Money without Power is useless

Christian~~~~

The events of yesterday replayed in my head countless times as I remembered how close I was to dying again. It worked out in my favour as I gained a strong ally, but it was another one of the many close calls I've had with death and it's beginning to irk me a lot.

I already knew the people who wanted me dead but I can't do anything about that for now. If even one of them dies, I'll be blamed with good reason and I could end up losing everything. The fact that I'm powerless against them just makes me want to expand my influence even more.

Now I understand what rich people mean when they say money without power is basically useless. I am as rich as Audrey now if not richer, but I'm still powerless against him because of his influence.

"I need power."

"You don't get that by sitting on your ass and reading papers all day," Donna said with amusement in her voice. She was sitting in the chair opposite my table and reading through some papers. She seems to have fit into the role of a PA quite well.

I cocked an eyebrow. "What?"

"You don't get power by being cooped up in here all day," she repeated.

"How do you know that?" I asked in confusion. I was sure I only thought about it.

"You were thinking out loud," she smiled. "Are you that worried that you didn't even realize it?"

"Well, I didn't," I replied. "And aren't you a little too comfortable? This isn't even your office."

"Don't mistake things, stud," she smiled. "Your assassination is still very much on since I haven't gotten my money yet. I'm only giving you time to get it ready."

"Then why are you reading my papers?" I asked.

"You wanted a PA, right?" she asked looking back at the paper. "I'm only doing the job of one."

"Well, good," I replied as I also got back to work.

"I'm beginning to question why you bought this company though," she asked. "Yes, they are making a ton of profit, but there's been so much embezzlement in the company that it's almost going bankrupt. Isn't this a bad deal?"

"I didn't buy this company for a profit," I informed her as I picked up a photograph.

"Then, why?" she asked looking up, but I said nothing as my expression got darker. The hatred and anger were evident in my eyes as I stared at the photograph of Laura in another man's arms.

"Oh," she smiled. "Revenge, huh? Did it satisfy you?"

"Surprisingly, no," I replied coldly. "I really thought it would. I am making Gabe cough up all the money he embezzled and ripping him clean of everything he ever had, but Laura....."

"What about her?"

"I don't know what to do with her?" I sighed. "She had no idea what I went through and even now she still has no idea. All she lost was her job and her rich boyfriend. Nothing else. I lost myself because of her. I lost everything when she left and she still hasn't known what it feels like to lose everything because of one person."

"That's a pretty precarious situation," Donna sighed. "But I don't think I have any ideas that might help you at the moment. I'm an assassin so I can only give you twisted ideas."

"Say it," I ordered.

She paused to look me in the eyes and then proceeded to shake her finger in my face. "You have no right to order me as you are not my master. You have neither bought nor earned my submission. Be polite."

"Fine," I sighed. "Please, tell me."

Good," she smiled before giving me a mischievous grin. "Did you ever think you would be asking an assassin for love advice?"

"It's not love advice," I corrected her. "It's revenge. Now get to it."

She paused again and stared at me in silence.

"Please."

"Good," she smiled. "Make her your slave."

"What?" I asked. "Slave? How is that possible?"

"Does she have a family that might go searching for her?" she asked.

"None that I know of."

"Does she have friends?"

"I don't know but many people hate her."

"Would you be a suspect if she disappears?"

"Probably," I shrugged.

She grinned at that. "What if she does that at her own will? Will anyone care?"

"I'm not sure what you mean," I said. "How does this make her my slave?"

"You want to hurt her, don't you?" she smiled.

"Yes?"

"I would have suggested that I take care of it, but your expression already says no."

"Yes, I want to hurt her more emotionally than physically."

"Then what hurts a human more than absolute loneliness and hatred from the only person who knows of your existence?" she grinned, this time a lot more gleefully. Now I understand how twisted she is.

"Are you saying I should abduct her and treat her like a slave?" I asked.

"Exactly," she clapped. "Except, I'm not asking you to treat her like a slave."

"What?"

"I'm asking you to make her your slave."

"How is that possible?" I asked. "You know-"

"What?" she cut me off. "Society? Rules? Right or wrong? Isn't that why you abducted her in the first place? Take her to an environment where you become God. Where your rules are absolute and your word is the law. A place where your actions are divine and unquestionable, and you dictate right or wrong. A place completely free from the shackles of society and where you are the society."

"Wow," I couldn't help but say. "That's not a bad idea. Infact, it's great."

"But, there's a catch," she grinned. "It's addictive. When you become God, you slowly lose your humanity and you struggle with maintaining the balance. That means wanting more subjects, or hating the shackles of society when you have to abide by them. This has also led to problems before but if you can handle it then it's fine."

"I will handle it," I said. "I'm going to do this."

She smiled at that. "Then make sure to become her god."
