The Spurious' Choice (1)

'Hey... it's your boy, Impulse. Are you sure attacking the student council is the best course of action?'

You know it's bad when your own impulsivity is questioning your actions. But I said to myself; consequences be damned, I didn't do anything, yet why did Elios became like that?

Anger flooded my senses, all I could think of was getting revenge. And those who hide Kaiser from me, will suffer my wrath.

The student council members were gasping for air as I levitated them from their feet, sky blue energy enveloped their necks and mouths.

"Where is he? Where is that Son of a Bitch?!" I shouted and sent a pulse of energy, their eyes were overtaken by the same energy as the ones that is strangling them.

The voices from their heads are rushing towards me like a flood, all of them are saying the same thing:

'He's insane!'

'This guy's got a death wish.'

"Maybe you need more persuasion." I said and released another pulse of energy, some of them were now having bloody nostrils, while others were crying tears.

"WHERE. IS. HE!" I shouted as I forced them to tell me the truth.

Then I felt someone touch the back of my head, and I could feel the tingle of electricity.

"Let them go if you don't want your brain to be fried."

That voice... Diego? No... It sounded older and feminine.

"Not until they tell me where Kaiser is." I snapped.

"Noan I understand you're angry... But hurting them will not benefit you in any way." She said. "And I have the information you seek."

I still didn't like the idea of letting them go. Why should I let them go? They're complicit on Kaiser's abuse.

"Marc that's enough!" Eula's voice broke through and a calming feeling suddenly washes over me. The energy enveloping everyone, including my fists was dissipating. Every student councillors was gasping for air and were terribly shaking. Some fainted from the pressure I exuded.

"Let's go. Senior Narukami, please take care of the situation." Eula grabbed my hand and led me away, the older girl, who I assume was Diego's sister, stayed behind and took some kind of light apparatus.

"Where are you taking me?" I asked Eula.

"Somewhere safe, private, and secluded from the eyes of the school." Eula said in a matter of fact tone.

She was still leading me away from the office up to a secluded part of the Lune Building's Elevator Floor.

"Code Elevate, Delta Floor." Eula said at the Elevator's comms.

I didn't know we had a Floor Delta, but the elevator went to the right instead of going up. She then led me on and stopped in front of an electronic door marked by a mask of some sort. It was painted black and white.

"Access Identification required." The automized voice said.

"Code Judicator." Eula said and inserts her identification card.

"Welcome Miss Kresnik."

The door opened and we entered a white office. The installations were speced to accomodate a large number of students, the layout looked more like a hideout than a classroom. There were five pedestals at the center, as if a trophy case. Each rune-like symbol colored differently in the hues of blazing orange, vivid green, electrifying purple, lucid brown, and sea blue.

"We need you to stay here so you can calm down." Eula said. "What you did was reckless, not only did you barge in on the student council, you threatened them as well. Do you have any idea what you just did?"

I could only glare at Eula. How on earth is she going to understand how I feel?!

"Don't talk to me about what's right or wrong Eula... My brother didn't do anything to deserve this! Is it wrong for me to defend him?" I snapped.

"Well, I get where you're coming from but-"

"Eula, you're only doing more harm than good." The electronic door opened again, and this time, Blake, Diego, Vann, and the gray haired girl came in. Why are they all here?

"Yo Sea Pup! I heard you had fun withou-" Vann was about to make a crude joke when Blake covers his mouth. Blake knew, I could hear his thoughts... He knew I was on the brink of breaking.

"Marc... What did you do?" The gray haired girl asked, her turquiose eyes radiated fear and awe. Yet her voice was strained with concern and even terror.

"I did what I have to do. He promised me that if I lay low he won't touch Elios, then what the hell happened?!" I shouted at her and another wave of the strange aura washes over me. But did it became stronger?

This foreign feeling... calm? No, it's much more forceful. Restraint?

I traced the aura of where it's coming from, and to my surprise, it came from Eula. Her brown eyes glowing faintly, but subtle for me not to notice if I wasn't using my telekinesis. So her power is Empathy too? No, Keith's empathy can't force another emotion on a target.

"What do you want? Are you in league with Kaiser too?" I snapped.

"That's just hurtful Marc, I thought I made a lasting impression on you." Vann pouted and I shivered. He was always making me feel sick.

"Alencon, shut up. Anyway, to answer that, no. Well, technically, Phoebe is, but no." Diego mused at Phoebe who just shrugged.

"Hey, someone has to play the double agent role. And since Eula and I are the only ones who can pull that off." Phoebe said, so that's her name. But a memory resurfaces from my mind. An unpleasant one.

"You were the one that called Kaiser back at the Valley Building weren't you, when he was threatening me and Theodore? And those plants at our gate?" I asked and she only nods.

"I had to do it. I couldn't risk blowing my cover." Phoebe said in a monotonous voice, she's so direct I'll give her that. "Anyways, back to the matter at hand. Why did you do it? Because they hurt your brother? Talk about a shallow reason."

"Of course it was! Elios is lying in bed unconscious because of Kaiser! And how dare you call it shallow!" I snapped, the restraint aura was worsening. But I was fighting back now. What Phoebe is saying, it made me want to shut her up.

"Marc stop it. Stop resisting my power. You'll strain your mind if you keep it up!" Eula holds my arms, but I pulled away.

"Then stop using your power on me. It's disgusting! Forcing an emotion on another person. That's just barbaric!" I snarled at her and she flinched. Was I always this aggressive? No... Being forced to remain calm was making me do this.

"Marc, I get it. You're mad, but listen... It couldn't have been Kaiser." Phoebe said, tapping her head as if she doesn't want to get involved in the drama. "He isn't even here at school when you and Elios arrived."

"What do you mean?! Elios said that it was Kaiser! Are you calling my brother a liar?" My face was getting hot again, even with the restraint, I feel like I was about to erupt.

"I'm just saying that your brother might've mistook him as Kaiser. Plus, we heard from Lady Emma, Elios was under heavy subjugation. His memory wasn't at its best." Phoebe countered. "And here you are, making us do more work. Honestly, you're such a hassle. And you call yourself an older brother."

"Phoebe! That;s enough!" Blake shouted. "Marc... she didn't meant that."

"A hassle? Who asked your help huh?" I growled. Her bluntness was becoming condscending, and... What is this feeling? It wasn't annoyance nor was it aggravation. Was this... Hate? Yet another foreign emotion I'm not familiar with.

"As a matter of fact... You're also the reason why I got kidnapped last night. So can you give me a god damn explanation on what was that about?!" I snarled and somehow broke through Eula's Empathic influence. My hands began to exude sky blue energy and was spreading around me like a funnel cloud. "And don't give me some cliche bullshit of being a Double Agent!"

"Marc, stop!" Eula began but when I raised my hand, a shockwave of lightning zapped me at my back. I was semi-conscious enough to unleash a blast of psychokinetic energy that sent everyone flying. Every one of us was groaning in pain. With my sight and senses completely winded.

"Shit so that's how your enemies feel when they get sent flying." Vann shakes his head to remove his distortion.

"No kidding... That was some blast Noan..." Diego said, helping Eula up. "But not strong enough to knock any of us out."

"I'll restrain him. Any objections Blake?" Phoebe said as she gave me a disapproving look.

"You will do no such thing Maxwell." They were surprised by that voice, it was Lady Emma, trailing behind her was Diego's sister.

"That was one mess you made Noan. But at least you brought us some time. I'm Erika Narukami, Diego's older sister." Erika introduced herself as she performs a zapping defibrillator. Making my sight and senses come back. "Good to see you're calming down a bit."

"I know you have a lot of questions, but this group needs to apologize on what they did, say, and even reveal." Lady Emma glared at everyone but I shook my head.

"I don't need their apologies... I'm leaving." I got up and went for the door, but Blake blocked my path. "Step aside Mathis."

"Marc please... Hear us out. Let us explain." He said, his teal eyes begging me to stay.

"After taking me here? And being forced to feel and hear that it was necessary to let Kaiser... instill fear in me and harrass my brother like that? Blake... Do you honestly hear yourself now?" I told him off. "Whatever it is... Leave me and my brother out of it."

"Let him go." Lady Emma said, Blake wanted to protest but she gave him a warning look. "You had your chance to explain but it ended poorly. Noan, your brother is no longer in danger, but we sent him back to the Sylvanus Villa. Doctor Belforma and your ward is tending to him."

I thanked Lady Emma and ran back home. Ignoring the gaze of everyone around me and their thoughts. Seems like the rumors of Elios being targeted because of me has escalated further. But I only gave them a glare and they all trailed off.

I was so angry... Very angry... At Kaiser. At Phoebe. At Eula... At myself. Especially at myself. In front of the gate of the villa, I punched the wall and a psychokinetic blast takes the shock of the damage. But I didn't care about it. Why am I so pathetic?!

"You should hear me out."

I did a 360 to find Blake Mathis standing in front of me. I was about to tell him to fuck off but he bowed down to ground. I was appalled by his action, good thing the neighborhood is private.

"Please Marc..." He groveled on the ground.

"Get up Mathis. Stop doing that..." I dismissed his apology and opened the gate. "And you're not the one who you should apologize to me."

Blake stood up with a confused look and followed me inside the villa. The inside was dimly lit, I doubt Halcyon would do some shady business with Doc, but it seems they were sensible. But I could hear arguing by Elios' room. So I rushed towards the voices, was Elios all right?

"Straight." Halcyon asked both Elios and Doc. All three of them were playing cards by the bedside.

I take back what I said about them not doing anything shady. They all looked at me as if they were waiting for me to join.

"Y-young master?!"

"Big red!"

"Brat."

I smacked all of their heads with psychokinesis and they stopped playing with the cards. I was still fuming on Hal and Doc for making a patient play instead of resting.

"How're you feeling?" I asked Elios and he sighed.

"I would be lying if I said I don't feel anything." Elios smiled weakly. "I get these... Glimpses from time to time. And what's worse... My telekinesis got weaker."

"Weaker how?" I asked.

"It's like... I'm drained? Maybe a good night's rest will help me feel better." Elios smiled.

"E... Want me to memory walk into you? So we can figure out what happened?" I suggested.

"I would advise against that kid." Doctor Belforma was still kneeling down with his hands raised. Hal was crying beside him saying that he was just collateral.

"I was under a subjection ability Big Red. Who knows what kind of deep ugly trap they laid up there." Elios said.

"All the more reason for me to remove that!" I said but Doc grabs my shoulder and gave me a sympathetic look.

"Marc... if you walk inside his memories, you might damage Elios permanently. Do you want that?" Doc explained. "The Subjection he experienced was severe, even the doctors have to say it's a miracle Elios can still talk and see."

"Can you tell me what kind of Subjection he was under?" I asked Doc and Elios.

"You were under a Domination Ability, weren't you Elios?" Blake asked. "Your body wasn't responding to your actions, no matter how much you resisted?"

"I... Think? It was the first time I felt like that so I wouldn't know." Elios wondered.

Blake looked at me with a worried expression, as if telling me something is wrong.

"Doc. Marc. Can we talk privately?" Blake requested and Doc followed without muttering a word. I must admit I am curious to what Blake was about to say.

"E, I'll see what's up. Get some rest okay?" I told him and helped him lie down.

"Thanks... Marc? Can I... No nevermind, it's nothing." He smiled and easily fell to a deep slumber.

I crept out of his room and found Doc and Blake waiting for me.

"Okay talk. You two seem familiar with what is going on with my little brother." I said. "And no more hiding Mathis. For your sake."

"Then I should tell you something. Just, promise you won't get mad." Blake asked while taking a step backward.

"Stop with the foreplay and get to the point." I snapped.

"Kaiser wasn't the one who did this. It's just impossible. And let me go over how his powers work." Blake raised his hands before I started shouting again.

"Kaiser can copy powers, that much is true. But its limited to only things that he can see and touch. Things like Telepathy and Empathy for example, are impossible for him." Blake surmised. "And there's also the fact that Kaiser isn't here at School, he left earlier this morning to a meeting in Ros Ursa."

"Okay... say I believe you. Then what? My brother is here and hurt. What do you want me to do? Pretend like this never happened?! And how are you sure that it wasn't one of Kaiser's posse?!" I considered those facts but Blake shakes his head.

"Diego's sister already did a background check. It wasn't one of Kaiser's men. I can't disclose this information because of reasons I can't disclose as well. But believe me Marc, we'll handle this mess about Elios." Blake's voice was filled with sincerity.

"I can't." I said plainly.

"Marc!" Blake began but Doc stops him.

"Give him a chance to explain. Marc... you know in your mind that Blake's telling the truth." Doc said and I nod. As much as I don't want to believe it, my telepathy confirms as much. Blake is being truthful.

"I can't just let you handle my problems. This involved my brother, that means it involves me as well. And I can't just remain as the apologetic weakling you saw last monday." I said while maintaining eye contact. "If you have a plan against this. Count me in."

"Marc... we can't just simply let a random student into our ranks. There's a screening, and a simulations. Doc, talk him out of it." Blake looked at Doctor Belforma and he just shakes his head.

"The Boss told all of us that Marc is one of the few candidates. He already passed the screening. All he needs to do is the Simulation right?" Doc told Blake and then he turned to me.

"I would be lying if I said that you'll be a frequent visitor to my office Marc, considering the job Blake and the others are doing. Plus... You'll have to abandon your identity for the majority of this job. Do you still accept it?" Doc asked.

"If I accept, will it make me strong enough to treat Elios?" I asked.

"You could... But it will be more effective if we transfer him to St. Binah in -"

"No. That will never happen." I immediately said. Not with them. And certainely not with that place. "I got Elios into this place. I will cure him myself."

Doc and Blake both stared at me and sighed.

"If you're that determined... I won't stop you. Any objections, president?" Doc asked.

"None. Marc Callahan Noan." Blake hands me a calling card of some sort, the same card the Headmaster handed me a while back. "You have three weeks to practice. The simulation test is a sparring session. You are either going to fight with the other potential candidates, or against the current members."

"Current members of what?" I asked.

"You'll know of us if you pass as one of our members. Good luck and... Take care of Elios." Blake said and leave our home.

"I'll accompany Mathis. And Noan... I want you to do something for me. It will be beneficial for you and Elios. But... It will mean that Elios might hate you for it." Doctor Belforma's words sounded serious.

"I'm all ears." I said.

"Convince Elios to go home to the Noan Orphanage. That way... you don't have to risk Kaiser or anyone else from hurting him."
