Chapter 9: Shocked!

“What the fuck are you doing?” Max yelled suddenly as the secretary was about to say a word. “How dare you talk like that to our clients? And so? What if I didn’t give them an appointment? Did you call me to ask?”

“I’m so sorry sir, I just thought they were here to beg you for orders.”

Actually, Majestic group was just like a collaboration but the main company was one of the biggest companies in the city of Seattle. So, orders are always released at a specific time of the year and most people or companies would do everything to have a share in it.

“I’m really going to compensate you for this!” Max snapped angrily and looked at Adonis. “I’m so sorry sir, I assure you that this won’t happen again.”

“Well, you shouldn’t be apologising to me, you should be apologising to her,” Adonis gestured to Aubrey.

Max looked at Aubrey and smiled. “I assure you that it would never happen again because she’s either going to get suspended or sacked! I will do anything to make sure you feel comfortable.”

Aubrey was shocked. She doesn’t even know Max and they have not come across each other. So, she didn’t know why he was treating her with so much respect.

“Please, don’t sack me!” The secretary beseeched softly but the dirty stare that Max sent across to her shit her up, maybe for life.

“Please, let's discuss this in my office,” he invited and started ahead.

Aubrey released a sigh even though she was still uncomfortable. She turned towards Adonis. “Let’s go. It looks like this will turn out well.”

Adonis shook his head briefly. “Mr. Max seems to like you at first sight. I think you will be able to do this on your own.”

Aubrey nodded briefly and followed Max. Adonis's phone rang suddenly. It was Finn.

Adonis moved out to answer the call. “Hello Finn, is anything wrong?”

“I have news about David’s family already. Like we wanted them to be, they are in Seattle for the funeral. Another thing is that he’s so hooked up with the funeral that he has fewer guards at his place. Though, it feels a bit weird.” He observed.

Adonis thought for a moment. “ Find out where he lives, particularly his eldest daughter. We need to move very fast,” he informed him.

“Alright boss but Nick is around already.”

Adonis sighed. “I thought I told him to leave. Why is he here again?”

“He wouldn't leave here,” he informed him.

Adonis released an exasperated sigh. “I don’t know when I will come around because I have a lot to do here,” he explained.

“Alright boss.”

.

Max led Aubrey to the chair respectfully. “Would you care for a coffee or anything?”

Aubrey was shocked for a moment. “No, I mean let’s discuss why we are here.”

It doesn’t make sense that she would be requesting something to drink when she had a matter to settle with him.

“Do you want to purchase some of our orders?” Aubrey nodded briefly. “ Then there’s no reason to worry. You should have something to drink. Tea or coffee?”

Aubrey let out a sigh. “Tea will do just fine.”

Max walked to his table and placed a call to whoever. It didn’t take long when a soft knock sounded on the door and a girl walked inside with a cup of tea.

Aubrey just didn’t understand Alex and things were moving faster before she could process it.

After the girl had left, Aubrey still couldn’t drink the tea.

“So, how much do you think I should issue?” He asked suddenly, shocking Aubrey for another moment. She blinked again. What does Max mean by that? “I can actually start with 10 million worth of orders,” he announced suddenly.

Aubrey’s mouth went wide with shock. “Why?”

Max misread the expression on her face. “You don’t want that? Too low? I will increase it to 20 million dollars.”

Aubrey almost stopped breathing. She hasn’t expected to even easily get 10 million dollars worth of orders from Max because they weren’t familiar. In fact, Aubrey had been taking the whole discussion on her mind and hoped that Max would even decide to trust her with 5 million worth of orders. She knew that Everleigh would be happy even if it was little as long as it was from the Majestic group.

“Not good?” Max held her expression for a moment. “I will-,” he started again but Aubrey cut in immediately.

“That’s actually good, sir. I will take it,” Aubrey agreed.

Everleigh would almost run mad when she hears the news. At least, she would accept Adonis and let her be. And Aubrey would think of a perfect time to pull out of the fake relationship she was in.

Max smiled. “Ok, deal then. Can you drink the tea? Then we can finalise it?”

Aubrey nodded briefly with a smile tugging at her lips. She was too overjoyed. In fact, she couldn’t wait to inform Adonis about the news. With this thought in her head, she sipped the tea slowly.

After signing the necessary documents, Aubrey walked out of the company. Adonis was waiting by the car, with a smile plastered across his face as if encouraging her.

“You won’t believe this, Adonis? I got 20 million dollars worth of orders!” She announced to him.

Adonis feigned surprise. “Really? I knew you could do it.”

Aubrey sighed at this and entered the passenger’s seat. Adonis entered the driver’s side.

“But I didn’t do anything really, I mean it looked like we already knew each other from somewhere. Something isn’t right,” she observed.

“Well, all that matters is securing an order.”

Aubrey nodded briefly and smiled again. “Let’s go tell grandmother about the news.”

Her phone vibrated suddenly and she pulled it out from the bag and stared at the screen. “What! Kevin Laurier is dead?”

Adonis glanced at her and feigned ignorance. “Who is Kevin?”

“My other prospective husband...Grandmother wanted me to marry him before Zayn showed his interest to me.”
