Chapter 3

The days grew into weeks which eventually developed into months and then before Rex knew it he had already spent time here in Jared magical University. However, things were no longer the same as they were before when he first started university after learning the fire enchantment on his first try he became the talk of the school his fellow students stepped on each other to be friends with him and the professors were incredibly fond of him as well.

And he advanced faster than all of his other mates combined so much that it amazed everybody in the university. But then those good days did not last long and initially, even Rex did not notice it himself it was until a professor called him and told him to stay after class that he had an important discussion with him.

“Guys, the professor says if you want to talk to me I'll catch up with you all later.”

He said to his friends who were already heading out one of them managed to turn back and say.

“Don't worry about it, take your time, it must be important since the professor wants to talk to you.”

Rex was a bit surprised because he had expected his friends to at least complaint about it a little bit but they actually looked...relieved?

He shook his head. He was probably looking into it more than necessary. It was possible that he was just exaggerating the entire situation and with that one in his mind, he turned to allow the Professor to address him.

“Rex, I am not going to beat around the bush... I feel that this is something that you need to know.”

Rex felt his heart racing usually when any professor called him it was to shower praises on him but the air that reigned at that moment was so thick with anxiety that someone could cut it with a knife.

“Over the past few weeks you have excelled more than any students in this university and you have made all of your professors extremely proud...”

Rex was worried but he did not interrupt the professor and just allowed her to continue speaking as he tapped his fingers on his lap trying to ease up the tension in the air that was seeping into him and then the professor went on.

“  Your fireball enchantments are really wondering to the eyes and have amazed all of us but at the pace, you are going you were supposed to have mastered about 4 enchantments already which would have taken your mates up to a year”

Rex finally decided to speak up since he could not hold himself back anymore.

“I'm sorry Ma I don't mean to be rude but you are making me very anxious right now. Is there something that you want to tell me but you can get to directly now because I might just faint from the suspense at this rate...”

His voice was even shaking as he spoke and the woman shook her head pitifully.

“I really wished I didn't have to tell you this but Rex, I think you have reached your limit...”

It was as if the ground below his feet had suddenly shattered and his legs shook even though he was sitting it seemed as if he was going to fall over.

“P-professor w-what do you mean by that? my limits? I don't understand...”

He was already stuttering at this point.

“Rex all the professors in charge of you, including myself, held a meeting and we came to the conclusion that your skills have been at a standstill for a very long time now more than usual...”

It was as if the large Hall had suddenly shrunk into a tiny box and the young man struggled to breathe properly.

“This can't be! this is only my first year. I haven't even spent up to a year in this place. How can I already be at my limit?!”

He suddenly bolted up from his seat.

“I'm sorry but I think that you and all the other professors are wrong. I'm going to get better and I'll become the greatest wizard in history. I'll show all of you...”

After that day Rex began to work himself to the bone training and studying day and night, he often had to cancel a lot on his friends but then he noticed that this was never an issue with them and they did not even seem to bother much.

At a point, they were no longer even greeting him when they saw him anymore but would just simply pass by as if he had the plague.

He thought that maybe they were doing this because he was standing them up a lot. So one day when he saw them heading for lunch he washed after them.

“Hey guys, it's been a long time, what's up?”

Nobody responded in the group. They just kept working as if they had not heard anything at all and he was shocked. Then he convinced himself that maybe they did not just notice him and then rushed after them again with a louder greeting.

“Guys I said what's up?!"

A girl in the group suddenly started looking around.

” —Did you hear that too or is it just me?"

The tallest boy in their clique nodded.

“Yeah, I think I think I hear it too it sounds like a fly that doesn't know when to get lost...”

“Are you sure?" another boy in the group asked.

” oh yeah I hear it now I think it sounds just like an arrogant fly that thought you were better than everybody because he got a head start but now he's just behind on the race...“

Rex was so shocked by what his so-called friends were saying about him and those were even the nice ones eventually as time passed and he was not able to acquire any more enchantments returned from The Wonder student of Jared magical University to a complete joke that was mocked by everyone.
