Chapter 46

The next morning, Arthur received a call from Catherine.

She was crying on the other end of the line, her voice soft and tearful.

"Arthur, I miss you so much! Can you come see me?"

Catherine's tone was pleading, with a hint of desperation.

"I told you not to contact me anymore!"

Arthur replied coolly, his brow furrowed.

Catherine's heart ached at his words. Where had the obedient and devoted Arthur gone? How could he be so quick to reject her? Her eyes turned cold and resentful.

"You bastard, you will pay for this with your blood!"

she thought. But then she took a deep breath and spoke in a softer tone.

"Arthur, I know I was wrong before. I was too demanding and selfish. But since you left, I realized that I can't live without you. Every night when I close my eyes, I see us getting married and living our lives together. I just want to see you one more time, to say goodbye properly."

Catherine's voice was sincere, and gradually broke through Arthur's defenses.
