When Akjan finished his story, Ewin's horse suddenly neighed in fear and began to jerk to free his reins. David stood up slightly as shapes appeared around them in the darkening forest. The horse reared and twisted, screaming.

In the darkness among the trees, the light of the fire reflected from the eyes of more wolves on all sides.
