Surrounded

With a few words they kept it low but they were scared. Whatever they saw there made them scared to death.

The dead roamed around coming closer to us and lingered around for a long time. It was around 8 am that almost all of them left. We could not wait for the sun to be so high to start our journey.

All this period, my mind was to my son and husband. Were they with a good group? Are they able to survive? Were they taking care of Javi?

Ooh Javi. He is always a cheerful boy with lots of ideas in his head. He had watched lots of cartoons and games. He could speak of Zombies in his cartoons of games as they played with his father.

I laughed at myself thinking on how I used to say it was just games and movies and cartoons. Now, it was different. I was the character in a real movie in life. In a movie the character can die but be alive at the end but here. I would turn and be dead forever.

My leg had a very painful muscle pull when I tried to turn. I almost screamed in pain but bit my lips. It was terrible. I could feel my leg had gone numb due to sitting in the same position for long without a space to turn

Mr. Kibali called me back to reality

“Girl, get the kids ready. There are around 15 remaining. We can take them down and move fast.”

“Yes. Kids be ready to move. Listen to me. Don’t run off again. It will be very dangerous.” I said to the kids touching their chicks to assure them.

Mr. and Mrs. Kibali got out first and dealt with two that were standing at the entrance.

“Don’t be afraid. Soon you will have to learn to do it as well to protect yourself.” With that I went out to help with the clearing.

Within few minutes we were done

“Come on kids. Let’s go before they come back. Mr. Kibali, do you think they are attracted to noise?”

“Probably. Every time there are noises they follow it. It would be better to keep it low.”

“That would be good. Kids don’t shout loud. If there are something you need you tap me.” I said to them

“Give me your hands. Follow behind the teacher closely. I will be behind you. Mr. Kibali will be ahead of us”

“Will we see our parents soon?” One of the little girls asked eagerly. Looking at her pleading eyes. I could not bring myself to break her hope

“Yes dear. We will find your parents. For that we will need you to behave and do everything we tell. You need to be safe to see them. Okay?” I said to them as I put my backpack on my back. Mrs. Kibali had gotten me the backpack. I didn’t have anything with me when I left home. Even with my phone, I could not make a call.

“Hey everyone behind me lets go. It will be hard to handle them when they are too many.” With that everybody followed behind the Kibali family.

We all were not sure where we were going. As long as we could find somewhere safe then it was good.

Passing through the woods, we came to an end and sat down a tree to relax and have water. We were running out of water so we had to reduce water intake but think of getting water. We rested for a while and headed to the warehouse. It was not far from where we were. There were few zombies roaming on the path and the field around.

“How comes have never been to this part of town” I asked loudly though I was thinking

“Because you are always busy with your life and others and had no time. That’s normal. Few people come on this side” Mrs. Kibali said passing me a few pierces of biscuits

“That’s true. It’s been long since I left home to do others things or go out.” I said back looking at the kids tired at the side. If it were not for the kids, we could have gone very far.

“Get ready to move. We have to get to the warehouse in the next few minutes to be sure they are there.” Mr. Kibali stood up effortlessly and placed his A.K 47 hanging down his shoulder before helping his wife up

He guided us down the rough road towards the warehouse but very cautious. We could see few of the undead roaming on the field but we moved in slow movement with minimal sound produced. The kids were beginning to understand the situation and kept quite all the way. We fought with few we found on the way clearing. I had been given a short gun and few bullets. Since we didn’t know what we will up ahead, we had to save eon our bullets

I used my rod to get rid of them and a small knife for a close up confrontation. It may be easy for someone not in the action to give an opinion but not when facing the real danger. I use to comment when the zombies in the movie were attaching and killing people but now, I can’t say anything.

With the kids in the middle, we made sure they were safe and not scratched anywhere. I just prayed for my son to be safe and sound. Also, I wished the parents of all the children with us would make it.

It’s hard to run with kids.

You are alone and could not protect yourself well, what about having kids with you. It’s really hard.  Only the parents could do everything within their power to protect the kids.

In the next one hour we were near the destination. There were an abandoned Lorries, Van, cars and even motorbike on the road and it seemed to be abandoned

We followed Mr. Kibali, going round the Lories looking out for any surprises. There was no one around. That’s could mean either they were alive and abandoned the cars or they are dead and followed other cars towards a different direction.

We saw the warehouse from a distance but what we saw had my heart drop.
