40. Visiting General Store
"Rest in peace, Madam Offrenda," Nash said, placing a daisy on her grave and bowing his head in prayer. Shein stood beside him, still sobbing uncontrollably. Nash knew they couldn't keep Madam Offrenda's body out in the open for too long, so he immediately dug a hole and buried her. It was then that Shein realized that Madam Offrenda's words about sleeping forever were true.

Despite only just finding a motherly figure in Madam Offrenda, Shein was once again left alone. "Am I really a jinxed child?" she thought to herself. "Is that why I've always been someone else's slave and alone?"

Lost in her negative thoughts, Shein felt a gentle pat on the top of her head. She looked up to see Nash still facing forward. "What's wrong, Nas?" she asked.

Nash turned and looked at the girl with puffy eyes. "It's fine. I think you're blaming yourself for what happened."
