"Normal," Demetrius replied in a monotone voice, betraying the fact that the topic was a sensitive one for him. It seemed that no matter how good or bad others treated him, he did not show any particular reaction, as if he were a robot programmed to keep his emotions in check.

As they were nearing the school, Demetrius suddenly spoke up. "Can you drop me off at the bank?" he asked.

Macey looked at him quizzically. "The bank? What do you need to do there?" she asked.

"Just some work," Demetrius replied evasively, not giving any further explanation.

"Okay, no problem. I'll drop you off there," she said, she decided not to push the matter.

As they pulled up to the curb, Demetrius quickly got out of the car without looking back to say goodbye. It seemed as though Demetrius didn't want any more contact with her, and that even going to school with her was a reason why he wanted to get out of the car halfway.
