Chapter 9

CHAPTER 9:

Karina only works at Drayven’s house yesterday, so she presumes that it was too early for him to plead with a maid to stay. He doesn’t know everything about his newly hired maid, and Karina sees him as too naïve to trust her this much just because he judges her nice. She just learned recently that you can see the real personality of a person in his actions, not in his nice way of treating you.

When Drayven pleaded with her like that, the only thing that she could say is ‘yes’ because she wants to give him peace of mind. But at the back of her head, she is not sure if she can do what she says. She may not mention it at the start of their deal as a boss and a maid, but Karina has no plan to stay here any longer because being a maid is more stressful than her other work as a waitress.

She was stress not just because Tristan always gets mad at her and he always acts self-centered and cold. But she hates the part of having a responsibility to maintain the cleanliness of a house so that no one can even notice her effort. Tristan is blind, so even though she cleans the house all day he can’t see Karina’s performance. And Drayven, may have eyesight, but he is the type of person who doesn’t observe others’ efforts; what is important to him is that you did your job and that is enough.

Karina doesn’t say that she wants to praise her all the time, but as an employee, she wants to satisfy her employer and she wants him to notice that she is doing her job well. It can help her to do a job more efficiently because she knows her boss eyeing her performance. But she doesn’t want to ask for it, because she doesn’t want to be more guilty right after hearing Drayven’s reason for being too nice.

“Where have you been? Why did you go home this late? Drayven said that you’ll arrive before six in the morning, but it’s already past six o’clock. Are you running off your job?”

Karina didn’t expect Tristan will wait for him on the couch. She checks her wristwatch and she confirms that he is right, it’s already past six o’clock. She doesn’t know why Tristan monitoring her hour of arrival, but she was not in the mood to deal with him this early morning. Because aside from still having no sleep at all, she is tired, and Drayven recently talks about heavy confession that is hard to think of.

She sighs and says, “I don’t know what is your deal, but I am aware of what time I should be home because I am not the type of person who will neglect my work. It’s just that I can’t control my time of arrival, I can’t maintain—”

“Stop explaining, it’s nonsense.”

Karina frowns. “You know what, if you have a problem with me, just spill it.”

Tristan stands up and did his very best to walk slowly and come near Karina. She just watches him and still frowning, she knows that she doesn’t need to take this conversation seriously but since Tristan started to talk to her; she suddenly wants to take this opportunity to directly tells him that shouting is not suited for giving your maid an order.

He stops after a few steps. “The only problem here is you, you didn’t obey the time you set when will you come home. I will be honest with you; I hate you and I don’t want you to work with us because you acted like you are Drayven’s colleague even though you only met him yesterday. Then now, you came here like nothing is wrong? Who the hell are you to ask me what is my problem in the first place?!”

Karina takes a deep sigh, praying that she won’t lose her temper. “If you hated me, then the feelings are mutual. I don’t want to sound rude because I know you are one of my bosses, but you should be aware that your attitude is not how the boss act in front of his employee! Can you try to be nice at least?”

She knows that the conversation is pointless and there is no reason for them to argue with this, but Karina can’t control herself anymore… she felt pity for Drayven that he has a brother-in-law like Tristan and she knows she can at least pay his nice treatment with her by making Tristan realizes that he is the one who is causing problems here.

“Who are you to order me? I will act on my own and you have no right to correct me! And I assure you, miss, this will be your last day here.”

Karina’s eyes widened. She grins and says, “Oh? Then it’s fine! Don’t worry, you don’t need to kick me out of this house because I can leave voluntarily! Thank you for nothing!”

She didn’t wait for Tristan’s response; she leaves the living room and immediately go to her room to pack her things. She knows that the reason why she talks to him is that she needs to remind Tristan of some manners, but she can’t stop herself to say those words. Karina is fine to leave and she knows it is best to compare to staying with a person who has not a blind eye but a problematic attitude.

When Karina is done packing her things, she saw the food that Drayven prepares for her. She has no time to eat that food, but she feels sorry that Tristan ended up like this after she assured him that she won’t leave Tristan despite whatever he said. But she just can’t take it any longer, Karina already loses her patience with this blind brother-in-law of Drayven.

Before leaving the house, Karina notices that Tristan is still standing where she leaves him. And before finally stepping out, she says, “It is not just you who has a problem in this world. So, if you are going to give others a burden, they will leave you too to get rid of one of their problems.”
