Chapter Fifty-Three: Suspicious.

THIS day was gloomy for Paxton. It was the death anniversary of his family; eight family members of Cartier died on the same day today. Now it is their eleventh anniversary that he will never forget.

With Lorelei on his side, he was holding flowers while looking through the graves of his family. He remembered how devastating it was that night. How he cried too much to the point that tears dried up his eyes. How he wanted to die instead of standing up on his own to continue living. He was only twenty-five back then, he was just starting on his own.

“Do you still miss them?” Lorelei asked.

Paxton licked his lips as he propped each flower on their tombstones. And then he sighed.

“Sometimes, when there’s a memory of them that pops into my mind,” he replied. “I miss how my Dad encourages me whenever I feel down. Also, my Mom’s cooking. No one can beat her food, even you,” he chuckled.

Lorelei didn't feel mad for what Paxton said. Instead, she got curious. B
