CHAPTER NINE

Accepted

Boom ,boom ,boom!

There was a loud and aggressive bang on the main entrance door.

Harry was sitting back straight on his bed, he was like a frightened cat, eyes bulging out and his hair standing. He has never been this scared his entire life. His brothers could do anything at this point to hurt him, to hurt his family.

Smith was here!

With his son or maybe he has sent assassins to wipe them off.

Marie was pale. Tiny beads of sweat circled around her face. Her heart raced fast, almost jumping out of its shell.

She knew has come for revenge. He has a bad temper and so is his son.

Harry, we are doomed! She whispered.

Even Jane was nervous; she walked into the living room and stared at the door as if there were a dozen Truck of Zombies waiting to strangle her to death. Her legs tremble as she tries to calm herself. This was what she feared. He is  a dangerous man and so is his son.

"Open the door", Ralph said, wiping himself with the towel he was holding in his hand.

"We have guests don't we". He said, smiling miserably.

By this Jane was stunned. She wonders if this man was just making things complicated to hurt her family. She doesn't quite understand his kind of person. At the moment she is gripped with fear.

Unknown persons are outside banging their door all he could think of was guests?

Totally unbelievable.

Really? She turned to face him. Searching his face to see if he was joking.

Ralph's eyes had turned red in furry but he managed to flash her a smile.

Your uncle and his son have only come here to apologize to you appropriately. You should open the door Jane.

Jane paused! She froze, still in disbelief.

Smith and Travis who were both eavesdropping with their ears placed against the door looked at themselves in disbelief. They were shocked too.

"I'm sorry Jane, '' Smith shouted at the top of his voice so she could hear the room inside the house. I should have listened to you. This was all my fault and I admit that I was wrong. Firing you was not the right thing to do. I made a mistake, I should have checked first. I'm sorry"…

"We are deeply sorry Jane Travis cut in.

The company really needs you now, please"

I promise I would never, ever trouble you or your family again.

Their tone of voice was as sincere as it could be.

If Jane didn't agree to come back then there was nothing they could do. They have tried all means to get her back to the company but Jane has a firm standing on her decision of not returning.

This whole thing is messed up!

Damn!

"We lost everything. The contract and now Jane. Our best staff". Smith signed heavily.

With this Jane opened the door for them to come in. Smith's face was filled with guilt and remorse.

"We will be waiting for you at the entrance door tomorrow if you don't mind. We would apologize to you in front of every other staff member and I shall explain the reason I fired you to all of them",  he turned to face his son who nodded in approval.

"We are truly sorry for the mistreatment; it will never happen again" Smith and Travis chorused.

She was confused. What was happening to these two men? She couldn't fathom the sudden change. She knows them too well to believe that "we are sorry bull shit".

She has her own plans and she isn't ready to live her life for these men again but herself and her family. These two are traitors. She doesn't trust them one bit.

Jane turned back to look at Ralph Ralph and saw him nod.

"Ok, uncle Smith I shall report to the office first thing tomorrow morning. Goodnight "

Smith and his son left.

Jane closed the door firmly and took a deep breath. She opened her eyes to see Ralph staring at her in a rather awkward way. This made her comfortable because she wasn't even properly dressed. He was her husband yes, she knows but this was not the time for all that…

"Did he really come to apologize? Harry asked. Rolling his wheelchair to the sitting room. His lips trembled as he spoke.

He was shocked his brother could apologize.

To Smith, Harry was a total disgrace to the family. And if they were not related by blood he would have thrown them out of the house a long time ago.

"Yes he came to apologize appropriately Dad" Ralph answered.

"There we go again"

No, this time it's different. Ralph responded.

Marie was also very excited about this. She fought her feelings for years; she had suppressed them as hard as she could.

Even as a daughter -in-law she has not felt love from these people since she was married to their brother. She had been subjected to Malcolm's mood, along with his two arrogant sons. She had quietly endured this bad treatment and torture for years. When she heard how the two men had apologized earlier Marie couldn't hold her emotions any more, she broke into tears.

Damned Bastards!

She wiped her eyes with the back of her palm.

She smiled at her daughter who was standing in from of her.

Jane…uumm! She stuttered. You have to return to work, the family needs that contract. We need the money baby.

Jane watched her closely without saying a word and after her mother was done talking she only nodded her head in approval.

She was still stunned. She walked back to her room.

Ralph had sneaked into the bathroom to take a call. She isn't aware of the caller.

Who ever it was, it wasn't important. Ralph was a mere poor orphan with no friends. The least she could do for him was to keep her under her roof. She owed him that, her family owes him that.

If not for his help, Smith, Lyon and Travis would have made life extremely miserable for her family.

She owed him her life, she had never felt this protected.

But this wasn't the end…the beginning is yet to come.
