Chapter Four

Sergeant Clinton and Detective Sam returned to the Mushin where their offices were. When they touched down at the police station, they headed to the DPO’s office. When they entered, a senior police officer was behind them. They didn’t notice until they entered and he walked to the sideway as they were crouching their bum on the seat opposite the table of the DPO.

“Welcome, Detective Sam and Sergeant Clinton.”

When they sat down, the DPO’s attention was seized by the presence of the police officer who stood and seemed to have a message for him.

“What’s it? I hope there is no problem.”

He saluted, “Mr Segun has been killed.”

“What? Segun too?”

The police officer nodded. They were a sudden change in the disposition of the DPO. Sam became curious. The police officer walked out immediately he passed the message if not he would have asked him what had gone wrong.

“What’s it, DPO? Who is Segun?” Clinton asked.

“We’ve lost the last spy we have in the Herbert Halloway’s Castle. The most painful part was that we haven’t gotten any concrete evidence and more than ten lives had gone with it since we began working on it.”

“Oh.” Sam and Clinton looked at each other. They seemed to have been getting the smoke of what was ahead of them. They already knew it was gonna be difficult from their first time ofquestioning Herbert Halloway.

The commissioner shook it off his head immediately and feigned to have resuscitated his psyche from the sad news he just heard. Segun wasn’t an officer with them but one of those who did give Herbert Halloway information and he was bought with a huge amount of money which were also thought to increase if he eventually succeed, unfortunately he met his demise so fast.

“So how was the place you guys went?” The DPO asked.

“It went well. The commissioner granted our request and the ladies have been lounged in an hotel. The commissioner is going to assign some fund to us for the mean time and be used to cater for everything,” Detective Sam said.

“That’s great. I am glad to hear this and I hope everything went well.”

“It will hopefully.”

Sergeant Clinton had a random thought that trotted into his psyche and thought of discussing it so it wouldn’t hinder the mission they wanted to embark on. Detective Sam was thinking of going back to the hotel where they lodged the ladies.

“Who is this Segun?” Sergeant Clinton asked.

The DPO and Sam were surprised by the sudden question. They never had the thought that it could be raised again. Sam turned to the DPO yearning for a response. When the DPO saw that the two eyes were on him, he saw the need to disclose it to them.

“Well, Segun was one of the informant to Herbert Halloway who was gotten and instead of being remanded in the prison, we gave him a lifeline to be a spy for us against Herbert Halloway. We even offered him some cash and other clauses to be activated along the course but unfortunately, he became the latest fish caught by Herbert Halloway’s nest.”

It seemed Sam was also getting interested in the questioning. He wasn’t interested at first because he thought it was just a kinda spy work and he was gotten.

“Are you sure there isn’t an informant among the police for Herbert Halloway?” Clinton asked.

“We’ve done cleansing a number of time when the thoughts came in the past and the bag eggs were remove yet, nothing changed.”

Detective Sam was lost for word. He was left to jiggling his head in amazement. He already knew it was going to be an interesting period in the course of their plan to get down Herbert Halloway. Sam saw the need to contribute to the discussion.

“I think I agree with Sergeant Clinton. There are some informant among the police giving information to Herbert Halloway,” Sam said.

“So how are we going to know them?” The DPO asked.

“They are very secretive and the fact that our intelligence in this country aren’t functioning well. I did advice that we bank on ourselves. We shouldn’t be letting every plan known to the officers especially now that we are here. We will do everything with the ladies that were recently brought into it,” Sergeant Clinton said.

“Yes. We will have to go with that. They won’t be getting any information anymore. Perhaps, we could get the officers who were behind the release of our info to the enemy. The most surprising is the fact that once a spy is gotten Herbert Halloway did get immediately, that’s a big turn off and it should have been prevented for a very long period of time.”

“Well. We’ve known now and the best solution has been preferred. Thank you very much Sergeant Clinton and Detective Sam. You’ve really been helpful since you came and your presence here it filled with assurance.”

“You are welcome, DPO. We aren’t meant for this kinda situation and we are going to deal with it seriously.”

The DPO nodded. They took permission and were about to leave for the hotel where they lodged the ladies to began working on the necessary stuff before the weekend. They hadn’t made a decision as to when to send the ladies to the hotel.

Sergeant Clinton and Detective Sam had thought of being fully involved but having questioned him and the fact that he had seen their face. It wouldn’t be ideal and it would be a big blow or the mission hence, they thought of employing more hands mainly the male officers and thought of contacting their base on the Lagos Island were they had a good numbers of followers who were passionate and would be ready to put their lives on the line in the course of the mission.

They discussed it in the car en route to the hotel but haven’t made a decision concerning it yet.
