Unease

The moment the tires of the RV crossed into town, Eddie felt something prickle under his skin.

Faint alarm bells went off in his head, and they got stronger as they made way to their new home. Beside hime, Addie had stopped talking, noticing the way he had stiffened.

"Is something the matter?" she asked, which brought Brayden's attention. David, who had traded places with Brayden driving the RV, looked up as well.

Only Tric said nothing, as she turned on her side, and slept, the blankets up to her ears.

"It's probably nothing." Eddie tried to assure, but there was something there. Something he couldn't pinpoint, and if he was in his wolf form, his hairs would be standing on end.

David hit the brakes then, causing everyone to lurch forward, and Tric fell off the bed, swearing as she landed on her back.

"What the fuck David?" Tric yelled, rubbing the back of her head, as she got up.

"We have a problem." David said in a tight voice, and Eddie got up then, staring out the car window.

A tall guy stood there, with shaggy black hair, and ebony skin. He was still, standing at 6'5, and his eyes met Eddie's head on, a strange silver blue.

"Fucking m****a." Eddie cursed, as he somehow knew that this was the leader of the rival pack. Everyone walked up behind him, Brayden for once serious, and Addie, and Tric waiting.

And then the guy snapped his fingers, other people stepping forward.

Two more guys stepped forward, flanking the first on his left and right, two girls stepping up from behind. The leader smirked, and that's what triggered it; the need to defend what was his.

Eddie rushed out of the RV, not even saying anything as he charged at the leader, the girls jumping forward, and forcing him back.

Addie, and Tric wasted no time then, shielding Eddie from them both, and the tensions rose even higher. The leader broke through, walking past his pack, and standing just shy from Addie and Tric.

"Now, now, this is no way to welcome the new alpha." he said, and Eddie zeroed in on him, focusing on the leader only.

"We heard about Alpha Isan's passing which was so unfortunate." he said, and a warning look came off of Tric. "But we see he chose you to take over."

Eddie glared at him, and the leader let out a laugh.

"Where are my manners, Eddie? You don't even know a thing about us, you were simply thrown into our world like it was nothing. Former Alpha Isan should have taught you more at least." He said, Tric letting out a warning sound.

"Calm your pack, Alpha Eddie." he said.

"Who the hell are you?" Eddie asked, again, zeroing in on the leader and only the leader.

"My name is Alpha Joseph Ares. And this is my pack, twins Jason and Mason," he said, pointing at the two guys with wavy brown hair, and hazel eyes. They stare at David and Brayden, and Eddie can't really tell which twin is which. "that's Geneva Zoell," Joseph said as he pointed at the strawberry blonde with green eyes, "and last but not least, Viviana." he finished, nodding his head to the girl with long braids that had purple streaks in them.

"What do you want?" David interrupted, scowling at the twins. His body was tensed, muscles flexed as he was bracing himself to fight.

"Now, now, I know you're all eager to speak for your new alpha, but this really concerns only me and him." And then he came close, leaning towards him so only Eddie could hear.

"Leave. This place is ours. You wouldn't want anything to happen to Lucas?"

Eddie saw red, and he grabbed Joseph by the front of his shirt, pulling him forward. Joseph stumbled, but he smirked, the rest of his pack moving in motion.

Eddie's pack responded, forcing them back.

"What the fuck did you just say? Where's Lucas? How do you know about him? Talk, dammitt." Eddie yelled in Joseph's face.

Joseph continued to smile, not even looking the least bit worried.

His smile was pissing off Eddie the most, and Eddie swung on his face, triggering an all out attack from Joseph's pack.

They tackled each other, Joseph finally responding as he moved to defend from Eddie's blows, and started hitting back.

There was power in those shared blows, and Eddie was so focused on Joseph, he didn't notice when a sixth person walked in, trying to calm the commotion.

But Eddie recognized the voice, and when he pulled back from Joseph, his stomach dropped.

There stood Lucas, with dark circles under his eyes as if he hadn't slept well. He wore a loose orange t-shirt, and faded colored pants, with his usual sneakers.

Eddie was stunned, but more than that, he was relieved. He took a staggering step towards Lucas, and that's when Joseph decided to strike.

A fist caught Eddie in the jaw, hard enough to where Eddie saw stars, and heard popping noises, and he fell to the ground,  seeing through tunnel vision as Joseph placed a hand on Lucas's shoulder and pulled him away.

"Listen to my warning Eddie. The worst is yet to come."

Back in Sacramento...

Alicia could feel her eyes threatening to tear up as Wynn and Diveen opened up the portal, the strong smell of flowers hitting her in the face. She wasn't use to the Fae life anymore, and the smells proved it; no longer did she deeply inhale the smell of honeysuckle, as it caused her breathing to be unbearable, a headache pounding behind her eyes.

"Enola, I don't like repeating myself. Let's go now, the kingdom calls us all home." Wynn said, as she cupped her ear, and tilted her head towards the portal.

See, that was the thing; Alicia no longer heard the call of the Fae, or the kingdom. She no longer imagined herself eating the sweet fruits of the Fae realm, so use to the modern day and age.

And so she braced herself, and told both Wynn, and Diveen of it.

They were both in disbelief, Wynn most of all. She reached in the portal, plucking a golden red apple, and handing it off to Alicia.

"Eat it, Enola." Wynn ordered, and Alicia listened, biting into it.

The juices of the apple was like a drug, making her want more, but the feeling felt false and forced. Usually, she would feel light and free, but at the moment, Alicia felt heavy, bloated, and her headache was even worse.

She shook her head, and handed back the apple to Wynn.

"The kingdom doesn't call back to me; I have no pull to it either."
