Chapter 23 (rewritten)

Since we were born with the ability to feel the dead in such an obvious style, spirit speed was a basic standard for us to evaluate their demonic power. Or, briefly speaking, their ‘ranks’.

There were plenty of ways to determine how strong a spirit was, such as the way it attacked you, its understanding of its own death, or the lust. But all of them were time-consuming and inefficient as hell, especially for the investigators like me. You know, in a case where the victim still waited for help, who would let you spend all day long asking those spirits about that? Then checking their physical features was another solution, and one way was judging their speed.

It was the academic knowledge for young devil raisers. And after years of learning with effort, I can summarize it in one sentence: the faster they were, the stronger they were.
