Alastair opened his eyes as the dreamscape faded. For many nights that had passed, he could consider that the best dream he had had. Miranda's presence was like honey to his mind and the intimacy they shared in the dreamscape was something they both needed. But he could not help but wonder how disturbed and stressed out she was. He wished he could do something to help her, at least take the burden off her shoulders a little. But there was little or nothing he could do, not unless they used powerful magic to bind their minds and let Alastair take control like last time. That was not even certain to work for the distance between them was so great even the connection would snap.Alastair heard a cock crow from a distance and sighed. The little room he had been sleeping in slowly began to brighten up as the rays of the morning sun hit the windows. The first warm ray that fell on Alastair's face burned away his worries and when he stood up, he discovered Fristborn was in the room with him
Cara struck the wood with the last energy she had and fell. She groaned as she took deep breaths. Her legs were shaking from the amount of pressure on her body. It was already evening and throughout the day, she had been training. She did not get any meal and the only thing Alastair offered was a few drops of water on an hourly basis. He was being a devil! Cara could not understand why she needed to train so hard and so intensely. It was not her fault that she could not remember everything he had said back at the last training session. Could anyone even remember everything they were taught?"If you do not remember my words from a few days ago, then how do you expect to remember the spells I will teach you?"Alastair had fumed when she complained it was impossible."Have you ever seen me use a grimoire? As a mage, your spells are a part of you. You must remember every little detail about it, e every procedure documented, every expected result. You are not a common mage, you are destin
Dark shadows crept from the woods toward the house, taking care not to tip off the prey they had come to collect. The shadows growled softly as they moved, taking precedence before they lay up beside the door and listened. It was silent inside. There was no spoon clanking, neither was there any noise being made. Perhaps he had already gone to sleep? That would make it overly better and easier for them to do their job. The shadows retreated as a large one suddenly hurled towards the door and knocked it down. The door came down with a loud bang, making the little girl inside jump up and help. But when she saw the true form of the shadows, she screamed even more. They stood like men but they were actually wolves. They were large and had long sharp claws, and the black fur which covered their skin seemed like it had been soaked in something oily.Alastair quickly got up and made an energy orb which he held in his hand. The creatures stood, all four of them, and gazed at him. There was som
Cara dashed through the woods as she tried to catch a glimpse of what was happening inside the house. Fristborn followed her closely, looking over his shoulder as he did. She kept running until she tripped and fell, bruising her knee in the process."Ah!"She cried out as she fell, her eye almost getting pierced by a twig."Are you alright?" Fristborn asked her and helped her stand. She cursed and mumbled inaudible words as she stood up."We should go back for him. Alastair is in danger and we should not run away. It feels like we are leaving him behind." Cara said and sniffled. Fristborn cupped her face reassuringly."We are not. He ordered us to leave. Those creatures back there were faster and stronger than what we have ever fought in this plane. They were like demons. We do not know what they are exactly and until we do, it is unwise for us to go back looking for trouble. When the time is right, I believe Alastair will send us a signal. We just have to wait." Fristborn said and sh
Fristborn and Cara followed the man who had introduced himself as Ben as he combed through the woods. He was their only chance of helping Alastair and the fact that he has Alastair's face was something Cara could not comprehend. Were they brothers? Alastair never spoke of having a brother. Was it just a resemblance? They couldn't tell. They just had to get Alastair first and then perhaps other things will follow."Come on, we need to be quick about this," Ben whispered and took a turn, going left. A large owl flew past him, startling him for a moment and making him curse. He shot a quick glance at Cara and Fristborn who kept observing him like he was some thief. Ben scoffed."I do not appreciate those eyes. Why don't we change the expression?" He asked them"We did not do anything wrong. Or is it a crime to look?" Cara asked him."You, young lady are very rude. You must work on that tongue of yours. Do you not wish to find a husband someday?" Ben asked. Cara was about to reply when F
It was...him. Alastair gazed at the man who was a striking replica of him and wondered if his eyes were deceiving him. The man stood on the spot and kept on grinning, something which the Werewolves found very offensive. The leader of the Werewolves stepped forward and even from his walks, you could see spite and anger all over him."You, bloody thief. I was wondering why you-him was so different. He isn't a worm like you are. He is much more headstrong. Where is the egg?" The man asked but Alastair's doppelganger feigned deafness."I can't hear you clearly. Could you walk closer? That would be much appreciated." He yelled. The Werewolf scoffed at his audacity."Where is my fucking egg?" He yelled but the other man nodded."Oh, that? I'm sorry but I used it. It did not give me the desired results though. Are you sure it was original? It did not seem like it was." The doppelganger added and that made the Werewolves growl."But you can let him go now. He is not a part of our fight. Truth
Ben led the way and maintained his usual high spirit as they trudged through the woods. They could still hear the howling of the werewolves from the distance but Alastair was quite certain the Werewolves would not find them, at least not yet. He was using a spell to mask their smell from the Werewolves. He knew about their extremely good sense of smell. Perhaps that could buy them some time."Tell me more about your mother and her illness," Alastair said to Ben while he glanced over his shoulder to make sure that Cara and Fristborn were still there. Cara would be the death of him."Well, she has the Hunter's disease. Have you ever heard of it?" Ben asked Alastair who shook his head. Ben was surprised Alastair said no. He was expecting a yes from someone who seemed to be at the peak of knowledge."Some say it is a curse from the gods. You suddenly begin to develop sores that will not heal. It brings excruciating pain and I almost feel like dying whenever I see my mother in such pain."
"Werewolves, they've found us!"Cara said as she dashed through the door. She was almost breathless and Alastair could hear the growls of the Werewolves already. He had expected them to catch up eventually but not that fast. How were they able to elude his spell? "Go, get Fristborn. We are leaving this place immediately." Alastair said to Cara who turned around to go get him, but suddenly, the main door crashed down and Werewolves jumped inside. Cara screamed as they did, causing Alastair to quickly pull her away from harm's way and shoot a telekinetic blast at the Werewolf closest to Fristborn. The Werewolf slammed against the wall but another quickly came inside.By that time, Fristborn had joined them in the room and Alastair closed the door. More and more Werewolves hurled in and began to bang on the door. They banged with all their might and with everything they had. Alastair placed a magic shield on the door to buy them some time."Is there any other way out?" Alastair asked B
