Chapter 7: Vampire Slayer

Even with the vast magical energy that Liora had at this moment, it would be a waste if she keeps doing the light orb spell. It doesn't even hit the vampire even once and I know that Liora needed to learn a new kind of spell to kill this vampire.

"Liora stops wasting magical energy like that. I know that you're angry but try to control the anger," I say as she didn't seem to listen to me.

Liora kept casting the light orb spell as the vampire slowly advanced towards her.

"Hahaha! I assume you're a novice mage… you couldn't cast any other spell and it took you quite a long time to cast one." The vampire says as both of his hands had transformed into a sharp blade and if that hit Liora, I am sure that she would die instantly.

When I took a closer look at that sharp blade, I noticed that there's some spell that had been cast on it. If I was not mistaken, I think the spell was called Decaying Blood.

I don't use that kind of spell but I do have experienced its effect before. When I was in a particular cave searching for the old tomes, I then encountered a vampire group hiding there for some reason.

As I still had little knowledge about any spell that time around. I was hit by it on the arm and my arm was slowly decaying as it began to spread to my entire body. Cutting my arm was the only option I had or my whole body would decay as well.

Surprisingly I still managed to win the fight against the vampire despite losing an arm. Thanks to god that my arm regrew when I had drunk the Elixir of Immortality.

Knowing its effect, I better warn Liora as I think she might do something unexpected. She did become much more reckless at the moment.

"Liora, don't you get hit by those blades as it will decay your body." I say, "And one more thing, stop casting the light orb spell because even though your magical energy is great… you don't have the chance of beating this vampire using only that spell."

"So teach me a new spell then! I will kill this vampire… I will avenge Jayla's death!" Liora said furiously towards me.

"Didn't you hear me before! You would never stand a chance at all. There's no way that you could beat the vampire as you need an advanced spell to be able to kill him." I say as I wanted her to know the reality right now "I know that I could master it as I do with this light orb spell."

"Master it? It was a fluke that you could cast it right now. I doubt that you could master an advanced spell in less than a minute." I say, "Even if you could manage to master and cast the advanced spell, your body wouldn't be able to withstand the power and might perish as soon as you cast the spell."

"I gladly took the risk if I could kill the vampire. I don't even care if I will die at all," Liora said. As I know, she wasn't thinking straight at all. She let her emotions rule over her right now.

"Don't be stupid, Liora!" I say, "Successfully casting an advanced spell doesn't guarantee that you could kill the vampire as it might not be strong enough… You're just risking your life for something that isn't guaranteed success at all. "

While we both are arguing at the moment, Liora was almost hit by the sharp blade. She somehow managed to dodge it at the last second.

Seeing what would happen if we both kept arguing, I decided to teach Liora an advanced spell that she really wanted.

As this was her choice, I don't have the permission to tell her what to do and I wouldn't be the one that suffers the consequences if it failed. Besides, Liora was no one to me and I shouldn't even care if she died or not.

When I was about to tell Liora an advanced spell, I realized what I felt when I first met Liora. I know now why I don't want Liora to die.

Liora was the same as one girl that I met back in Aeqelar, a girl that I couldn't protect because of my own weakness back then.

I always thought that Liora was a timid girl but anger and revenge really changed her, somewhat deluded herself that she could beat the vampire.

Maybe that's why I didn't want Liora to die. She had the same recklessness as a girl I met in Aeqelar.

Again, this was her decision, so be it then, if she really wanted to sacrifice herself to get her own revenge. I will not try to stop her right now as she believes that this was the right thing to do.

Still, mastering an advanced spell isn't that easy and I really think that she couldn't do it at all within this short time. Either Liora dies by the vampire blade or by herself trying to master something that her body couldn't handle, Liora would die anyway.

Unless she decides to retreat and get her revenge another time, she slowly masters all of the advanced spells and makes her body able to adapt to the changes. I am confident that Liora would not die today if she chooses that.

That's the best option that Liora could take but I know that she wouldn't listen to me at all.

"If you die for nothing… don't blame me for it as my job was only to teach you a single advanced spell," I said that towards her as she was trying to keep her distance from the vampire.

Liora knows that she couldn't evade the blade at all and to stay alive. She needed to stay away from the vampire as long as she could until she managed to learn the advanced spell from me.

"Listen to what I am going to say. There's no time as I would only tell it once," I say as I started to teach her the required spell to defeat this vampire in front of us.

"I am going to teach you an advanced fire spell called Greater Fireball, an upgrade of the basic fireball spell," I say that as she needed to know what spell she was going to learn, "I don't know whether you had seen a fireball before if you had it would make the learning process much better."

"Sorry, but I had never seen anyone use it," Liora replied.

"That's fine then, all you need to do is to visualize fire like what you had done with the light orb, but remember to visualize a massive fire. Then chant, 'The great red flame rose from the earth's abode, consuming everything on path!' The great fireball would then appear if you do all of the things correctly."

Liora immediately tries to do it but there's nothing happening. She keeps chanting the spell as she keeps her distance from the vampire.

The vampire realizes then laughs as he hears Liora incantations, "HAHA! You're really a novice mage…" The vampire sighed as he continued to say, "this would be no fun at all and maybe I should give you some time to learn it while I slaughter all of the people in this tiny village... Hahaha!"

"I will not let you go!" Liora says, "I will kill you before you could harm my village. You would die, vampire." Liora shouted that.

"Kill me? You must be a joking girl. There's no way that you could do that." The vampire says, the sharp blade slowly reverting into a normal hand. "You couldn't even cast an advanced spell, you could harm me with the light orb spell but it wouldn't do you any good at all… I will still be alive as that spell is just too weak to end my life."

After the vampire said that, he then began to leave Liora cabin. The vampire just simply walked over to the lady corpse and kicked the baby corpse aside as both of the bodies were blocking the vampire's way.

I was surprised to see that a tremendous fireball appeared and flew fast towards the vampire. The vampire didn't realize it was coming as the greater fireball caught him. The vampire was burning as it let out a very painful screaming.

"Ahhh! What Did I think?..." The vampire said as I saw that his body was burning. "I-I-I know, you must be faking it just to make me lower my guard up, very clever mage, very…." The vampire couldn't finish as he turned into a pile of ashes.

I didn't believe it. Did Liora manage to kill the vampire by casting an advanced spell? I looked at Liora as she let out a faint smile.

"I did it…" She said as the faint smile turned into tears, "I-I am sorry, Jayla, because of me, both of you died. If only I hadn't brought this vampire here, you both would still be alive." Liora said as she was slowly walking towards the corpses.
