Chapter 10

CHAPTER 10:

Now, Karina is asking herself why she leaves just because Tristan asks her why she comes home past six o’clock. She just realized now that she could avoid arguing with him if she explains that Drayven talks to her outside and it takes almost half an hour. But while she walks and thinks that Tristan hated her, that gives her a satisfaction feeling that she did what is better for her mental health.

“The moment I got home, I will just send a message to Drayven saying thank you at least. I hope he won’t get mad for what I did.”

Karina is wondering what would be her family’s reaction when she goes home, but she knows that, unlike Tristan, they will listen to her and they will understand what happened. It may be hard to find another job that could fit into her schedule, but she will just accept the consequences… she keeps on reminding herself that it is going to be fine.

Meanwhile, Drayven is in full hands in his work in the office. He needs to attend a meeting with an important investor in a coffee shop. He was nervous because this will be the first time that he will talk to an investor like this, his parents didn’t expect him to convince the investor but he doesn’t want to drag himself down just because they don’t trust him.

Drayven will meet the investor at ten o’clock in the morning. He is already sitting at the table while waiting for Mr. Ramos, the investor, to arrive. He is reviewing his proposal as if it will help him to get rid of his nervousness. But while he is reading it, he receives a call… a call that he will arrive at this point. It is from Tristan, telling him that Karina left him alone and she brings all her things.

He stood up due to shock. He didn’t expect Karina will do that after their conversation. Drayven was sure that he told her everything she needs to know so she’ll understand why Tristan acting grumpy. He thought Karina will understand because she nodded. But he was wrong, she still got emotional about how his brother-in-law treated her.

“What have you done this time, TJ? I told you earlier I have a meeting today, right?” he sounds frustrated.

Tristan is aware that he went too far with Karina, he knows it was wrong to say he hates a person right in front of her. He wanted to correct his mistake; it’s just that he doesn’t know how because Karina already left. He doesn’t mind even if he is alone, he just wanted to tell Drayven what happened... to at least lessen his worry. But after hearing Drayven’s voice, he suddenly regrets that he calls.

[Sorry, bro. I just wanted to tell you what the maid has done, but you don’t need to worry about me. I am fine alone and you can continue your meeting—]

“I need to go; the investor is already here,” Drayven hung up.

Because of that news, Drayven loses his confidence to talk with the investor. As the result, Mr. Ramos declined the proposal. He left Drayven still sitting while clenching his fist. Drayven wanted to shout due to frustration but he can’t since he was inside a coffee shop. He blames Tristan for distracting him, but he knows it is pointless.

Drayven used to have failed grades way back in college, that is the reason why his parents don’t see any potential in him that he could handle things related to their business. So, their daughter and son-in-law handle it instead. But since Danica is gone and Tristan got blind, they had no choice but to let Drayven deal with the investor, then he failed once again.

He wants to drink an alcoholic drink to at least forget what happened today, but if he did that, he knows he will just give his parents a reason to slap him with the fact that he is a failure too like Tristan. He may be hurt and frustrated, but he still doesn’t want to lose this chance to prove himself to his parents that he can also do what his sister and brother-in-law did for their business.

It is already dark when he got home, he suddenly remembers that Tristan is alone since this morning and now he was worried about what he did all day, especially what he eats for lunch. When he checks his phone, he read a message from Karina saying sorry that she left Tristan alone but she didn’t explain what happened. So, he ignored that message and go find his brother-in-law.

“Hey, have you eaten your dinner?” Drayven says as he sees Tristan lying on his bed.

He may be frustrated from losing an important investor and he knows his father will yell at him again tomorrow because of this, but it is not what he is worried about right now… he is more concerned with Tristan who is still not answering him. Drayven thinks again of what he said to Tristan this morning, but he didn’t remember anything he said that harshly.

So, he assumes that maybe Tristan was just exhausted or tired. He talks to him once again, “Do you want me to cook for dinner?” Drayven asks.

“Why I am still alive, bro? I only give everyone a problem; I should be gone right now…” Tristan murmurs.

Drayven doesn’t know what exactly happens between Karina and Tristan, but he has no energy to ask what is it. Instead, he sat on Tristan’s bed and says, “One thing is for sure, bro... Danica wanted you to continue pursuing your dreams. Why not try to adjust to everything around you, try to open your mind, and grasp that not everyone will understand your situation? Just focus on recovering, bro… I know, you can do it.”

Tristan didn’t say a word, he just stays still and force himself not to cry. He was just very thankful that Drayven is kindhearted, and he doesn’t want to abuse it. He just made up his mind to at least take his advice and try his best to apply it.
