A small commotion was happening within the crowd, as the children participating in the ceremony chatted amongst each other.
"That was the crown prince, right? I can't believe I managed to get a glimpse of such a legendary figure. Even if I don't get into the Celestial Academy, just this alone is enough for me to brag about when I return to my village."
A youth who was wearing shabby clothes only fit for someone living on the streets said with excitement and contentment.
Another youth who was clad in a luxurious fur coat, turn to look at him with a face that resembled someone who had just smelled dog crap.
With a disgusted tone, the youth in fur coat said, "A country bumpkin like you should be grateful that you even get a chance to see someone as amazing as the crown prince before you die. Trash like you shouldn't even be here in the first place, the Celestial Academy should just start restricting foul dregs from participating in the Disciple Selection Ceremony. I mean, what kind of talent could a trash like you have anyway? You should just go back to your backwater village and not embarrass yourself in front of so many people."
As the youth spoke those words, several snickers and laughter echoed from the youths in the surroundings.
The youth that was humiliated had on an ashamed look as he lowered his head.
This type of treatment was normal for people of low statuses. In circumstances such as this, they have to suffer ridicule and humiliation from people of noble backgrounds.
The youth's reaction to being treated in such a way could be called cowardice, but if he ever dare to talk back or show any sign of anger, it would give the fur-clad youth a reason to retaliate.
The youth didn't know what clan this fur-clad youth was from, but he knew it was probably strong enough to wipe out his little village. And ultimately that's what it all came down to, he didn't want to say something or cause trouble that would bring danger to his village.
After the youth in the fur-clad clothes saw the youth's reaction, he sneered and said, "Just trash taking up space, even if you die no one would notice."
Another round of laughter rang out from the surrounding youths.
Some other youths who were dressed the same as the ragged clothe youth were in the crowd nearby, and they couldn't help but grit their teeth while clenching their fists.
Seeing how someone who could have easily been them being treated like garbage, made indignation well up in their hearts.
They all thought to themselves that if they could just enter a cultivation institute like the Celestial Academy, then they'll have access to opportunities to become stronger. They wouldn't need to fear the bullying from people with noble backgrounds then and even if their strength isn't as high as theirs, the status of being a disciple of the Celestial Academy could deter almost anyone from taking action against them.
But though some people with similar backgrounds as the ragged clothe youth were burning with indignation at his treatment, others were trying to blend into the crowd, hoping to stay out of sight so they wouldn't be next.
They wouldn't go sticking out their necks for other people, they would prefer to focus on themselves and themselves alone.
As the youths of poor backgrounds were being jeered at, and the disciple selection ceremony was going on, a loud bang suddenly echoed out causing everyone to turn in the direction.
That direction was the plain Pavilion that no one dare to approach.
Xi Shen was seen strolling out through the door-less entrance.
As Xi Shen walked over the shards of oak wood that was once the Pavilion entrance door, he was fuming with concealed anger.
'Stupid old man trying to force me into joining some third-rate sect. It's all that bastard Fu Wei's fault, just you wait, in the future, I'll... I'll... I'll...'
In his rage Xi Shen couldn't come up with anything, so he angrily kick a chuck of the oak wood door sending it several meters out of sight.
'I don't know what I'll do to him, maybe I'll just turn him into a eunuch or something.'
As Xi Shen thought that in his anger, he suddenly paused.
'Wait, maybe that's not a good idea, seeing as he's the crown prince and everything. If he becomes a eunuch I'll inadvertently become the crown prince, effectively screwing over myself.'
Xi Shen then shook his head before he continue, 'I'm not interested in becoming emperor, else I wouldn't have given that plum blossom to him, increasing his innate talent from the Earth-grade to the Heaven-Grade. Though who would have thought he had a Supreme-grade comprehension? If this continues he'll have attained full comprehension of my plum blossom by the end of the year.'
Xi Shen's anger began to fade, as he absentmindedly started walking towards the group of youths, and the large podium in deep thought.
He was totally unaware that everyone's eyes were currently trained on him.
Everyone had watched dumbfoundedly as he angrily kick that chunk of oak wood several meters away. What Xi Shen didn't know was that the chunk of oak wood he kicked, had embedded itself, at its sharp end no less, in a Pavilion nearby.
A poor observer was there, who had gone wide-eyed at the chunk of wood flying towards him, only to have it whiz past his head by mere inches to then be stuck into the Pavilion's stone structure.
Cold sweat poured down that man's face as he and everyone else watch Xi Shen walk away.
Everyone would have taken it as an accident if they hadn't seen Xi Shen pause mid-stride before shaking his head as if he was disappointed that the chunk of oak wood hadn't embedded itself into the man's skull.
Xi Shen was unaware of how his actions were perceived by everyone, but even if he did he wouldn't care, it was only an accident and he obviously wasn't trying to kill the man for no apparent reason.
But even though Xi Shen would have thought that that was exactly what it had looked like from everyone's point of view.
They couldn't read his mind, so they didn't know what he was thinking when he had attempted his assassination of the man. They just saw him angrily stomping out of the pavilion, before kicking that oak wood at the man.
After it had missed, he just shook his head in disappointment and walked away.
That was basically assassination attempt 101, make it look like an accident!!

As Xi Shen was walking absentmindedly for a while, he suddenly looked up and saw the large podium right in front of him. Slightly confused as to why he didn't see anyone, Xi Shen looked up at the Celestial Academy's elder, who was looking at him strangely, before he turn to look behind him. Xi Shen saw that the group of youths had cleared open a path for him leading up to the podium, and was standing there, waiting for him to get up onto the podium. Xi Shen was taken aback by this for a moment before a thought suddenly hit him. 'Oh right, I'm a prince in this life.' In his past life, Xi Shen wasn't in the best of situations, the principle that had been embedded into him in those times were first come first serve. As an orphan, he had never had people who went out of their way to do things for him or waited on him before. At first, he had found it
Without stopping, the stream of energy rushed towards Xi Shen's soul and began the testing process. Normally this amount of energy released by the stone pillar should be enough to engulf the soul of a person who hadn’t started cultivation, but with Xi Shen, the energy was having problems even covering a single finger from his soul. The size of a person’s Sea of Consciousness was determined by how powerful their soul was, so the fact that Xi Shen’s soul was this massive shouldn’t come as a surprise when looking at his Sea of Consciousness. This was great and all, but this was a problem for Xi Shen. ‘Hmm, I didn’t really think this through. Ever since I started comprehending the heavenly laws when I was born into this world, my soul has been growing nonstop. Is this what happens when those cultivators in my previous life began their cultivation? I don’t really know what to make of this. After barring me from comprehe
Ghuangyu was looking on with a sour expression that he was trying hard to conceal.‘Dammit!! This little brat could possibly ruin my plans, he can’t be left alive!!’As Ghuangyu said that, his eyes flashed with a dangerous light. On top of the plain pavilion, the crown prince was beaming with joy. From the big smile spreading across his face, one could tell that he was extremely happy to see that his little brother had a Supreme-grade attribute. However, that was all emotions displayed by him on the surface. What he truly felt within the depths of his heart, was absolute fury.‘Don’t test my patience little brother.’As Fu Wei thought that, he stared at Xi Shen with fake happiness on his face. His acting was so superb that it could fool anyone to think that he was extremely happy for his brother.Turnin
Xi Shen quickly made his way to the edge of the podium, glad he could get back to his drinking, however, before he could get far, the voice of the elder called out to him to his annoyance.“Wait, second prince you... uh”The elder didn’t know what to say, this situation was too unbelievable.Just a few seconds ago, Xi Shen was on his way to becoming the talk of the continent for his stunning talents, but now, it was revealed that he... was complete trash. It didn’t matter if his soul and comprehension were at the Supreme grade, without a foundation those were nothing more than useless ornaments.Xi Shen turned around to the elder and said, “What is it? I have already finished all the stupid tests, what more do you want?”When the elder heard that, he became speechless. To him, Xi Shen’s words soun
A loud laugh suddenly echoed from the crowd again, it was the fur-clad youth. He was laughing so hard this time that he looked as if he was about to fall over.“What the hell is this fool saying? Is he serious? Hey trash, do you think this is a place that would allow you to have a second chance? Hahaha, why don’t you just run back to your backwater village and stop holding up everyone’s time.”As the fur-clad youth said that, the other youths in the crowd from affluent families started laughing and mocking him. They were shouting at him to finish his testing or get off the podium. The ragged clothe youth stood there red-faced as he looked at the elder.Coming out of his dumbfoundment, the elder looked at the youth with a frown and said, “Little child what nonsense are you asking, what difference would it make if you went again. Just get on with the t
Sun Wu Fen, the Clan Leader of the second most powerful clan on the Maple Continent, the Sun Clan, said in a calm tone, “The second prince can actually match up to someone in the Meridian Opening realm, using only Basic-level techniques. That’s quite the accomplishment since there has never been someone capable of that, even the crown prince with a similar comprehension grade couldn’t.”Even though what Xi Shen did should be shocking to everyone, Sun Wu Fen and everyone else was rather calm, even a bit dismissive. After all, Xi Shen might be showing off his heaven-defying talent now, but without a foundation grade that display just made them petty him even more.Fu Wei who was alone on the plain pavilion was chuckling in his heart.‘So little brother you actually weren’t lying, when you said that who was holding back. Your Spectral Steps have reached the Completion, even stepping into
Every time the Celestial Academy held its Disciple Selection Ceremony, all the older outer sect disciples who weren’t able to meet the Celestial Academy’s requirement to become an Inner Disciple would watch on in amusement as the new disciples frantically fought over resources to increase their cultivation.Though, the outer sect disciples didn’t face this type of pressure alone. The people who had Sky-grade innate talent and were promoted straight to an Inner Sect disciple would face a demotion to an outer sect disciple if they weren’t able to reach the Sea Expansion realm before they turn sixteen. It’s been three months and the ‘Freshmen Disciple Competition’ was coming up.This competition was separated by outer and inner sect disciples. And as it draws near, it caused the tension between all the new disciples to become noticeable, the outer sect disciples even more so.
Within the small stone hut, Xi Shen was seated in a cross-legged position with Yang Su in front of him.“All right Yang Su, are you ready?”As Xi Shen said that, Yang Su looked nervous as he said, “Wait, elder brother Xi Shen you haven’t exactly told me what you're going to do.”After Yang Su had greeted Xi Shen, the latter had immediately dragged him into the hut without any explanation. They were currently within the only bedroom in the house, and Yang Su could see that most of the furniture was either knocked over or totally destroyed. Yang Su also saw burnt marks on the white-blanketed bed in the corner. The whole room just looked as if a burning tornado had swept through the room. And even though there was a formation that gathers the Spiritual Qi from the surrounding area here and acts as a protection for the small house, Yang Su still saw fine
