Her regrets

~ Lauren ~

The aura that welcomed me when I surfaced into his office was quite scary and unusual. Regardless, I set my bag on the table and settled on a seat.

'You asked to see me. Is there a problem?' I asked since he's not talking to me first.

'What do you think, Lauren? You think I'll remain calm after all I did?' he bawled, causing me to jump in my seat.

I'm not able to grasp what he's really trying to say.

'I don't understand you. What are you talking about?'

He scowled, his eye balls bulging as they stare into mine.

'i don't want to believe you've not heard about it'

I shrugged my shoulders. 'Whatever this 'it' is, I sure haven't heard anything'.

He shook his head scornfully, reached for a Newspaper on his table and threw it at me.

My mind broke in to puzzles. He's never been like this towards me. What's with his change in behavior?

'Are you going to read that or continue staring at me?'

I got a grip on myself, transferred all of my attention on the papers he threw at me. The first thing that caught my sight was the picture of my ex boyfriend, Dylan sitting at the top right of the front page. I sat upright, carefully read the headlines that followed.

'The Lost Son of Chairman Forbes has been found. Will he mount his rightful position as the Heir of the Forbes?'.

My pupils dilated and watered for staring too long without blinking. Am I caught up in some sort of dream. I snickered, single handedly answered my questions. 'Of course, it's a dream. This can't be real.' I thought out loud.

'This isn't a dream. This is real!! That's Dylan. Your ex.. Now that he's realized who he is, I think I'm going to be fired anytime from now… Stupid me. Some days ago, I reached out to tell him to stop coming to work.' He ran his hair through his tousled hair. 'What am I going to do now? How will I handle this situation?. He's going to come for me soon. I know it..' he continued to lament.

'How is this even possible?'

'Does that matter? The main thing here is that he's an heir to the company that invests in ours. He's the boss now. He's in charge. We should be thinking of ways to get on his good side now'

I let out a short laugh. 'Good side? You don't realize how bad we treated him. Do you?. Even if you try to be nice in another life, he's going to ward you off like an outcast!' I sneered, grabbed my purse and proceeded to leave. I need an alone time to sort out my thoughts.

He crossed my path. 'You're right but if you do plead with him. He's going to consider you. Isn't he? After all, his love for you is unrequited!'

I pushed up my hair into a pony tail, suddenly annoyed at how it wouldn't lay still. A turmoil of emotion was raging within me. I felt angry, frustrated and my infuriation continues to get intense due to the way I hear his name everywhere I visited today. The past began to haunt me.

If only I had stayed a little longer, maybe I would'nt be suffering any regrets now. I sighed for the umpteenth time and directed my gaze to the dark sky. It appeared as though there'll be a downfall anything from now.

'Who would have ever thought a mere commoner like him was a wealthy human all along! Did he know all of these? Was he under a disguise all along? I rolled my eyes, judging my thoughts to be crazy. Scenarios like that only happens in movies… I was wrong to think there's never going to be hope for him and yet, fate has decided to play its cards… Against me especially.

I entered the club, dropped my mini purse on the counter.

"A strong drink please." I said to the bartender.

He smiled at me and I guessed what was coming next.. an unnecessary conversation. "What is it that's bothering a pretty lady like you?'He smirked

I glared at him in response, 'I'm not here to answer darned questions from you. I'm here for a drink. Attend to me and keep your loose mouth in check!' I mentioned with so much hostility.

  "Why?" He chuckled.

",I don't have time for this please," I snapped at him. 'Don't be a jerk. I don't want to really make you regret starting up a convo with me this night'

I stared at him head on. My mere glances daring him to say one more word.

He recoiled.

'Oh.... Hold up, pretty lady. I'll make your drink while you keep your attitude."

I clicked my tongue at him and rubbed my temple, headache was settling in slowly.

I got the drink quicker than expected but from another barman. I must have really scared the first one off.

"Have you heard of the new billionaire in town?? The newly realized son of Chairman Forbes. He's the talk of the town now…" I hear two women gossiping behind me.

'Isn't his name Dylan?' A woman from another table who seemed interested butted in.

'He was Dylan. Now, he's Christain Forbes'

'I see. He sure has a very striking resemblance with his father.

' Ughh!!" I groaned. Why do they have to talk about him everywhere!! Isn't it enough that I'm haunted by the fact that he is now rich and I am just there??!

"Since he is the heir, he would need an heiress, don't you think?" The women continued to converse.

"Of course. He would surely need one."

"Do you think we fit into his categories of ladies?"

"No!!" I wanted to scream at them, but I kept my cool instead chug down the whole content in the cup instead.

'Fit into his category, my foot. He's father is possibly arranging a wealthy wife for him now..' another affirmed.

We would probably be married now and just taking

a tour around the whole world.

"Another drink!" I snap at the bartender.

I treated him like an abandoned, neglected and pitiful child. A thought crossed my mind and I held my head up high for a moment. I have the right to say I had a part in him becoming who he is today. He just needs to see it. I should let him know.

"Shit!!" I swore under my breath, "I should have gone to the hospital to visit when he had that accident." Another worry creeped in.

Why do I keep missing out in such life changing opportunities like that??!

Is there a possibility he doesn't remember me anymore?? Maybe we can start afresh, together. Young, in love and swimming with money..

The first guy who attend to me appeared now, his eyes eager as if bursting to say something.

 ,"What is it? I asked

He motioned for me to move closer so he can whisper into my ears.

I roll my eyes at his dramatic-ness

"Do you know that the heir to Forbes company has been found?'

'Enough already!' I growled and furiously exited the club.
