Chapter 9 : Day One As A Slave

The trial ended a little differently than Sanoe's expectations. Actually, he wants not to be attached to any institution for a while and focus on getting to know how this world works. Adapting in other areas may take a short time but what if the scale is larger than that?

What's more, Sanoe moved to a world completely different from his previous life. There are still many limitations and more efforts to make ends meet for those who are not born as owners of abilities or witches. So far, Sanoe has not checked whether he has an ability or not, because he is still quite surprised when his very rational self has to deal with a fantasy world.

Last night, he didn't get enough sleep to remember his mother's kindness and affection until now. He imagined how his mother would react when her son mysteriously disappeared in the bathroom. People in general will definitely ignore and even mock him for telling stories that don't go into their reasoning, that goes for Sanoe as well.

Although not fully improved, he was forced to live a life with new challenges and began his career as a police slave. It wasn't a good start considering he had a very distinctive title in his previous life. When it was too late in his mind, Lieutenant Clarissa resuscitated him by throwing of various uniforms towards the face.

"What are you thinking about, young man? Still looking for justification if that other world exists? Or have you realized that what you're saying is just a boast?"

"What uniform did you give?" Sanoe asked.

"You do become our slave but that doesn't mean you have to wear haphazard clothes when running errands. Uniform is identity. You have to get every job done in order to get the perfect reputation for yourself and the welfare of society."

"Why do you guys like to talk about reputation so much? Are you getting pressure from your superiors?" Sanoe was curious.

"That's correct, but not the main reason. When I decided to work here, the training I got was how to make myself happy and make a positive impact around us. I know you're not stupid and most of the police's job is to serve the grievances and problems of the residents. Maybe as a layman, you must think that this kind of institution is very disgusting or just a bunch of people who are fanatical about fame."

"Whereas if you put that aside, you can witness how they perform their duties wholeheartedly even if they don't get paid. It's based on a true story because when I was three months into working here, I only got food and basic necessities. All those who work here are definitely those who like to help people and are able to protect the population. Those are two different things and we as police have to have both." Lieutenant Clarissa explained.

"Wow. I don't know if you can talk this far. It impressed me."

"Don't tease me, you fool! As your person in charge, it is only right for me to guide you like a teacher."

"You became my guide? Let me guess, it must be Captain Lars who asked you."

"It's not entirely right and it's not entirely wrong. I am the one who decided to teach you until you can adapt and escape my supervision. So, don't think of me as your nanny or your mother!" Lieutenant Clarissa reminded.

"Fine, fine, I know. Then what should I do as a slave to you guys?" Sanoe looked excited.

"Don't be too comfortable being a slave." The woman looked at him with a look of disgust. "Since it's still your first day, you can ask the cleaning man for a task. Do as they tell and never act careless. The cleanliness of this building also has an impact on the quality of our work."

"Well, I'll do it." Sanoe stood up straight in salute.

"Good. You started your career well."

Then he went to the bathroom to change into a plain white T-shirt and long black track pants. What he uses today is not much different from his practice of only wearing shorts. After leaving the bathroom and storing secondary clothes in the previous room, he immediately looked for one of the cleaner services on the floor.

"Excuse me, sir. Is there anything I can help with?" Despite being ordered to be polite, it is possible that Lieutenant Clarissa laughed at his manner of speaking.

"Oh, you must be a new member who is being talked about for being naked, huh? I didn't expect someone like you to be able to work here." A man with a tall body satirized him.

"I don't work here and don't discuss that matter! This was my only choice until Captain Lars revoked my sentence. Now, what can I do?" his courtesy just now instantly disappeared.

"We have quite a lot of tasks, boy. This building has 5 floors and only 5 people on duty like me. But since you came to see me, then you have to help me clean up this floor. First, clean the floor in all rooms. Make sure you don't make a mistake even if it's your first day. You can pick up the equipment in the bathroom at the end of the hallway." The man ruled.

"Okay, sir. The order is received."

Not waiting for a response, Sanoe left the man who was still sitting enjoying coffee in the morning. He walked quickly and his gaze was fixed on a door that was very different from the other doors.

When he opened the door it was a bit rough, he accidentally dropped other equipment stored neatly. Both hands hold back and try to return to their original position with a long exhalation in closing.

“How did that guy keep the mop equipment in the warehouse?! This makes it dirty and smelly." Sanoe was astonished and cleaned the equipment in a separate bathroom from the police.

In his previous life, Sanoe often helped his mother clean the house and repair broken facilities. That's all he learned when he was a child, or rather when his father died. His passion for making a mother a queen is not an easy one. He willingly left the youth with his friends and worked as a basketball player, and from there he got used to learning everything that was needed to serve his mother.

Seeing that some of the rooms were empty, Sanoe could freely clean the floors and tables that the owners had never taken care of. It made him happy because it made it easier for him to memorize the names of the police officers without asking. After finishing cleaning the room, Sanoe returned to the tall man and asked for another task. But when he was still excited about work, the man said.

“It seems that this floor is not too busy. Usually, after this I make drinks and others from them. You better get to the other floor and help those in need.”

Sanoe nodded then headed for the stairs to go down the 3rd floor. There he was confused looking for a janitor on the floor when almost more than five minutes he was looking for him but could not find her. Finally, he was forced to walk casually while hoping to meet the person in question.

Unlike before, in this room, he could see many policemen sitting in their places. Sanoe didn't know for sure what they were doing but it seemed that they were busy with the situation at hand. This is the first time wandering into the building of a much-hated institution in his previous life and only then learns that the police have many divisions. He could see the divisions that were on each sign in front of the door.

“I can read that but I don't know their job and what to do. Seems like being a cop is pretty complicated, huh."Sanoe muttered.

"Hey, naked boy. Why are you hanging around on this floor? Are you trying to get away with the job Lieutenant Clarissa gave you?” The old woman's voice startled Sanoe who was off guard.

He reflexively turned around after giving distance. “Don't be like that, Madam. And don't call me a naked boy!"Sanoe protested and rejected the call.

“It's unfortunate. Looks like everyone in this town has heard your news. No matter where you stand, they will certainly stay away from you or at least give distance when talking. Never mind, forget it. Now clean the bathrooms and windows throughout this building!”
