Chapter Ten: Failure
They reached the Hunters/witches dorm building after several minutes of trekking across the campus. Most of the courses that the Parapsychology students studied were held in some of the academy's amphitheater-like buildings, all of which were located a fair distance from the dorm areas. The walk was annoying for most students especially when they were in a hurry, but at least it served as a good cardio workout for those who couldn't be bothered to visit a gym. When the two young adults reached the shared common room of the top floor, they were met with the sight of Jade kneeling on the floor at one edge of the room. Most of the furniture and other stuff had been moved to make space for the massive magic circle that had been drawn on the wooden floor with what looked like chalk. The drawer herself was moving around the circle carefully to avoid erasing any portion, while using the chalk-like item in her hand to draw numerous runic symbols within the circle. "Certainly took your

Chapter Eleven: Unwelcome Visitors
"This is not good." "Yeah no kidding." "Oh shut up Lee. This is serious." All five Hunters had gathered in Michael's room. As both their leader and an alpha, it was only right that his living space was the biggest among the team. With Dean lying on the large bed and Olivia sitting beside him, there was still more than enough room for Lee to lean against the door and Jade who was sitting at the study desk. The owner of the room himself was standing, his eyes fixed in a pensive stare as he watched Olivia glide her hands which glowed green with her magic over Dean's body. No one had asked her to do that since there hadn't been any visible wound on the other Hunter's body earlier but her love and worry for her teammate had driven her to his side from the moment she had stepped into the room. Nevertheless, no one made a move to stop her. Because, more than they were a team, the Hunters were a family who relied and cared for each other. And family always took care of family. "Wh

Chapter Twelve: Awakening
The order came like a death sentence, which it essentially was. The startled captain actually stepped back subconsciously at the absoluteness of that statement, as did a good majority of his soldiers. Hugo watched with a growing sense of apprehension as a dark grin spread across the face of the dark haired girl, presumably the one called Jade, as she moved to stand in front of the sandy haired young man. "You guys might want to back up a bit," she warned playfully. It took Hugo a few seconds to realize that she was not talking to them but to her own colleagues and less than one second to understand why. The moment the girl took a step forward, it felt like the air itself had become heavier. An indescribable pressure descended on the entire squad of guards, rooting them to the very spot they stood. It was when Hugo felt the ground beneath him begin to rumble and shake that he knew that this would not be an easy opponent. The unknown girl must have been an highly skilled mage with

Chapter Thirteen: Trump Card
His boots carved trenches through the earth as he slid to a stop almost a dozen meters away. Jade smirked at the man's hardened expression. That last attack had carried a fair bit more power than she had been using so far. From where he stood, Hugo sent multiple energy slashes from his sword which she tore apart with her bare hands. However just as she had done that, twelve large white magic circles appeared around her, enclosing her within a circle. Each circle was maintained by two ACDC mages with one forming the framework and the other supplying the energy. "And what is this supposed to do?" Jade asked in her perpetually condescending tone. "Mock while you can, invader," Hugo declared in a booming voice that roused up morale among his men. "You have been a most worthy adversary. Your strength and skill cannot be underestimated. But this is where it ends." He threw his sword high into the air and manipulated it telekinetically to remain suspended in the air directly above J

Chapter Fourteen: The First Game
The night sky was only slightly cloudy, allowing the full moon and the bright stars to light up the inky black canvas above. With such pleasant weather conditions, it was no surprise that the first game of the season had been scheduled to hold tonight. By the twentieth hour of the day, Starlight Central Academy was just about ready to commence its first match against Providence University. The stands were packed with students from both colleges cheering and chanting their respective school mottos. There were of course several minor alterations between a few hotheads but those were quickly settled by selected security supervisors. There was still about a quarter of an hour until the match was to begin so the cheer squads of each team took to the fields to raise school spirits. Inside the main locker room for the home team, the coach of the Starlight Comets drilled the summarizations of the strategies and plays practiced over the past weeks into the heads of the burly boys in blue a

Chapter Fifteen: Friendly Relations
A loud cheer erupted from the stands outside as the referee called a touchdown for the home team, their third in a row. The school cheer squad broke out into a dance to celebrate their team's lead. But that mattered little to two girls up in an empty classroom at the top floor of the Astronomy Department. "Are you sure you're okay?" Veronica asked for the umpteenth time. Mia rolled her eyes and smiled at the vampire. "Like I've said the past god-knows-how many times, I'm fine. Besides when did you start caring so much?" "I don't," she replied sharply before glaring in the direction of the ongoing game. "But I'll take any chance I can get to rip that bastard apart." Ever since she had found Mia in that empty hallway frozen like a statue, Veronica had hounded the girl ceaselessly for the details of her conversation with the platinum blonde Hunter. But the witch had been unusually cagey about the whole thing, often brushing off the questions by teasing Veronica about her 'worr

Chapter Sixteen: The Rougarou
"Besides," the girl rattled on as they walked side by side down the long hallway that led to the stairs. "Whitney and Elena are gonna be watching the game as well. Well, Elena's the only one who would actually be interested but she would drag Whitney along with her. Whitney doesn't really like those kind of things. She thinks they're a waste of time." "Smart girl," Veronica commented, her nose twitching slightly. Mia huffed indignantly although it was soon followed by a wry smile. "I told Whitney that you two were a lot more alike than I expected. Try as you might to deny it but it's as obvious as—" "Shh," Veronica shushed the other girl sharply, her facial expression doing a complete one-eighty from relaxed and bored with a hint of cynicism to fully alert and alarmed in an instant. "What? What is it?" Mia asked, whipping her head back and forth confusedly. "Be quiet!" Veronica hissed and turned towards the right wall of the hallway along which the classrooms were locate

Chapter Seventeen: Battle For Survival
"Catenae Gehennae!" Mia incanted as soon as her feet touched the ground. In response to her call, flaming chains of magic burst out of the circle above and interwove themselves around the beast. It struggled to free itself and howled loudly as the flames sizzled its skin. Taking advantage of its distraction, Veronica aimed a direct kick to its solar plexus that had it gasping for breath. Then she lifted the hand pinning her down with pure strength and stabbed forward with all her might, intending to blind the creature at least. The sharpened tips of her sabers found their targets and the Rougarou howled in pain once again. In its agony, it flailed around furiously and caught Veronica in one of its backhand swings. It sent her tumbling back but she was quickly able to right herself by stabbing her swords into the ground. "Hey Mia," Veronica called out, licking away the blood that had spilt out of her lips. "Can you burn that thing in one shot?" "I can try," the other girl a

Chapter Nineteen: The Hunter of Blood
Present Day, Starlight Central Academy's Astronomy Department, The swirling blood rose to form a pair of single edged swords that Lee grabbed with both hands and swung them in circles. He leveled a dark smirk at the Rougarou who took a small step back at the sheer amount of blood lust oozing from the white haired man. "Here I come," he warned, raised his foot to take a step, and disappeared. The Rougarou immediately spun in time to block the crimson blade that sought to remove his head. Still in midair, Lee rotated his body to land a skull rattling kick on the side of its head that destabilized the large beast that was over twice his body weight. The second blade sliced down in a movement faster that the monster could block and carved a deep gash along its flank. With a pained growl, the Rougarou attempted to smack the Hunter out of the air. But like an agile feline, the white haired Asian contorted his body to roll over the monster's arms and landed behind it. His hands c
