Chapter 2: The System of the New World

Chapter 2: The System of the New World

I am not dead. And my wounds… I don’t feel them anymore. I sat and groped my body but I was temporarily stunned when I touched something smooth and silky attached on my body. I slowly looked at myself, illuminated by the light coming from the hole of the ceiling.

I almost shouted in bewilderment as I have realized what I’ve become. I have white smooth, thick and silky furs, shining through. I have these feet and a tail akin to dogs, foxes… or wolves. Wait, wait, what the hell is going on to me?

“Report: The transmigration of the soul has been successfully carried out. Welcome to the world of Valor. I am Solomon, your virtual assistant and your guide. To start your adventure, please enter your name and register in the system,” a monotone male voice suddenly segued in my mind, putting me into complete awe.

Transmigration? World of Valor? Solomon? What on earth is happening to me? How is this possible? Maybe, I am just dreaming… or imagining things. I need to get back to my senses and find my way home to the village.

“Impossible. You can’t return to your past life anymore. You are not dreaming nor imagining things, master. To start with your adventure, please enter your name and register in the system,” the voice, which it referred Solomon to itself, emphasized and reiterated.

“So you mean, I’m supposed to be dead by now but my soul got transmigrated here in this world you called Valor and got a physical body of a wolf or whatsoever kind of animal is this? And you will serve as my guide in this brand new life? Am I right?” I gushed out and I feel like I was crazy talking to myself.

“Affirmative. Now to start with your advent-”

“Okay, okay, fine! You don’t need to repeat it anymore. I understand now. I’ll do it, just give me a moment to come up with a good name. May you?”

“Okay. I’ll be waiting for 1 minute, master,” Solomon demanded. What? Oh, I can’t believe this virtual assistant. But anyway, I’ll do it just before 1 minute is over.

“Hmmm…” I fell into silence as I intently thought of a good name that would suit me in this new world. I looked above and from the small hole of the ceiling, I was mesmerized by the beauty of the moon. It is stunningly beautiful; its radiance is dazzling through the night sky. Wait, the moon… That’s it! I want to derive my name from it.

“Luna! I want to be called Luna from now on. Luna Cathwulf. Yes, that’s it. I’m a female, though it’s obvious, and my age is 20,” I said to Solomon.

“Copy that, master. Your new name is Luna Cathwulf, female and 20 years old. Please wait for a while to load the data in the system,” my virtual assistant uttered in my head. I just mentally nodded at him.

This is amazing! I was living in a village, away from a highly-technological city but now… I feel like I am experiencing those things I saw whenever we went there for a product trade. Well I experienced once in my past life, talking to a virtual assistant in one of the convenient stores when I was buying some goods. This feeling is surreal and overwhelming. But how did these all happened? How did I get a virtual assistant in my head out of a sudden? How did I get here? Aist, this is driving me crazy.

After a few minutes, a strange prompt has appeared on my vision. There are many unfamiliar letters and symbols floating in front of me. It looks like they are written on an invisible glass.

“Auto-translation of text and symbols has been activated,” Solomon said. I was amazed when those unfathomable symbols for me earlier became readable to me now. This is really amazing. Now, I can see my new name, age, sex and other information about me engraved on a seemingly transparent blue glass.

“You have been successfully registered in the system.

Adventurer’s name: Luna Cathwulf

Sex: Female

Age: 20

Specie: Hybrid, a mixture of Human and Silver Werewolf

Skills: Metcognition, Pain Nullification, Enhanced Strength, Thermal Manipulation, Atmokinesis, Nightmare Phantasm, and Ruler.

HP: 1000

MP: 1000

EXP: 0

Magicite: 1000,” my virtual assistant read what’s written in front of me. My eyebrows furrowed as I can’t understand some of the listed information here.

“Can you explain to me what do these skills, HP, MP, EXP and Magicite mean, Solomon?” I inquired out of curiosity.

“Copy that, master. Skills refer to the abilities and spells you can utilize using a specific amount of magicite and MP. HP stands for Hit Points. It is a numerical attribute representing your health. If your HP decreases to zero, it will lead you to death. Maintaining and leveling it up is very important. While, MP stands for Mana Points. It is usually the measure of how many skills you can use and spells you can cast. EXP, on the other hand, is the measure of your experience in a battle with monsters, and enemies. This is awarded after the battle. But at some cases, you can gain EXP through taming monsters. If EXP increases, your HP, MP and Magicite status increase too. Lastly, Magicite is the amount of magical energy you have obtained. Even you have a high a magicite status if your MP is low, it is impossible for you to cast a spell or activate a skill. Strong skills and spells require a high amount of magicite and MP. To sum it up, skills are your magical abilities. While MP and magicite status can be restored once they became zero, your HP cannot be. EXP can increase the status of your HP, MP and magicite. Are these details enough or do you want to know more, master?”

I almost lose my sanity hearing all of those information. I can’t register all of them in my head once and for all. They are too complicated for me to understand. I mentally heaved a deep breath and tried to decipher what Solomon have explained.

“Wait, Solomon, to increase my status points, I should gain EXP, right? And to gain EXP, I need to fight monsters and enemies or at least tame a monster? Is that correct?”

“Affirmative. The higher the EXP, the higher the chance to survive in an ever-changing environment,” the voice replied.

“Okay, I see. That means I need to fight, kill or tame monsters in order to live in this world. Last question, why the hell I was transmigrated here in the form of a furry animal with the need to kill monsters to survive and who’s the one behind this? For P*te’s sake, I wanna rest in peace and yet I was given another problem!” I blurted out, ranting about my fate.

“I don’t have the information to answer your questions, master. Let me use the search engine to look for answers. Please wait for a moment…” Solomon said. I let out a sigh again, pitying myself for having such a bad fate. This may be a brand new life for me but it is coupled with brand new problems too.

“No results found. The information you are requesting to access is confidential. Error 4004,” my virtual assistant stated. For the nth time, I drew a deep breath.

“Nevermind that. I guess, there’s no other option here but to survive and increase my status points.” I stood up and looked at the moon again. And before I knew it, I was howling like I was a wolf in the forest. Well, literally, I am a wolf now-a silver one. Wait, Solomon mentioned earlier that I’m a hybrid of a human and a werewolf. Does it mean I can have a human form too?

“Is it possible, Solomon?”

“Yes. But you can only have a human form if certain requirements are met. As of now, the probability of having a human form is 15.33 percent,” he answered.

I mentally winced my lips because of that thought. So I really need to level up here and upgrade my skills. Anyway, I’m hungry and thirsty. Is there anything to eat or drink here?

“Am I in cave or what?” I thought.

“Affirmative. You are specifically in the cave of Loria or also known as the unconquered cave,” Solomon answered.

“I see,” I just replied. I still have things to ask but maybe I’ll just save that for later. I refrained from idly sitting on a cold hard rock and started exploring my surroundings. My ears waggled as I heard a dripping sound of liquid not too far from me. My sense of hearing and smell feels like they were enhanced. Well, wolfs have innate sharp senses. That explains why.

I ran towards the sound and as I got closer, it became louder and louder. The environment is started to become brighter too. Few minutes later, I came into halt when I arrived at the place where the dripping sound is coming from. I was astonished by the mesmerizing and breathtaking view before me.

There’s a lake of white liquid in the middle of the place surrounded by glowing crystals. The supply of white liquid comes from a pointed piece of hardened giant white rock that hangs down from the roof of the cave where I am located. My mouth watered as my nose smelled a high sweet aromatic flavor on the air.

I didn’t waste time anymore and have my way towards the lake. I drunk from it through sticking my tongue on the white liquid and licking it like wolfs do when they drink water. I stopped for a moment as I tasted a lingering sweetness coupled with fruitiness on my tongue.

“Amazing! This is the most delicious liquid I have ever tasted,” I blissfully gushed out of amusement. I couldn’t help but to drink more on the lake. The white liquid gives warmth in me.

“Report: A strange food is detected. Do you want me to analyze it?” Solomon interfered while I am enjoying this white liquid.

“Yes, yes! Please do,” I replied without stopping myself from drinking.

“Starting Analysis…” A sudden image is projected on my vision. It is an image of the rock, hanging down from the ceiling of the cave, where the white liquid is being produced.

“The white liquid is called Dairy Mineral. It is a natural milk produced by earth’s flowing breast that has healing and nourishing properties. It has a high nutrition and therapeutic value. Dairy Mineral contains 100 percent digestible amino acids, making it a high-quality protein source. It has also a high fiber content and is high in vitamins A, B, C, D and K, as well as minerals like calcium, phosphorus, and potassium. Moreover, it is a good source of magical energy, thus, an essential food for increasing the magicite status of an organism,” my virtual assistant stated while all the details were being flashed in front of me.

“Magicite status has been increased to 1500… 1650… 1789… 1990… 2255…” Solomon stopped counting when I stopped drinking from the lake. I’m full now. I can’t drink anymore. I need to stop or else my eagerness to drink more might backfire on me. There’s this old adage saying, “Everything that is too little or too much is bad.”

“Thank you for that information, Solo-” My words were cut off when the ground suddenly shook. The ceiling is moving back and forth with short, quick movements. It’s like something is coming here.

The tremors of the earth is followed by a long loud roar that sent shivers down my spine. I gulped as I have an idea about that thing coming this way. It’s a monster for sure, based from the sound it produced earlier.

“Report: Mostly, a lake of Dairy Mineral is a bathing place for an Armored Dragon,” Solomon segued in my mind. I mentally widened my eyes.

“Armored what? Dragon? You mean a ferocious gigantic lizard with wings, long tail and large claws that can breathe out a fire-a beast that only exists in myths and legends? Are you serious, Solomon. So I drank from a lake where a dragon soaks itself,” I blurted out of disbelief.

“Affirmative. Based from the roaring sound earlier and the current earthquake, there’s a 95 percent possibility that an Armored Dragon is coming this way,” he added.

“Oh, no! I’m doomed,” I muttered while waiting for that monster to show itself before me.

What should I do now?
