The attack of the beasts (Part 3)

James positioned himself in front of Charles. To receive the bubble of acid that the beast threw. So he totally ignored the headache caused by the blow, on the other hand, he completely disregarded the blood that was still aggressively dripping from his nose.

"I only have a second to pull this off!"

James shouted that, while on the features of his face you can see how he is still in complete pain, as if his head is split in 2.

It makes perfect sense that James is still in excruciating pain. For, Charles' hand was quite thick. So that with his fist he was able to cover more than half of James' face.

"Stone Barrier!"

James, shouted that and consequently pulled the shield from his back at full speed, standing firm at all times without succumbing to panic, while at the same time maintaining an attacking and totally cold gaze towards the attack that threw the beast.

Then, James buried the shield in the ground. So that on the orders of those words he said, a gigantic stone wall began to emerge from the ground, forming a separation between the two of them and the acid ball that continues at full speed approaching.

"Let's go!"

"I'll make it!

James shouted that the instant the acid bubble whipped against the stone wall he recently created.

Then...

The acid bubble began to penetrate quite intensely the stone fortress created by James, it's so much intensity that even the acid begins to drip into the ground, disintegrating from the root some areas of the barrier.

"Impossible..."

James said that as he saw that his barrier had already been almost destroyed for the most part, having a big hole in the middle. Because of the bubble that is still trying to penetrate the last remaining layer of stone, in addition, some areas of the barrier started to fall off like sand.

All the damage caused by the impact of the acid bubble towards the barrier is incredible, but despite the seconds it has been trying to penetrate the barrier, it has not lost almost any mass or volume...

The Acid Bubble is still very similar in size to when the beast first threw it, having very little difference despite the crash against the wall and the acid splashes it had towards other areas and that have been disintegrating little by little the lower and higher areas of the wall.

"Damn..."

"At this rate, that damn acid is going to come down on us."

As James said that, trying to perform his utmost mental, spiritual and physical strength to keep the wall standing, the beast slowly began to fall to impact with the bridge. So that it could create a new hole and disappear into it.

But...

While the beast is lifted up, it expands from its neck a gualeta, which apparently gives it the ability to slow down the falling process, it does this in order to keep an eye out for Charles or James trying to make a move to attack it. For, even in the air, her gaze is fully intent in the direction of James' stone barrier.

"That damn thing..."

Thanks to one of the small holes there, James could see it and instantly realize what the beast is planning to do.

The beast is planning to use its gualette to keep an eye out for the next move they can make, while at the same time it can control the damage it can take with its fall and also have enough impact measurement to generate a new hole in the bridge and again disappear into the water.

"At this rate she's going to get away and we'll have to go back and look for her..."

James, said that, as he looks down at the ground, trying to think of what he can do in this situation.

"¡¡!!"

James' eyes went wide with shock and pain as he felt one of the acid droplets come in contact with the skin on his cheek.

"ARGHHH!"

James cried out in pain, as the drop of acid began to form a small 2nd or 3rd degree burn on him.

But...

It didn't stop there...

The drop of acid now began to burn the contour of his cheek, further expanding the damage caused.

If it continues like this, the damage caused will be more severe and we won't be able to heal the area....

The only way to stop the slow expansion of the acid on James' face is to wipe the area with an object. Since it is the moisture left by the acid as it penetrates the skin that is spreading the damage, it is almost like water itself.

"Fuck!"

"It hurts too much!"

"At this rate I'm going to be faceless..."

James says that, as he must continue to hold the wall up.

James' eyes begin to glisten as if they're trying to let tears come out of them, but James' own pride prevents them from coming out.

"I'll clean you up from the damage, easy..."

Charles said that, as he pulls a piece of leather removed from the back of his boots closer to wipe James' cheek.

"Don't even think about it!"

James yelled that at Charles, without even looking at him. For, he is totally focused on keeping the wall standing and the beast that is close to touching the ground.

"What are you saying?"

"Do you want to lose face and become unrecognizable from the damage?"

Charles replies to James.

"There's no time for what's happening to me."

"We have a more important mission right now and that is to eliminate these things as soon as possible."

"We've already wasted too much time letting them attack us."

"Now it's time for our counterattack."

James, said that, as the eyes of a hunter began to form in his eyes as he saw both beasts on the bridge through the holes in the wall.

Both Charles and I's skin crawled as James prioritized the mission before his own well-being.

"Now, Charles. I have a plan."

"This beast must be idiot enough to think we're both going to stay behind this wall in terror."

"You're going to get out of here and shoot that monster straight."

James gave that Order to Charles

"It will be impossible to do that"

"You saw how that beast has me in his sights, if he sees me leaning out to shoot, he's not going to hesitate to throw another acid bubble at me."

"Besides, I don't think I have enough aim to hit it while it's falling, you saw yourself how it can correct the speed at which it falls with that strange thing on its neck, as if it has the ability to glide."

Charles debates all that to James.

"How is it possible that with all the time you have been a general, you still don't realize the mysteries and difficulties that can appear when facing a beast?"

James again answers him Charles.

"So what is your plan?"

Charles, asks James that question, which triggers a small smile on James' face.

"You possibly think it's a suicidal plan and it will backfire, but I think it's a good plan to take down that damn monster that threw acid at you."

"I'm going to remove my shield that's buried to the wall."

...

"We definitely won't do that"

Without letting him finish, Charles instantly refused to carry out that plan.

"Let me finish, besides, there's not much time."

"I'll remove my shield to position it on my back so you can jump on it and get a clearer view on the beast."

As soon as, James, finished saying that, he took a deep breath, then began to remove the shield that was covered in stone from the skill he used.

"Stop!"

"I'm not going to carry out this plan in any way!"

Charles, said that, as he shows his disapproval of the plan by once again stowing the bow behind his back.

The sound caused James to turn his head slightly to the right to see Charles out of the corner of his eye.

"No time for denials, we must do this."

James said only that.

"I'm not doing it!"

"You know yourself what will happen if you remove the shield from that wall!"

Charles, said that shouting and worrying about James, while pointing towards the stone wall.

"Yes, Charles, I know that as soon as I remove the shield from this wall, it's going to slowly fall down and lose the defense it possesses, but it's a risk that has to be faced."

James again just says that, showing no greater feeling or emotion, sounding totally cold.

"I said I didn't want to lose anyone on this mission and that obviously includes you as well."

"Why can't we just get out of the way here and let the acid bubble continue on its path until it crashes to earth?"

Charles says that, which causes James to sigh from the despair Charles' excessive concern is causing him.

"If we let the acid bubble slam into the ground, it will slowly start to spread and quite possibly cover the entire central island terrain."

"Do you still want me to stand back and allow the acid bubble to smash into the ground?"

Charles was shocked to the point that his whole body trembled.

"What do you mean expand?"

Charles answered that, confused yet frightened to the point where he almost stuttered as he said those things.

"Are you seriously going to ask me that?

James looks up at the sky, quite possibly wondering again why everyone is such an idiot and can't perceive things like he does.

"I'll tell you the same thing I told Elizabeth..."

"Look at the state of all the corpses that are in our midst."

The moment James says that, Charles starts to observe all the corpses around the place, just like Elizabeth did earlier.

As he looks at them he is somewhat depressed as he thinks of all the families of the soldiers, which will have to be told the terrible news.

"What is the matter with them?"

Charles, replies to James, in a somewhat frazzled voice.

"You are definitely a fool..."

"All the corpses have acid burns, and even something that Elizabeth couldn't perceive at the time, is that the acid wounds are still expanding, very slowly, but they are still expanding."

James said that, while frowning at the look.

"So that means that..."

Charles says that but is instantly interrupted by James, who completes what he was going to say.

"If it falls to earth, it will most likely start to spread like it did to the people who died and like it is doing to my face."

"It will be best not to risk knowing what might happen, so it is best not to risk it because we don't know very well what kind of acid it is and apparently it will most likely also need to be treated by someone who knows healing."

Charles, while listening to everything james said, could only clench his fist as tightly as possible and think of the worst possible scenarios that would occur if James were to remove the wall protecting them.

"Alright, James."

"Let's carry out your plan, but you have to promise me you'll be okay."

Charles said that, as he began to back up a few steps behind to prepare to jump on James' back.

James. After hearing what Charles said, he only formed a small dull smile on his face in response.

"Fine, let's kill those damn things already."

James said that and squeezed his arm tightly in his heel.

"Haaaaaaaa!"

James shouted, as he applied his full force on the shield in order to pull it away from the stone wall.

Charles, in position, ready to run and jump, watches from behind everything James is doing, while swallowing abundant saliva at all times from nerves.

"Haaaaaaaa!"

James, I continue to scream, while as he pulls back the shield, the wall begins to lose strength, slowly crumbling and cracking.

Slowly, several pieces of the wall began to fall and it began to crack almost completely, slowly beginning to take the shape of a wall in very bad shape that could fall at any moment.

"Haaaaaaaa"

At the same time, the wound on James' face, also starts to expand more, all the blood and the inside of the cheek becoming more and more noticeable. To the point that it's almost scary and disturbing to see.

On the other hand, the beast only watches as the wall begins to emaciate, quite possibly it must think that the wall is falling because of the full effectiveness of the acid it threw.

"¡¡!!"

Finally.

James completely removed the shield from the stone wall and positioned it on its back in less than a second.

On the other hand, the acid bubble considerably penetrated the last gap separating James from the acid, therefore, the last pieces of stone began to fall.

"¡¡!!"

James opened his eyes like giant pearls as soon as he came almost face to face with the still gigantic acid bubble. Which, despite all the defending James did, was barely able to shrink in size.

"Hurry up!"

"Charles!

James shouted at Charles as he began to sweat profusely from the nearby acid bubble that was getting closer and closer to his face.

Beads of sweat from nerves, became much more noticeable on James' face.

"Here I come!"

Charles, shouted that, as he began to run the short distance that separated them between him and James.

...

Then he took a big leap

As soon as he touched James' shield with his feet, James lifted him into the air with a small, thin stone pillar he formed.

As Charles soared through the air, still covered by the disastrous remaining wall, he drew his bow from his back and immediately loaded an arrow. It instantly burst into flame.

Charles took a deep breath and closed his eyes to form a mental vision through the wall and anticipate the beast's current position in the air.

He has only one shot to take, he must be accurate in calculating the speed at which the beast is landing, while also taking into consideration the changes in speed it makes as soon as it realizes Charles' shot.

There are many variables that Charles must consider.

Finally

Charles pointed his bow forward with absolutely no sight yet of the beast.

He opened his eyes slowly.

Demonstrating inside his flame-covered eyes, the anger of being constantly threatened by these creatures. In addition, also the anger and rage of always losing allies on the battlefield, innocent people giving their lives in order to protect others.

But...

Above all...

The flaming eyes represent his soul of fire and his ability to completely master fire...

Which is by far the most destructive type of magic there is....

"Explosive arrow..."

Charles muttered that...

Then he finally showed his presence over the wall and shot the arrow directly in the direction of about 3-4 meters above the ground.

The arrow is clearly not aimed directly at the beast at all, because it is considerably higher than the height at which Charles shot the arrow.

...

The beast, upon seeing Charles and the arrow he had just shot, quickly hid its arrow in its body to quickly reduce its height.

...

Is it possible that the beast can't quite calculate the direction and speed at which it is aiming the arrow?

Now I understand...

Charles is playing with the beast's perception...

He will make it confused and that confusion will lead to its own death.

"You fell into my trap..."

Charles, muttered that, as a devilishly pleasant grin formed on his face.

"¡¡!!"

The arrow charles shot hit directly into one of the beast's hind legs.

Nailing itself permanently to it.

"Arrow..."

"Explode..."

Charles muttered that, as he clenched his fist in front of its face, causing the arrow to explode in the process.

Completely destroying the lower part of the beast's body and completely setting the upper part of the beast's body on fire.

The explosion together with the fire caused the beast to lose its stability in the air and, in addition, its gualeta, which allows it to stay in the air for a longer period of time, was completely burned.

Now, the beast plummets directly towards the bridge...

But this time it goes straight towards the beast that still has Dwight by the neck...
