''I handed over a hundred bucks and a wristwatch before I entered my cell,'' Greg told the prison warder with a clear tone.

The thick-set, boisterous male warder shot Greg a knowing look and returned to what he was doing.

''Mr Seiko, sir. I am referring to you,'' Greg insisted after staring at the warder for a split second.

''Oh, because you are being released, you think I cannot smack you in the face with my baton? You better choose between your freedom and a damn wristwatch,'' Seiko told Greg.

Greg clenched his teeth and walked away from the warder's office without taking back his surrendered items.

''See you soon Greggy boy. Please try to attack another person wealthier than your scraggy ass so that you can bring another wristwatch for me,'' Seiko yelled at Greg as he put on Greg's wristwatch with a cruel smirk.

Greg turned around to look at the warder just in time to see him putting on the wristwatch.

''Filthy cunt'' Greg whispered as he turned back around and walked out of prison.

The fresh air that hit Greg as soon as he stepped out of prison was unexpected, so he closed his eyes to bask in it.

*Poom poom*

The sound of a car horn interrupted the moment of solitude that he was enjoying.

Greg squinted at the old model BMW that pulled up in front of him, and he recognized his best friend, Pedro.

''Greggy boy,'' Pedro yelled excitedly and stepped out of the car to hug an equally excited Greg.

''Peddy,'' Greg yelped and hugged his friend.

''I was not expecting you. I was not sure you got my message because I know how much of an asshole these damn warders could be,'' Greg told Pedro with a final handshake.

''Ah. I got it, man. I was going to travel to sun city today but I had to move my trip when some Seiko man called to tell me that you will be released,'' Pedro replied.

Greg adjusted angrily at the mention of Seiko's name. Seiko had just stolen his watch, alongside a hundred dollars.

''Oh, yes. I listed you as my contact to inform you of my release. I didn't know the prison system still worked. So they called you? Wow,'' Greg said.

''Yup. Seiko called me,'' Pedro replied.

''Fuck Seiko,'' Greg said and got into the car. ''Take me straight to Laura's house. I bet it would be such a surprise for her when she sees me free and above our enemies,'' he added, tapping Pedro's shoulder with excitement and anticipation.

Pedro looked out of the window in a bid to hide the sudden drop of energy that hit him.

Greg looked at his best friend closely as he hit the highway into the city.

''What is it, Pedro?'' Greg asked with a cold tone. ''What happened to Laura? Is she okay?'' he asked.

''Yes. Laura is fine,'' Pedro replied and exhaled the pressure he felt out of his nostrils.

''Okay? So, take me to her house,'' Greg insisted.

''Greg, she doesn't live there anymore,'' Pedro replied.

''Where does she live now? It's been three years. She always complained about her house. Good to hear that she's finally been able to move out,'' Greg said.

Pedro scoffed.

''You don't get it, do you?'' he asked. ''Laura has moved on,'' he added.

''Moved on to where? Another city? I will move with her,'' Greg replied.

''Laura is getting married today. Her wedding is likely going on as we speak,'' Pedro dropped the bomb on Greg.

Time stopped.

''What did you just say, Peddy? I spoke to Laura...'' Greg was saying when he realized that for the last six months of his time in jail, Laura had been unavailable.

''You spoke to Laura when?'' Pedro asked Greg, glancing at him with pity.

''Who is she getting married to?'' Greg asked with anger. His eyes glared.

''Who the fuck is she getting married to? Let's see how far that wedding goes today. Where is the venue as well? That wedding is not going to hold. Not when I am out of jail. The bastard is unlucky, he should have married her since I was locked up. Now, I'm out. He can't have my girlfriend anymore. No way,'' Greg ranted.

''She's getting married to Damien Ban,'' Pedro told Greg and shifted his gaze to him gently.

''What?'' Greg screamed.

Three years ago, Greg and Laura went out on a date to an expensive restaurant. His business was booming at the time, so he could afford to wine and dine with the elite in the city. Laura excused herself to use the restroom, but because she wasted too much time in there, Greg went to see what was keeping her, only for him to see Damien Ban trying to force himself on her. A furious Greg attacked Damien, and in the end, got thrown in jail because Damien was richer and more powerful than him. Now, Laura was getting married to this Damien Ban that threw Greg in jail all because of her.

''Yup, Greg. Laura started dating him soon after you left for jail. I tried to stop her. I questioned her on one or two occasions, but I could not do more than my power because I didn't want to end up in jail as well,'' Pedro explained.

''I don't understand. But I had been speaking with Laura from jail. I have been speaking with you as well. I sent you messages, and you returned some of them. Why didn't you tell me that she was dating someone else already? My arch enemy for that matter,'' Greg complained.

''Greggy. You didn't expect me to tell you that sort of sad news while you were in jail, right? I thought of telling you, but it was bad enough that you were in jail. I didn't want you to lose your mind out of depression,'' Pedro said to Greg in a solemn tone.

''I advise that you forget about her,'' he added.
