Chapter 5

Richardson's eyes doubled in size and his heart instantly began to thump against his ribs fast, the loud sounds almost rendering him deaf. He couldn’t believe what he was currently staring at.

It was the same video of him which had played out in place of his project document back in the board room, and this time, it was playing on the company’s forum.

Richardson felt himself stagger a little and his phone slipped out of his clammy fingers to crash hard on the ground, but he was quick to retrieve it, and that was when he noticed that he wasn’t the only watching that video.

And that was when it clicked.

The video was currently playing from the company’s forum, which automatically meant thousands of people were currently watching that video right now.

Richardson felt his hands start to tremble just as the murmurs around this floor of the company slowly began to rise, while everyone kept shooting him hundreds of glances at once.

An intense feeling of shame washed over Richardson as he watched the video still playing out on his phone. He felt helpless because he knew there was nothing he could do to stop the video from playing.

The thought of one of more of the higher level people of the company currently watching the video as well, made Richardson nauseous that he felt like he was about to puke.

Richardson, feeling helpless, slowly slide into his seat, silently wishing he could disappear away from the face of the earth.

Before he could do anything else, the whole noise around him suddenly stilled, which shocked Richardson, but before he could began to wonder why that had happened, his boss was in his line of sight.

Like a fish out of water, Richardson’s mouth parted a few times but no words could come out, just as his boss thundered furiously.

“Mr. Wilson, you’re fired.”

Those five words began to ring loudly in Richardson’s ears and he wasn’t sure of what had happened next, or about how he had reacted to that.

Because when he finally came back to, he was standing outside the company.

He took a long look at the company and felt his already shattered heart sink to the very bottom, this was a company that he had daydreamed of becoming successful in, after he’d have presented his project.

He couldn’t believe that this was the end of everything.

It had all happened so fast, so Richardson was yet to confirm if this was a bad dream or not. He stumbled when one of his colleagues slammed hard into his shoulders as he walked past him.

Okay, it is now confirmed, this is definitely not a bad dream, if the pain that had shot into his shoulder from that hit was anything to go by.

Richardson wasn’t sure of what he did to warrant that shoulder hit from someone he recognized but has never had a chance to interact with, but he concluded that it was because of that video which the whole company had definitely seen at this point.

He kept walking home, feeling dejected and lost. His phone kept vibrating in his pocket but he ignored it. He wasn’t sure of what he was going to do next, or how he going to continue to raise money for his mother’s treatments.

The money which he had borrowed last for his mother’s recent surgery was still hanging over his head. His rent was almost due. Finding another job was out of the question because his reputation was already ruined, for one.

He walked all the way home and let himself into his apartment with his keys. He was about to head to his bedroom when he heard low voices.

Voices of people talking about changing the files from a laptop.

The apartment was dark but he knew his way around his apartment with his eyes closed, and so he made his way towards the direction of the noise, and that was when he recognized his girlfriend’s voice.

“Are you sure?” Her soft voice echoed out hesitantly and Richardson wondered who she was talking to.

“Of course, I am. Trust me.” The man responded and it took a few seconds for the voice to click into places in Richardson’s head, and his mouth parted his shock.

It was his best friend’s voice. Richardson couldn’t believe his ears.

He barged into the sitting room argrily and the first thing he noticed was his girlfriend sitting beside Michael, his best friend. The anger he felt after that was unexplainable.

Richardson stromed forward angrily and he watched as his girlfriend hid herself behind his best friend, and that angered him more. His best friend attempted to speak.

“Well, I guess that’s it. I thought they’d be a better way to let you know…” Richardson didn’t let him complete his sentence and punched him hard instead.

Michael stumbled from the force of the blow and Richardson was gripping him tight by his shirt collar before delivering two more hard punches in Michael’s face.

He faintly registered his girlfriend screaming in horror as he continued to punch his best friend, but he paid her no heed. There was so much pain in his heat, he couldn’t believe his best friend of over five years could do this to him.

Not only was he betrayed by his girlfriend, it was along with his Bestfriend. Richardson wasn’t sure he had ever felt this hurt before.

He continued to punch Michael angrily and didn’t stop until he felt strong hands harshly pull him off Michael whom he now realized was bleeding from his nose.

What he noticed next, was the loud siren sounds echoing around the apartment, and the furious looking policemen holding him tightly.

Before he could ask questions, he was shoved down hard with a knee in his back and he was handcuffed in the next moment. He attempted to ask why he was being arrested but got no response.

And that was when he realized that his girlfriend had called the policemen when he had been beating Michael up.
