Chapter Eleven
"You dare speak that name in my presence?!" Lee sighed almost apologetically. "Oh, I forgot you guys don't like people doing that." "Wait, y-you know what that thing is?" Elena all but stammered in both shock and fright. He gave her a weird look as if she had asked something stupid. "You don't? Man, what're they teaching you kids nowadays?" Turning back to the enraged skinwalker, he spoke in a condescending tone. "Now, I'm going to give you two choices. One: you remove all your curses and tell me what your plan here is. Or-" The skinwalker cut his words short by leaping over the entire space between them and lashing out with a clawed hand at his neck. The attack was foiled when Lee grabbed the limb inches away from his throat and smiled wickedly. "The hard way it is then. Bad choice." 'Devon' struck again with his other hand which was promptly restrained by Lee. Then in a movement Elena could barely follow, the Hunter swept the skinwalker's feet off the gr

The crack sound Elena had heard when her date hit the ground with enough force to snap a human's spine, had been both sickening and fulfilling at once. But when Lee leapt back to avoid a blow from the downed man, she realized he was not out for the count yet. She watched him stagger to his feet shakily. Although the move had not killed him, it must have hurt far more than he seemed comfortable with. The hatred and fury in his stare sent a wave of immense terror through Elena. The sudden fear was so crippling that she slid to the floor panting and clutching her chest as she struggled to breath properly. With great effort, she raised her head to see how Lee was faring as he was the main target of this new unknown attack. To her astonishment, the Hunter stood utterly unfazed by whatever it was the skinwalker had done. She herself was just in the area of effect of the technique and it already affected her this badly. But the focus of the attack was just standing there completely f

It hovered over her, faint growls echoing from within its throat and sending shivers down Elena's back. Her heart threatened to beat a hole out of her chest and she suddenly had trouble breathing when the creature's breath washed over her. It stank of blood and death. When a drop of blood rolled down its jaw and landed on her face, she nearly lost it right there and then. Then it suddenly raised its head and howled. Elena felt like she was about to have a heart attack. Was it calling the others? Were they going to eat her together? She saw its mouth open and instinctively shut her eyes in dread. Then she felt it bite down on the collar of her shirt and hauled her forward like she weighed nothing. A weird sensation passed over her as she felt her surroundings change in an instant. When she opened her eyes, the rest of the Hunters were all looking down at her with strange looks on their faces. Before she could form a coherent thought, she felt hot air at the back of her neck.

"Try not to move around too much," he instructed and focused magic on his hand. A light ash-hued aura surrounded it before traveling rapidly up Elena's arm and through her body. She jolted out of his grasp in surprise and watched as the aura faded away from her form. Suddenly she felt a severe sensation of emptiness that had her swaying until Whitney caught her. The white haired girl glowered at Michael as she held Elena close. "What did you do?" she all but hissed. Michael did not bother to look at her when he moved back to his seat. "I erased all the magic in her body. The curse had attached itself to her magic. When I removed the magic, the curse went with it as well. Get her to a bed so she'll rest. Her powers will return overtime." "I fail to see my place in all of this," Veronica spoke up from her seat. "The skinwalkers are not exactly big fans of vampires," Vincent said to her. "They abhor your kind. Your existence is an annoyance to them so you'll have to wa

Veronica had always loved the night. The fact that she was a vampire may have had something to do with it. But there were other reasons too. The biggest one for her, was the freedom that came with the darkness of the sky. At night, the whole world became free. There was nothing to hide in the darkness. There was no need to hide anything. The night accepted all. No wonder most humans choose that time to engage in whatever dastardly habit they possessed. There was no one to judge them. No one to control them. The thought brought the night's events back to the front of her mind and her anger surged up again. The Hunters had always fascinated her since her childhood. She had spent a good deal of her time in her family's library reading up every piece of information there was about them. The fact that there was so little available always aggravated her to no end. Most of what was written about them were their exploits. Thus when she had gotten the chance to meet them and study them u

'These guys hit harder than they look!' Veronica grimaced as she blocked with her forearms a punch that sent her skidding backwards. The change in her position had left her weakened bodyguards unprotected and one of the skinwalkers moved to capitalize on the opportunity. His hand was still raised in the air when suddenly it flew away from the rest of his arm. Veronica blurred in front of him and launched him back with a kick to its abdomen. Her hands and feet were covered in a swirling layer of thick red liquid that moved continuously as if alive. It was not only for their speed and strength that vampires were so well respected in the supernatural world. They were the only race that was able to use a type of magic that was said to possess the most versatility and latent potential of all magics. Blood Magic was what had allowed the undead creatures to rise to the upper echelons of their world. The ability to manipulate one's own blood in any manner, Blood Magic could be used to

Fifteen minutes later, Dan sat at the table with his guest. Michael had a cup of tea in front of him from which he took small sips until the other man finished his meal. After cleaning up, Dan returned to the table and stared at Michael pointedly. "So what does the leader of the Hunters want with me?" Michael cleared his throat and leaned forward on the table. His eyes returned to their default coldness as he explained the details of the peace exercise to Dan. "So you have to look after some children? That's hardly a reason to seek me out." "Watching them shouldn't be a problem," Michael said and his features hardened. "But it becomes one when skinwalkers are involved." The other man's eyes darkened immediately and he frowned. "That's not right. Where did you say this school was?" "Starlight Bay. It's a city on the coastline between Providence and Boston." "That's not too far from New York. Skinwalkers are not supposed to be found in this area." "Yeah, I t

They stepped through the portal and appeared on the rooftop of a building in the nonacademic section of the school. Even at their height, they could hear the sound of music from the clubs in the neighborhood. Mia stumbled a bit when she exited the portal and Whitney moved to hold her up until she regained her steadiness. The gateway vanished behind them and Jade began to focus on detecting the presence Dean had felt earlier. A surge of negativity reached her senses and she moved to the edge of the building and looked down. What she saw made her grin sadistically. "Well, well, well, if it isn't the vampire princess in trouble, who else would it be?" Veronica bit back a cry of pain as she felt a blow crash against her spine that threatened to send her flying. Gritting her teeth, she weathered the punch and returned it with her own. The attacking werecoyote staggered back only for another to leap over it and backhand her across the space in the alley. Deftly turning her fall int

Whitney was having the time of her life right now, although she would never admit to it. She had been drawing out her fight with the skinwalker, her intention being to gain information on its commonly used skills. But after a while, it had proven to be quite resilient to her attacks. Normally this would have been frustrating but she was simply glad to have an opponent on which she could test out her arsenal of techniques. At least one she would not have to worry about burning to a crisp after a few seconds. The training dummies back at her coven were not nearly as fireproof as this guy was. The beast attacked with its claws again in a move Whitney had seen several times that night and thus was able to telegraph the sequence perfectly. She went underneath the paw and danced around the beast until it turned to chomp down on her head. Its open maw filled with razor sharp teeth was promptly stuffed with orange flames that stung it badly enough for it to rear back in pain. She wasted

The large humanoid beast sailed over the heads of the three girls until it crashed down on the ground. Quickly it got to its feet just in time before Jade could stomp on its head. Veronica blinked twice before it struck her that the female Hunter had literally removed the space between herself and the werepanther to teleport to its location so quickly. She took a moment to fully comprehend the meaning of Jade's earlier words. Meanwhile Jade and the werepanther had begun exchanging attacks with the latter yet to land a single hit on Jade. Whenever it looked like it was about to hit her, she would create space to distance herself from it. Then before the beast would be able to recover she would be right beside it again with an attack of her own. There was something to be said for her strength with how easy it was for her to knock around a beast that looked twice her weight. And yet even with all these, the girls and the skinwalker could not help but share a single thought. '
