch, leaning his nape on the top of the backrest. He raised his right hand, covering the light that coming from their chandelier.

"What are you doing?" Danielle asked, laughing. He's holding his folder as he closed the door behind him.

Drevox dropped his hand beside him, lowering his gaze at his older brother.

"Resting," he mumbled.

"Hmm. Where are the companies?" Danielle inquired, walking to the dining area.

"Resting too." Drevox sighed.

"I see. I think I should rest too." He nodded as he drinks the cold water from the fridge.

"As you should."

"What's our job later?" he questioned, putting the water container in the fridge and closed it.

"As usual accompanying the souls. However, portals won't make their apperance later," Drevox answered, brushing his hair using his fingers.

"That's a big problem, brother. So where are we going later?" Danielle sat across from him.

"Silang, Cavite." He stood up from the sofa, fixing his clothes. "We're going there to save her."

"What?" Danielle asked, narrowing his eyes. He didn't completely hear his brother.

"I said we'll go there to check the souls." Drevox glanced at him and he nodded.

Drevox proceeded in his room, preparing his clothes to take a bath.

-----

The reapers are now heading to the Silang, Cavite using Danielle's van. He parked his car 30 meters away from the place they'll go.

"What time will their deaths begin?" Danielle asked his brother as they got off the car.

"Two minutes from now, so we need to hurry," Drevox answered as they all ran towards the scene.

Drevox thought that he can arrive at the scene before the accident take place, but the next event surprised him. The truck already bus already hit the car and the truck is now approaching.

"Why is it early?" He gritted his teetch walking fastly to the bus. "Jay, Michelle take care of other souls! Don't let them to wander around!"

"Yes boss!"

"We'll take care the truck!" Danielle shouted as he went to the truck, followed by his companies.

Drevox ruffles his hair frustratedly, walking closer the bus. The bus is now broken into and the glass are shattered into pieces. He looked around and finally saw her lying on the bus floor with bus chairs on her kness. Her skin and head are bleeding from the pieces of glass.

Drevox finally calmed down upon seeing her. He went closer, carrying her up in bridal style. He spin on his heels, drawing large distance from the bus to avoid the explosion that'll soon happen.

He gently put her on the side road, checking her pulse. It is slow and becoming more and more slow. This is the right time to call for the contract.

Drevox raised his left hand as the light surrounds it. After few seconds a transparent paper hovered around his hand. The contract. The agreement to become his companies, the rules, the do's and dont's are all encrypted on it.

The paper hovered down until it reached the level of his eyes. He glanced at her who's trying her best to fight for her life before he looked at the contract again.

"I, Drevox Achellious, the third son of Master Reaper, announced Elvira Stone as my new companion. Seal this paper of agreement and her soul not forever but until I said so!" he announced, putting his index finger on the transparent hovering paper.

The paper light up a little indicating that it already got the boss's fingerprint. Now is the time for the company's fingerprint and swear of oath. But since Elvira is unconcious, Drevox hold his right index finger, placing it on the paper.

As he removed her finger from it, the paper light up again. "Congratulations! She is now your temporary company. I will wait for her oath, so she can be your fully company." That voice came from the paper before it dissapeared into the thin air.

Drevox quickly checked her pulse and it's not returning to normal. He sighed in relief, closing his eyes briefly. He then carried her again in bridal style, shifing his gaze on his other companies.

"We already guided the souls to the safe place for them," Jay reported, stopping in fron of him. He then shifts his gaze at Elvira's unconscious body. "Who is she boss?"

"She's the one me and Michelle were talking about earlier," Drevox answered dissmissively, glancing at Elvira.

"Woah so it was her! What did you do to her boss? Did you make her your company?" he asked excitedly, smiling.

"Yes."
