Chapter 12

“Your grandfather had ordered that we visit one of the automotive companies beneath the empire, in order to pick some cars of your choice.”

Tom said just as they existed the bank where Richardson had been treated like a president, with so much respect that almost overwhelmed him.

“To pick some cars?” Richardson echoed after Tom as they got back into the Rolls Royce which was held open by the driver.

“Yes, young master. It’s part of what you need now that you’re the owner of the empire.” Tom explained and Richardson nodded, while his head reeled.

The car moved smoothly and Richardson comfortably settled against the spotless leather of the chairs in the car, allowing himself to relax.

He kept twirling the black card around his fingers due to his excitement. It wasn’t long before the car slowed to a stop.

Richardson stepped out of the car when it got pulled open for him respectfully, and he glanced up at the huge building looming before him.

The large logo he could spot at one part of the building, was indication that this building was one of the few wealthiest car manufacturers in the world.

The sound of Tom huffing out a breath, made Richardson glance sideways to regard Tom.

Tom was cladded in a black suit that looked like it cost a few months of Richardson’s salary combined together.

It was obvious that Tom was loaded financially, which weirded Richardson out– because should someone spot them right now, they’d think he was Tom’s personal assistant and not the other way round.

Richardson was still in the same clothes he had been in yesterday. He was supposed to have purchased some new clothes already, but had to visit the bank first, as well as this next stop.

He was just going to have to go do some wears shopping after he finishes here.

“Can you please wait for me in the car or go do something else?” Richardson asked, and Tom blinked at him confusingly.

“I’d like to do this on my own… if you don’t mind.” Richardson explained when Tom had asked his reason for saying that.

“Of course, young master. I don’t mind. I’d just wait in the car.” Tom said politely, understandingly.

“I’ll be done as fast as I can.” Richardson reassured.

Tom shook his head dismissively. “Oh no, sir. Please take your time. I’m in no hurry seeing as I’m only assigned to see to all your needs.”

“Oh… alright then.” Richardson murmured and then he began to make his way into the building.

The gatekeepers regarded Richardson with unreadable expressions on their faces as they let him into the building, but Richardson paid them no heed.

He walked into the ground floor with his shoulders squared and his hands deep in his pockets.

His recently activated black card brushing against his right hand in his pocket was enough to make him way more confident than he’d feel on a normal day.

It was what made him confident walk up to the receptionist sitting behind a desk and spoke.

“Hello, I’d like to purchase a couple of cars.”

The receptionist slowly regarded him from head to toe and Richardson tried not to squirm.

The receptionist squinted up at him. “Are you sure you’re in the right building, sir?” She asked, voice doubtful, and Richardson felt immensely insulted.

“I’m very certain I’m in the right building.” Richardson responded calmly, hands still lodged deep in his pockets.

“Very well then.” The receptionist sighed as she reluctantly got to her feet. Richardson didn’t miss her little eye roll as she asked him to wait while she went to fetch an attendant to see to him.

She returned some minutes later with a lanky looking man beside her. The man offered Richardson a hard shake, but it wasn’t hard to tell that the man was also eying Richardson’s outfit up.

“Welcome to Wheels enterprises, sir.” The attendant said as he offered Richardson a seat a few feet away from the receptionist’s table.

Richardson was very certain that he’d have been instantly ushered into a very classy looking office and offered champagne, assuming they knew who he actually was, or how much was currently in his account.

The attendant regarded Richardson pointedly after Richardson had informed him the exact thing he said some minutes ago to the receptionist.

“Are you sure you’re certain of what you want, sir?” The attendant asked and Richardson nodded firmly.

“Please be aware that we do not entertain installmental payments, especially from customers whose source of income is nothing to write home about. No offense, sir.”

The attendant didn’t look like he was actually sorry, and that threw off Richardson, but he still held unto his cool.

He couldn’t blame the attendant for regarding his clothes judgingly, but he wished people wouldn’t automatically judge a book by its cover without knowing its content.

“Please be patient, I’ll be right back. I’m off to retrieve the cars’ booklet.”

The attendant left to go retrieve the company’s booklet which would consist of the list of cars currently available for sale.

Richardson relaxed against the chair he was sitting on as his eyes wandered around the entire ground floor. A few people were on the ground floor as well, discussing with different attendants.

Richardson watched as an attendant led two men dressed in suit into an elevator, definitely to an office upstairs where they’d be given special treatment for being rich.

Richardson was humming to himself and glancing around the ground floor when his eyes caught two images walking into the building.

He halted for a few seconds before glancing back towards the doorway and his mouth fell open in shock.
