006: Hunting

Tyrone grunted as he burst forwards, however instead of moving in a straight line towards the two approaching beasts, he moved quickly to the left his body hugging the wall as the first salvo of spines went flying nowhere close to hitting his body. He noticed the second aiming at him, as he pushed off the wall moving a zig zag pattern as the next set of spines went past him.

The first beast had already rushed him by this point, its jaws opened wide as it wanted to take a chunk out of Tyrone’s thigh. [Slipstream] was activated as Tyrone moved a little bit faster, his form moving as he stabbed the longsword forwards and straight into the unsuspecting mouth of the beast that had leapt at him.

The short sword flew out of his hands a moment later, however his aim was off due to not being familiar with the weight of the weapon. The handle smashed into the nose of the beast, causing it to give a squeal of pain as it came to a halt, rubbing its paws over its nose multiple times and it squealed softly. Tyrone unceremoniously pulled his longsword out then took a step forward to stab it in between the eyes of the final beast just as it raised its head up.

Tyrone took a couple of steps back, his chest heaving as he struggled to catch his breath, but he knew better than to get relaxed as he looked around noticing a couple of other beasts heading his way from a distance. The hallway he seemed to have found himself was almost a kilometer long, and filled with small groups of monsters along the way in either direction.

He had at most about three minutes before the first of them would get to him, so in that time he quickly rushed towards the bodies of the beasts that he has slain. He placed a hand on each of them, waiting for the prompt that has always come up whenever anything of significant cognitive functioned died.

[Loot Lesser Tuskupine(C) x4]

[You have gained Bush Meatx8, +8 Pieces of Spike Shot Card Fragment (8/100), 1 Equipment Card]

Tyrone did not waste any more time, apart from the card fragments he did not have any inventory card of his own, and so the rest of the loot had been deposited on the ground. He quickly picked it up and rushed back into the safe zone. He might seem like he was in quite the hurry to get more power, but the journey to the top was not a sprint, it was a marathon.

Plus If Tyrone had to be honest his first fight with the Tuskupine did not turn out as well as he had expected. With all of his experience on the streets and everything else, Tyrone had expected that perhaps he would be able to deal with the beasts within the depths of this dungeon, but from the look of things he still had quite a ways to go.

He stuffed the meat into the backpack he had with him and settled in the safe zone. He would be moving out any moment from now so it didn’t matter much. He took a look over his stat sheet takin notice of the fact that contrary to the others that Segun had given, he still had his [perceptive] skill card, and perhaps it was a bit of rebellion on his part, but it was still an ace in the hole.

Tyrone switched it with his [Sense Magic] card. He had not sense any form of magic from the Tuskupines he fought, which meant that there was no need for it. And it did not look as if there were any traps set within the dungeon so he guessed he was pretty much up against this things in a straight up fight.

It was also extremely helpful that they were all somewhat predictable, so it would not take too much for Tyrone to face them, as long as he is not fighting more than two or three at a time, he would be able to clear this section of the dungeon before the beasts would be respawned….. Or at the very least he was hoping so. Never the less he had an equipment card that he had to check out.

Equipment cards were just as rare as full fledge cards, perhaps even rarer as the equipment gained from the cards are always unlike the ones being made outside. For example even with common cards, all equipment gained from those skill cards would have a special ability or skill of their own.

Only weapons of a higher rating made by people could even hope to come close to achieving the same level of power. So finding an equipment card had more than made Tyrone’s day. It was imperative that he gained as much help as he could possible get in order to survive this dungeon and get to level 10.

[Equipment Card: Ragged Spine Jacket(C-III)/ +3 To Body, +1 to Mind/ Skill: Sharp Stimuli (turn body hair into sharp spines that will attack any enemy within a 20 centimeter radius every time you take damage! 30s Cool down)]

There was also still the locked to level 10 message, but Tyrone still put it on anyways. Even without the stat boosts and the fact that the jacket looked like it had been skinned off the back of a tuskupine and absolutely reeked to the high heavens, this was still a lifesaving equipment and the spines at the back of the jacket could definitely save him from a shot to the back.

With that done he raised his head and looked outside the safe zone. There was a trio of tuskupines waiting for him, their countenance and demeanor as frantic as the first one that had chased him all the way to this place the first time around. It was a fight they were looking for, and as it stands it was a fight that Tyrone was ready to give, none the less it was time to fight once again.

The Old Kingdom Of Ounyi Idu

Capital City: Yadrin

The Regent

The regent was a little bit annoyed, and while he was not able to fully express that annoyance, his stupid pawn was two weeks late till when he was supposed to arrive in the capital. He knew of course this was just Segun trying to spite him, as the old fool was taking his time before they arrived at the capital.

There wasn’t much the Regent could do about that either, he had handed the boy over to the general of the (Iri) for his education and protection. It was a calculated risk relinquishing his control over the (Iri) just to make sure he has the boy in the palm of his hands. And they would also protect him from the other branches until he was strong enough to do so, but even then the regent was worried.

People from the streets were a whole other breed, and while he knew the boy would never be able to measure up to everyone else who have been politically inclined and trained from a young age. He knew tenacity and the unwillingness to let life decide what he or she would be comfortable with…. The eyes of a fighter ready to adapt and grow just so that they could survive. The regent could recognize that look because at one point it was also his look, a street kid that clawed and fought his way to the very heights of power.

Never the less the boy was not a threat at the moment, but he would not underestimate the value of the boy, especially the support his very existence would garner from the common people. Just in case he would put a few contingencies in place, the kingdom had survived 20+ years without a member of the direct royal bloodline to seat on the throne……there’s nothing wrong with them surviving an eternity without a king…. He would give, take and do anything just to keep his power, he did not care for no prince or any royal family…. He is their king! It was just unfortunate that the people didn’t know it yet… but soon they will.
