CHAPTER FIVE.

The house was exceptionally quiet for a new house which was being occupied by people today. As Nick walked into the living room, he didn’t see his sister nor his wife, he wasn’t in the least surprised because two of them were not people who enjoyed conversation.

Releasing the tie from his neck, he made his way to the wine cellar. There was a lot in his mind and he wanted to ease his aching heart a little.

Sipping his wine slowly, he made his way to the fireplace and sat down before his mind drifted to the encounter he had earlier at the orphanage. He could beat the two of them hiding something from him but he just couldn’t pinpoint it. Did the furgessons has a hand in what was happening?why did they look so scared when he asked about his family?

His musing was interrupted when he heard a voice beside him and he turned to see April standing a few feet away from him, she was already dressed for bed and that made him look at the golden clock on the wall. It was already past nine.

“What are you thinking so intently about?” She asked.

One thing he had come to know about her was the fact that she meant when she said she was going to help him take down his enemies no matter who it was and she had been doing a good job over the years.

“Is Fedora sleeping?” He asked massaging the space between his brows before sipping his drink again and while April lowered herself on the sofa beside him.

“Your sister is not the mingling type so am I, anyways did you find anything?” She asked diverting the topic,

“I went to the orphanage I was adopted from” he finally answered after thinking for a while.

“And?”

“They seem to be hiding something” Nick answered and his eyes lit up immediately as if he thought of something.

“Organizations like that can have some information stored in their systems right?can you hack into that?” He asked again, waiting for her response.

“It depends if they actually have, if you are sure they actually have and you can just get me the model name, it is an easy job more than spelling my name”

“Okay, I will be going back there. I will see what I can find”

“Good, you should rest up. Your interview for tomorrow is a tough one and rest assured, your family won’t let you have it in peace. Your father is already making calls, you have put the old man on his toes” she added and stood up before walking back upstairs.

Nick didn’t know for how long he sat there thinking, it was not until the chiming of the clock striking twelve did he know that he had been sitting for hours. He was trying to devise a plan in getting into the orphanage because he knew for a fact that those people would be more cautious than ever, he had already begun to ask questions and whoever was behind anything would not just sit on his hands.

……

As he stood up to go upstairs, he saw Fedora walking towards him and he creased his forehead into a frown. Why was she still awake?”

“Why are you still awake?” He asked the moment she walked up to him.

“Here” she answered, extending her hand towards him, she had a book in her hands.

Collecting it, he glanced at it for a moment before turning his gaze back at her.

“What is this?”

“These are the list of people father was in touch with for the past five years that he was looking for you, I think there is more than what meets the eye Nick. The other day, mother and Nessa were talking about something which I didn’t hear but I know it was related to you. Everyone on this group had something to say about you and they were all mad at father that he allows you to escape, I just don’t understand”

Another eye opener for him, just how many secrets were surrounding him?

“How did you get this?”

“Just a little cry and father allowed to sleep in his room”

“Thank you” he said sincerely and she smiled at him before walking away.

Nick kept staring at the book and the names of everyone in it. He knew more than half of these people but why would they also want him dead?Did he step on anyone’s toes?

A lot of questions were popping in his head as he took slow steps up the stairs, there was more to this than what meets the eye.

……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………….

“Very well then”Gregory spoke into the phone and gently replaced the golden landline.it was already past midnight but the Furgesson family seemed to be devoid of sleep as all of them sat in Mr Furgesson’s study.

Four pairs of eyes were staring at him in anticipation and he knew they were desperate.

All of them were desperate, Nick had kept them on their toes since he openly declared war on them.

“Did he go there?” His wife asked, unable to hold the suspense anymore.

“Yes”

Alvanon angrily threw the document he was holding on the ground and it shattered a vase.

“If only we took care of him long before that day, we won’t be having any of these issues” he growled angrily.

“Calm down Alvanon, none of us wanted this to happen anyways”Chris answered.

He was the second son of the family but he was more dangerous than his brother.

“Alvanon, you and Chris have to take care of that orphanage tonight. We can’t afford to make any mistakes now that Nick has gotten a wave of things” his mother chipped in and she got an approval from her husband.

“Do a clean job” he added and the two of them nodded before walking out, “ and don’t forget to bring anything you can find” he called after them.

“What of Fedora dad?Is she an enemy now?” Nessa asked, she wouldn’t deny the fact that she loved her sister but she wouldn’t be able to go against her parents.

“Fedora is just a child, she will soon come back to her senses” her mother chipped in but earned a glare from her husband.

“She is not a child and I will not treat her as such anymore” he snapped.

If he had known earlier that she helped Nick to escape that night, he would have taught her a valuable lesson.

“Nick openly declared war on us Gregory, that is just for the fact that he knew we wanted him dead. What happens when he finds out the whole truth?”

Gregory Furgesson smiled, “that is only possible if he beats us to the game Emilia, we have to get rid of him before he does us. I can’t lose to the son i brought up”

“Adopted son” Nessa corrected, she hated the fact that a loafer such as Nick had been sharing the same surname with her all his life.

“Keep your anger in check Nessa, we need brains now and not that stupid anger of yours” her mother chided rolling her eyes at her.

“Once Alvanon and Chris take care of those two oldies, I will see what other ways Nick can use. He is no match for me, not after all I have done for him” Gregory muttered to himself.

The three of them sat down and kept looking at each other but different thoughts were running through their minds.

If only he didn’t escape his death five years ago, they wouldn’t have to be involved in any illegal dealings again but now Nick was back and he didn’t look like the old Nick even in the slightest. He wanted revenge from all of them and the only way to stop that was if they were always a step ahead of him.

But was that possible? Will a betrayed heart allow them to win against him the second time?

“Nessa give us a moment, I want to have a word with your father” Mrs Furgesson said out of the blue a few minutes later.

The girl didn’t look pleased, she already knew everything so why was her mother asking her to leave.

“I already know everything Mum so what is the point?”

“A moment” she hissed again and Nessa rolled her eyes before walking out.

“Greg” Emilia called the moment Nessa was out of earshot, “ we need to get in touch with Emily”

“I understand what you want to say, Emilia, do not worry. I will not allow him to win this war, we have come too far to let anything ruin our lives now”

“Don’t forget he had frays backing”

Mr Furgesson chuckled lightly, “It is because Nick married his daughter and he has a grudge against us. Don’t worry about him and just get in contact with your sister tomorrow” he added on a final note before relaxing on his chair.

Everything was going to be ruined if they took things likely.
