CHAPTER 3

Being poor was never a deterrent to recognising expensive things for Derek, the old man was dressed very luxuriously with a three piece suite that had layers of expensive jewellery glittering around It, and each one sparkled under the illuminated room.

His hair was black but overshadowed by traces of white intertwined between. However, it was neatly styled.

Derek looked at the man in confusion, he wondered what a big shot like him was doing with such burly assaultive men.

Every single step he took screamed nothing but opulence, Derek found himself sweating profusely still on his seat.

Since the whole day had revolved around Reid's being merciless with him, he thought the old man was also an avenger.

When the old man kept moving forward, Derek fell to his knees immediately and begged for mercy. "Mr. I know I'm an offender, please don't kill me for the sake of my wife and unborn child. I could leave far away and never return, just tell Mrs. Reid I'm sorry, and tell my wife I love her."

Derek ran his mouth in fear.

"Leave far away? Why?" The man sounded confused, however when he saw Derek kneel down, he knelt down with him and helped him to his feet without minding his expensive clean suit.

"Young master Brook, please don't get me killed." The man asked in a voice agitated and fearful.

Derek couldn't help it either, he turned towards the old man and repeated. "Young master Brook!"

The old man nodded, and Derek could instantly make out tears gathering at the corner of his eyes.

"That's right, I finally found you young master, after so many years."

"What! I think you've got the wrong person!" Derek muttered in a skeptical tone, he was so puzzled as to why an old man old enough to be called his father would kneel before him and refer to him as a young master.

He turned around to see if there was some other person there, because he was as sure as hell that the man wasn't talking to him.

The man walked to stand in front of him with a bright smile on his face.

"Of course not young master." The old man answered with so much certainty, he had searched far and wide for the young master and finally meeting him there was no way he could take him to be someone else.

"I'm so sorry young master, I hope you aren't injured in any way." He scrutinized Derek's body to be sure if he was unscathed.

Derek was dumbfounded, he could do nothing but look at the man in confusion. He had thought the whole scenario was a kidnapping case, that he begged to see death.

However, it seemed he was far from the truth, there was really an old man referring to him as young master Brook.

The old man looked at the guards in anger. "Apologize this minute, do you not know that this is the young master!" He thundered.

The men all bowed at once.

"Forgive us master, we are sorry." They said in one accord.

Derek stole a glance at the old man once more, everything seemed to be happening so fast, it hadn't been up to twenty four hours since his unfortunate ordeals, and now he had someone before him referring to him as a young master.

Unable to believe the current ordeal, he went on to argue it out.

"I'm just an ordinary man who has nothing, I only have a lovely pregnant wife, I'm not a young master or whatsoever,  please come off the act and take me back to where you kidnapped me from." Derek pleaded honestly.

He wasn't in for this, all he wanted was to go to his wife.

To his amazement, the old man chuckled softly and ordered the burly men out.

"You may all leave now." He said to the men.

They stood up, bowed once more to the man and Derek, then they left.

"Please come with me!" He pleaded with Derek after which he led him past a luxurious hallway and abstract paintings on the wall.

As someone who was poor for as long as he could remember, this was something he could never imagine.

Although he was very nervous, he paid attention to the paintings on the wall, then he was soon attracted to a picture.

The picture was a striking resemblance of Derek, it depicted two people in their late twenties. Derek didn't know why, but looking at their picture filled him with a sense of loss.

He stared at the picture for a while before averting his gaze and continued his walk down the luxurious hallway.

They walked for a few more minutes passing several paintings and luxurious items before coming to stop at the front of a door.

Gage led the way into the room which seemed to be more like a study, it had a huge mahogany desk in front and right behind It a leather chair into which Gage had settled.

While Derek was yet at being amazed over all he had seen, he heard Gage's voice come through.

"I know you must be confused, but believe me when I say you're our young master, I've been searching for you for years now, and I can't believe I've finally found you." Gage explained.

Derek found himself a seat with a perplexed expression.

Gage had his eyes watered, unable to control himself, he pulled out of his seat, moved towards Derek and pulled him into a tight hug.

In confusion, Derek remained numb, but his expression could tell he wanted more explanation.

Gage pulled out and returned to his seat. "Worry less, young master, you are safe. First of all, I am Gage, your family's butler."

"My family?"

"Yes," while Derek asked with a deep frown, Gage replied with all certainty, Derek's eyes widened in surprise.

"You even know my name." Derek asked with a confused mind.

"Of course, like I said before, I am your family's butler, I knew when you were born, you're the only son of Mr and Mrs Brook."

"The most wealthiest family in the city, you remain their heir and the only survivor." Gage said, adding to Derek's confusion.

"W…what do you mean? What family? What heir? What survivor?" Derek stuttered.
