003: A World Of Talents

“Our world is a world of talents, there are factors and manifestations of existence, a breeding ground of concepts and arcane bliss. But until the system came and gave quantification to those things…. Gave them form and substance as the cards we now use today to grow stronger and to live.

With that arrival, we learnt of higher tiers and realms of power, we grew, we expanded and we thrived. Cards are the foundation of every man, born and shaped by the individual’s bloodline or talent. But I’m sure these are all things that you know. Some men are born with a talent, some with a bloodline and some lucky few with both.

Cards the manifestation of all reality are now used to create decks, of which there can only be 3 and each deck can only have a maximum of 12 cards and your Card cradle can only ever hold up to a minimum of 30 cards to a maximum of 50 Cards. Cards can upgrade other cards, improving their abilities and adding more stats to the deck master.

There are many types of cards, and while there are at least 72 documented card types and the decks they make based on potential combinations, and individuals are as numerous as there are stars in the sky. So it’s almost impossible to plan for a fight against a deck master. But never the less, each decks are unique to their masters and it is almost impossible for any two decks to be the same even if the process of gathering and compiling the decks are the same.

Cards are divided into the Common, Uncommon, Rare, Epic, and Legendary, Mythic and Divine Tiers or ranks. And each rarity gives a master a certain amount of stats. Common gives 1 to 5 stats to any particular stat, and their bonuses only extends to a single stat. uncommon gives 5 to 10 to a single or two stats. Rare gives 10 to 15 stats to a single stat or spread amongst three stats. I’m sure you can fill in the math from there, however things get completely random from the legendary to Divine ranks, but that is not something you need to worry about.

Now if you don’t mind I’d like you to pay attention to this illustration here” and so it went on for the next three days. Tyrone had knowledge forced down his throat. Some of it were things he was already conversant about, but more often than not Seguin was plugging holes in his knowledge as he corrected a lot of misconceptions on Tyrone’s part.

If Tyrone had to be honest, he quite enjoyed his sessions with the general. He was stoic through it all, but Tyrone Could not help but feel as if right at the edge of the strictness was an amused individual who was also having a good time teaching. Or it could just be an illusion designed to get Tyrone to let down his guard, so he would still have to be extra careful.

But even with his ever increasing Vigilance, Tyrone was a receptacle of knowledge. Eating everything that Segun had to teach. He learnt everything from science to mathematics, building up upon the foundation and knowledge he already had. He learnt social graces and the norms and cultures of his society’s high elite.

He learnt how to be more graceful, how to move with poise and how to listen and pick out the nuances in the words if a noble. He was taught how to listen, how to blend and how to hide. Then he was taught about dungeons, taught about the monsters within and in the wild that could drop shards for cards or hell even completed cards themselves.

Then he learnt just how messed up the situation in the capital was. As he was the last of the main line, the 6 other branches of the family were all lobbying to have a main heir of their line on the throne. But the problem was that that only two of that line had a close enough tie to the main branch that can seat on the throne.

And for all intents and purposes they were all supposed to have come to a conclusion about who was supposed to seat on the throne. But rumors of a missing prince for the last twenty years have and has been what has kept everyone at bay. But twenty years is a long time and by now the people themselves have made the demand…. They wanted ruler, they wanted a king.

Ultimately Tyrone got as much knowledge and understanding of his situation as he could get from Segun. after what Segun called the assimilation and understanding of the basics, it was now time for them to study and break down his own stat page, not ,much information would be given especially as he has not been able to reach level 10 yet. But they could reevaluate his cards and then try to get him new, more powerful and rarer cards that would serve as a foundation for his future decks.

Plus in order to do that they would also have to push him to level 10, which meant that he would be undergoing supervised dungeon diving and training in order to make sure that he was at least half as competent on the battlefield as he would be in court. And that if Tyrone had to be honest was what he dreaded the most.

“Your stats are the very personif8cation and understanding of yourself and what you are capable of. It will improve and it would never lie to you. But having the system and its interface is not enough to make you an all-powerful person. But it will tell you and show you just how much progress you have made and point you in the right direction, plus it is what helps us all connect to ancient armaments and lodestones…. But that is a lesson for another day. Now call up your stat sheet and tell me what you see.”

Tyrone nodded his head as he took a deep breath and willed his stat screen to pop up in front of him. Normally he would have been able to show his stat page to anyone, but that was not something he would be capable of until he reaches level 10, so for now he would just have to dictate it all.

The unfortunate thing, if Tyrone had to be honest, probably had to be the fact that until level ten none of the cards he has in his possession would be giving any stats to him, and beyond that too, it was not possible for him to have more than one active card and two passive cards slotted. At least not without a deck and frankly speaking while he had some good cards, they were not yet at the position to become decks, not to mention he needed twelve cards to make a deck.

Segun postured, at least that was what Tyrone thought he was doing g as the man looked at his exposed sheet. This was the truth as Cole did not have a card able to disguise his stat sheet. The older man nodded his head as he came to a conclusion.

“For a street rat you have done well for yourself. With the way the cards are slotted I see that you are making sure your cards have some synergy, and given the line of work you have chosen for yourself I would say that you have done quite well. Either way your stats are basic as are some of the cards. You will have to get rid of some of the, if not all of them, taking time to level them up would be a waste when you can and will have access to higher ranked cards up till the rare rank, anything beyond that you will have to procure for yourself.”

Tyrone did not agree wholeheartedly with what Segun had said, prompting them both to fall into an argument as he did not want to give up any of hid cards. They were the very basis of his current identity and what he had used to look after his crew. But all of that arguments were completely ignored by Segun as he stated that most if not any of the cards at all he had in his possession were fit for a Prince.

But Tyrone was adamant, he really did not want to give up any of his cards so they had to come to a compromise. He would be allowed to keep only three of his cards that at the moment he would also prioritize leveling up, and from Segun’s choice it was the cards he had slotted, the rest of them had to go.

Making such a choice also made it a little hypocritical as Segun had said that he wanted Tyrone to gain better cards. Now he was saying Tyrone would have to focus on upgrading those cards. But there was nothing to be done about it, Segun had spoken his piece and he expected Tyrone to follow up with it. Either way it was all to prepare him for the next stage of his rapid teaching…… DUNGEON DIVING!
